Obituary: Ronald P. Martin, 83 of Wakefield, died on , 12th at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. Born in Everett on 1, 1933, he was the son of the late Albert S. and Margaret M. (Marsh) Martin. Mr. Martin was raised in Everett and was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1951. He went on to Boston University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical Engineering; and later a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Martin had worked in aeronautical, mechanical, and civil engineering before retiring from MA Highway Department as a Bridge Engineer. He raised his family in Wakefield and cherished summer vacations with his grandchildren. He was a train enthusiast and loved the opera. Mr. Martin was the Chapel organist and choir member at the First Parish Congregational Church in Wakefield for many years. He was the beloved husband of Sylvia J. (Verville) Martin. He was the loving father of Stephen Martin and his wife Laurie of Westford, Jackie Martin of Albuquerque, NM, Laura Amrein and her husband Joseph of Nashua, NH and David Martin of Arlington. He was the grandfather of David Martin, Julie Martin, Anna Martin, Sarah Amrein, Nick Martin, Katherine Amrein and Matthew Zank. He was the brother-in-law of Claire Dempsey and her husband James of Scarborough, ME. Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald , 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on from 4-8 p.m. service will take place at the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St., Wakefield on at 10:30 AM. Obituary: ROCKPORT: It is with great grief and sadness that we let our community know that Roger Hemenway Martin, Jr., 89, passed away suddenly on , 14, 2015 from complications of a brain hemorrhage and subsequent fall. Roger was born in the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, the son of Capt. Roger Martin and Ellie Emilia Oker, in 1925. His father was born in Rockport, of Portuguese/Azorean heritage, and his mother was born in Ekenas Finland. He graduated from Rockport High School in 1942. While in high school Roger prepared lobsters for tourists at the Roy Moore Lobster on Bearskin Neck and sang and played harmonica with Tony Torissis hillbilly band. Roger enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942 and mustered out in 1946, ending his military career as a member of the USCG canine corps. having briefly lived on both coasts (Manhattan and Los Angeles) he returned to his home town from the West Coast, vowing to never leave again, and he hasn . When he returned to Cape Ann he entered the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where he majored in book design and illustration, graduating with honors. He illustrated a number of textbooks for D.C. Heath, Beacon Press, and other Boston publishers, as well as provided illustrations for the New York Times, the New Yorker magazine, the Atlantic Monthly magazine, and a book for the United Church of Christ. Roger also designed, carved and gold-leafed pipe shades for a number of C. B. Fisk pipe organs, builders of tracker action pipe organs, including those at Harvard and Stanford Universities. He began his teaching career in Rockport, teaching elementary grade art, following that with four years teaching at the New England School of Art in Boston. Roger became a founding faculty member of the HYPERLINK http://www.montserrat.edu/ Montserrat of Art in Beverly, where he taught for 20 years, retiring to make paintings. Roger married Joan Fertig in 1954, and they had three children; Christopher, Rachel, and Mari. Joan died in 1989, and Rachel passed on in 2002. He married Ann OGrady in 1990. Christopher and his wife, Elizabeth had four children, Joseph, Gayla, Jessica, and Ronnie. One of whom (Joseph and his wife Ari) presented him with his first, second and third great-granddaughters. Rachel had two children, Leah and Gregory. Ann died in 2009 and his daughter, Mari moved in with him from Santa Barbara, Calif. in 2010. In his later years, he was fortunate to become closer to his cousins, Faith Oker and Al Mallette, of Gloucester. Roger had served the Town of Rockport in a number of capacities. He was a deputy forest-fire warden, firefighter in the Speedwell Engine #2 in Pigeon Cove, retiring as Captain, and was elected to the Planning Board and appointed to the Board of Appeals. He was also elected Rockports Poet Laureate in the 1990s and in addition wrote and published three books about Rockport. In recent years, he managed to keep his brushes in use as he had made a series of works that reflect the Rockport where he grew up: a small town that fished the sea and mined granite from the quarries still to be seen throughout the wooded areas. One can still find quarried blocks of granite dotting the woods in the Pigeon Cove section of town; many of them containing chisel marks put in by hand in the quarrying process, long before the advent of power tools. Rockporters call these leftover granite piles grout. Many of Martins works feature interpretations of these marks in his mostly abstract works. This and the great Atlantic Ocean are some of his greatest inspirations. Roger Martin has exhibited his work throughout New England and beyond. He has shown his work in Portland, Maine; New York City; Andovers Addison Gallery; the Boston ICA; galleries on Newbury Street in Boston; the Rockport Art Association; and the Cape Ann Historical Museum (where he is part of the permanent collection); and many others. His work is represented in many private collections, including those of John Updike, Bernard and Ninon Chaet, and Ralph Coburn. Roger currently has an exhibit at the Cape Ann Museum, showing now through 28, featuring works that span his entire career along with selections of his poetry. Roger will be greatly missed by many, none more so than his family. He was truly larger-than-life and we are devastated by his passing. A Memorial Service will be held on , 28, at 1 p.m. at the Congregational Church, 12 School Street in Rockport. Obituary: EASTON---Robert L. Bob Martin, 85, a resident of Easton for the past 25 years, passed away on 14, 2021 unexpectedly. Born in Brockton, a son of Oscar and Eva (Beland) of Brockton, he was raised in Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton Business School. A veteran of the US Air Force, he served as A/2c where he met his future wife Yvonne (Denet) Martin in France and came back to Brockton where they had 4 boys. He started Martin Last Remodeling, and shoe and clog businesses in Brockton before moving to California for 20 years to continue his career in research and development at Vans sneaker company. He then moved back to Easton to care for his aging parents, He enjoyed woodworking and making his wishing wells. He loved a good cup of coffee and smooth talking the ladies. Robert is survived by his children, Jeffrey Martin and his wife Paula (Spadea) of Brockton, Philip Martin and his wife Evelyn Nye of Avon, Gerald Martin and his wife Lisa of Lincolnton, NC., and Robert Martin Jr. of Brockton; his siblings, Marie Pentleton of Brockton, Louise Raynard of Avon and Doris Sacco of CT., two grandchildren, Nicole Martin of Taunton and Thimothee Martin of Brockton; and one great grandchild, Gianna. He was also the brother of the late Edward Martin and Joseph Martin. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on at 9:30 a.m. from Kane & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street, Easton, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. in the Pearl Street United Methodist Church, 415 Pearl Street, Brockton. Interment with military honors will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Obituary: Robert James Martin Jr., of Plymouth, 67, passed suddenly on 15th at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. Survived by his beloved wife Margaret (Pincelli) of Plymouth, his mother Pearl (Kaiser) Martin of Plymouth and his children Robert James Martin III of East Sandwich and Sherry McLoud of Plymouth. He also leaves his sisters Sharon Boudreau of Corning, NY and Maureen Borghesani of Plymouth, his 4 grandchildren Christopher, Courtney and Sean McLoud and Nicole Martin and his beloved dogs, Sky and Schooner. Mr. Martin graduated from Plymouth High School and worked for Com Electric as a utility worker for over 30 years. He also served in the U.S Coast Guard Reserves for 6 years. Robert enjoyed to go lobstering, clamming and fishing and spending his summers in Saquish with his family. A funeral service will be held on 19th at the Richard Davis , 373 Court St (Rt. 3A), N.
