Obituary: Age 87, passed away 1, 2017 in Jackson, Michigan after battling a long illness. Irene was born on 11, 1929 in Ironwood, Michigan to Walter and Auni Wiemeri. Irene is predeceased by husband Melvin Martin, daughter Sharon and son Thomas. She is survived by her children Christine Adomitis, Kenneth, Jerome, Janice, Brian, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Irene and Mel raised their family of seven in Pontiac, Michigan and moved to Traverse City, MI in 1992 after retirement. Irene worked in the Pontiac Public School system to retirement. She stayed active in Traverse City with her hobbies of gardening and baking, making sure the neighborhood children, that frequently visited, had home baked cookies. She was a member of the Traverse City Figure Skating Club, and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. There wasn a sport or event she didn love if her children were involved. She was the definition of a soccer mom never missing events and always offering praise and encouragement. Irene was an avid MSU football, basketball and Detroit Tigers fan, rarely missing televised games and made the most of attending Tigers games with her family. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 630 W. Silver Lake South, in Traverse City, , 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to celebrate Irenes life to follow. Interment will be a family gathering at Oakwood Catholic in Traverse City immediately after the luncheon. The Martin Family wishes to extend thanks to the University of Michigan Geriatrics , and the staff of Great Lakes Caring Hospice and RidgeCrest Campus for Irenes care during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Alzheimers Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter at www.alz.org/mglc. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. |

Obituary: Another volume of life's work has ended and its author called home. Howard K. Martin passed away at home of a heart attack on 24, 2015 at the age of 88. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Anne (Bullinger), children Bill (Theresa) of Jackson and Jim (Jennifer) of North Prairie, WI. Also survived by grandchildren Kelly, Rachel, Sam, Lucy, Alex, Abby, Katelyn, Blake and Connor. He was preceded in death by his sister Charlotte (Dale) Newhouse and granddaughter Emily Elizabeth. Howard was born on 18, 1927. He attended Jackson High School and the University of New Mexico. He was an engineer employed by Commonwealth Associates and most recently his family business of 29 years, Spirit Steel Co. He loved his grandchildren very much and enjoyed watching them compete in athletic activities, especially golf and basketball. His passion for dogs is well known and the thousands of miles covered with them would be an impressive distance for sure. Construction, politics, sports, stocks and even a nice math problem were all familiar grounds for a good challenge. A visitation and memorial service will be held the funeral home on 28, 2015, visitation from 10-11, with a service following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the Cascades Humane Society. |
