Obituary: Sally Blanchard Maynard (1929-2015) Cumberland Foreside - Sally Blanchard Maynard (86) died peacefully on , 9 at her home where she lived for the last 56 years. She was born in Winchester, Massachusetts on Sept 2, 1929, one of five children of Dean and Esther Parshley Blanchard. Sally graduated from Winchester High School in 1947 and married the late Robert L. (Bob) Maynard on 16, 1951. Sally attended Colby in Waterville, Maine for two years and Tufts Universitys Eliot-Pearson Childrens School in Boston graduating in 1951. Sally and Bob moved from Massachusetts to South Freeport, Maine for a short time and then to Washington Avenue in Portland where they lived when Sara Louise was born. Soon after, they moved to Middle Road in Cumberland where they lived when Todd Warren was born. Then in 1959 the family moved to the Foreside where they lived when William Dean Blanchard was born and where all of the kids were raised. Summering in Maine at her great-grandfathers homestead on the shore of Broad Cove in Cumberland began the long love she had for swimming, nature and the sea. Sally truly loved being at home supported by family and the comfort of her surroundings. Her wish was to live out her life near the ocean she so dearly loved, and she did. She also loved children and taught nursery school for a short time in Lexington, Massachusetts after graduating from Tufts. Later on she was a teachers aide at the Mabel I. Wilson School on Tuttle Road in Cumberland. In her mind, no child could ever do anything wrong. Surely, there was a good reason for whatever mishap took place! Continuing in her lifelong passion for learning, Sally decided to pursue a career as a dental hygienist, attending Westbrook in Portland and graduating in 1979. She worked for many years for Dr.s Russell and Regan in the Woodfords area of Portland, and continued in the field until 2011, reluctantly retiring at the young age of 82. Another passion of Sallys was woodworking. During her lifetime she restored and refinished many tables, bureaus and chairs that decorated her home. She painstakingly worked the wood, applied the finishes and smoothed the final coat to perfection. One must only touch the piece to know someone loved it deeply. In the last few years of her life she rekindled her love of woodworking by volunteering at the Maine Maritime Museum wood shop in Bath on s. She was there the day before she died and very much enjoyed her time with the other volunteers. At 84 her lifetime enjoyment of birds resolved her to build a bird feeder at the shop exactly like the one her Dad made at about the same time in his life. Truly remarkable. She also loved to cook traditional New England meals and bake pies and cookies. She was an excellent cook and did not spare the butter! Recently she was asked, Sally, how do you make such good pie crust? She said you have to make at least 100 pies before you begin to get it right, and even then its no guarantee. Sally also loved to stop and visit antique shops, yard sales and any place a gem might be found. For 40 years she and two of her oldest friends, Betty and Bob Wheaton, had a barn sale on or about Columbus Day weekend where they bantered and dickered with customers old and new. Rarely was a profit opportunity missed! Sally also loved to travel around Maine with her partners in crime, aka The Travel Club, as well as an annual drive (she always at the wheel of the Suburban) up the coast with Anna Chandler, Barbara Garsoe, Betty Wheaton, Margelia Potter and Floss Butterworth. would stay at various B&Bs along the way, having a wonderful time together. Apologies to anyone who may have been stuck traveling behind them. Among her favorite places after home were Matinicus and Peaks Islands; Goodwill or Salvation Army; church bean suppers; Cindys Fish N Chips; and the White Elephant room at any local church fair. She is survived by her sisters Esther and Carolyn, and twin brother Dean; daughter Sara and grandchildren Abigail, Ryan and Robert; son Todd and his wife Deborah, and grandchildren Clarissa, Rachel, Robert, Joshua, Esther and Daniel; son Bill and his wife Wendi, and grandchildren Dean and Nicholas; and great-grandchildren Carter, Logan, Vienna, and Jonah; many others - nieces, nephews, and extended family. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. A memorial service is planned for , 29, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Falmouth Congregational Church, 267 Falmouth Road, Falmouth. Obituary: Roy J. Maynard, 85, passed away on , 15, 2015. He was born on 11, 1929 in Nolan, WVa, son to the late Christopher Columbus and Edith (Thompson) Maynard. Roy grew up in West Virginia and work in the coal mines for 3 years before moving to Ohio. Roy served his country as a U.S. Marine Corp Corporal during the Korean War. He then worked for U.S. Steel in McDonald as an overhead crane operator for 27 years before retiring in 1980. On 17, 1956, Roy married the love of his life, the former Phyllis Stanley. Roy was a member of the Niles First Church of the Nazarene. He was also a member of the Girard American Legion Post 235 and a former member of the Odd Fellows. He will be remembered for the joy he found in fishing and tinkering on cars, as well as the time he spent rollerskating with his wife. Left to mourn Roys passing is his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Maynard; his children, Margaret Kay (Ivor) Undertajlo, David Maynard, and JoAnn (Chris) Bolduc; his grandchildren, Andrew (Katie) Maynard and Vivianne Maynard; and his great-grandson, Alan Michael Maynard. In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his son, Charles Maynard, and his brother, Charles Ray Maynard who died in infancy. The family will receive friends from 10AM-11AM on , 22, 2015 at the Niles First Church of the Nazarene, 1822 Niles-Vienna Ave., where services will follow at 11AM.
