Obituary: MANGES, Shirley Y., Gram, who spoiled us rotten Age 81, passed away 13, 2010 at Kith Haven in Flint. Shirley was born 29, 1929 in Flint to Donald and Ida Wetherell. She attended Central High School and married her high school sweetheart, Stewart Manges in 1947. This was several years after meeting on the ice skating rink in Ballenger Park, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Shirley was the Director of the Girls Glee Club at Central High and her love of music continued her entire life. She was a soprano in the choir at Calvary Methodist Church, West Suburban Bible Church and Faith Baptist Church. She sang and played piano at parties and family gatherings, always having fun. Shirley traveled extensively. She and Stewart saw Hawaii, most of Europe, Canada and almost all the contiguous U.S., including the Rocky Mountains on the back of a Harley Davidson. Shirley enjoyed summers on Bois Blanc Island. She loved feeding the wildlife on the island and at her home in Flint. Gram is most guilty of spoiling her two grandchildren. Her influence on us is heavy and she emphasized good taste, cleanliness, proper etiquette and the fun of music. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart, in 2006 and son, Larry, in 1998. She is survived by her two grandchildren, David (Sherry) Manges and Elizabeth Ray as well as four grandsons, James Ray, Stewart Manges, Alexander Ray and David Manges. The family would like to thank the staff at Kith Haven for their efforts in caring for Gram during her long struggle with Alzheimers as well as all the good friends who visited her. Friends may visit the family from 2 to 8 p.m. at Reigle . The funeral service will be 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Brad Button officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills . under the direction of Reigle /Sunset Chapel, Flushing, MI. |
