Obituary: Beatrice Place Marden of York, Maine, formerly of Fairfield, Connecticut, died peacefully on , 9, 2015 at her home. She was born on Feb. 2, 1922 in Bridgeport, CT to Marion Grace McKeon and Frank Joseph Place. graduating from Warren Harding High School, Bea worked as a secretary before joining the US Marine Corps Womens Reserve. She spent most of her two years of active duty supporting pilot training on the Link Trainer flight simulator. Following the war, Bea attended the University of Bridgeport, earning degrees in mathematics and education. She met and married William Walker Marden Jr. in 1948, and they made their home in Fairfield, CT, where they raised six children. In 2004, Bea and Bill moved full-time to their summer home in York Maine. were married for 58 years until his death in 2006. Bea was a math teacher in the Fairfield Public School system before earning a masters degree in library science in 1973 from Southern Connecticut State University. She then worked as a school librarian until her retirement in 1981. Following her retirement, Bea was involved in a number of volunteer activities. In Connecticut, she served for 15 years as a registrar for the Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross, earning the Volunteer of the Year Award for the Fairfield Chapter in 1991. Bea worked for the Connecticut Braille Association, typing textbooks so that they could be converted to braille for visually impaired students. She made quilts for Project Linus, an organization that donates handmade quilts to comfort seriously ill children. Following her move to York, she volunteered at the York Public Library. During the past 9 years, she was a regular volunteer at York Hospital, her favorite volunteer experience of all. She was an active supporter of the Maine Alzheimers Association, participating in the Memory Walk for many years and attending support groups. She was an avid reader throughout her life and loved word puzzles of all kinds. Bea was pre-deceased by her husband and a son, Jonathan Place Marden. She is survived by her children Delphine Marden Reich and her husband William F. Reich of Alachua, FL; William Walker Marden III and his wife Anne A. Tarbell of New York City; Elizabeth Marden Marshall and her husband Matthew Marshall of Etna, NH; Sally Marden Natale of Tucson, AZ; and Stacey Katherine Marden and her husband Steven E. Cook of Sudbury, MA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Beas family is grateful for her many friends in York who have made her feel so welcome in the community and to the wonderful caregivers from York Hospital Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in Beas memory can be made to York (Maine) Hospital Hospice or the York (Maine) Public Library. Obituary: Myer M. Marcus, noted Portland wit, raconteur, golfer, and man about town, died at Portlands Cedars on 2, 2015. He was 100 years old. Myer was born on the kitchen table in a Munjoy Hill coldwater flat in 1914. The oldest child and first son of Saul and Bertha Marcus, Myer excelled in the classroom and in every endeavor. A graduate of Portland High School, he continued his education at the University of Virginia, Bowdoin , and Boston University where he received his law degree. He set up his law practice at 97A Exchange Street with his brother Harry, where he continued to practice law until his retirement at age 92. At that time, he was the oldest practicing attorney in Maine. Myer served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of major. He served in India and in several other countries where he always managed to find a golf course. Myer represented many Maine and New England individuals and businesses, but always found time for pro bono work. He was the kind of lawyer who befriended his clients, often visiting them in their homes and places of business. A gregarious man, he traveled in every social circle, and was a friend to people from all corners of life. Even as he aged, he loved to walk the streets of Portland and the Old Port, greeting everyone he encountered. Everyone loved and respected him for his wisdom, candor, advice, and knowledge. Myer was predeceased by his wife, Frances Tabor Marcus, his brother and law partner Harry Marcus, and his sister Ann Stillman. He is survived by two sons, Donald Ward (Ellen) and Paul Marcus (Janine), and a daughter Joan Marcus (Jeff Kalajian), all of Massachusetts. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Michael Ward (Laura), Dean and Melany Kalajian, and Ian and Lindsay Marcus, and several nieces and nephews. services will be held at Temple Beth El at noon on , with burial to follow at the Temple Beth El Memorial Park. the internment, family and friends are invited to lunch at The Atrium at Cedars on Ocean Avenue. Obituary: LEWISTON: Lucien P. Lou Marcoux, of Lewiston departed for his last voyage on 9, 2015. He was born in Lewiston on 17, 1927 a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Marcoux, Sr. He attended local schools and was a graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School, class of 46. Lou was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. On 31, 1948 he married his school days sweetheart Jeannette Levesque. Lou was a lifetime master machinist toolmaker and worked for a number of companies retiring in 1986 from Philips Elmet as the machine shop supervisor. His hobby was cooking and he was the regular volunteer substitute cook at Farwell Elementary School for over twenty years. He liked to entertain people at his house by cooking different dishes and pies. At Christmas time he would make dozens of meat pies and give them to his family from Maine to Massachusetts as well as friends and neighbors. Lou grew up in the Holy Family Church community and most recently attended East Auburn Baptist Church. He was also a member of the St. Doms Alumni class of 1946, a life member of VFW Post 9459 and a member of American Legion Post 158 in Lisbon. He was the past Commander of Legion Post 31 in Auburn, Marine Corps League 619, and Patrol Craft Sailors USA Chapter Legion 40/8, Destroyer Escort (DESA) Northeast Chapter. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus council 106, Robin Dow Seniors and First Auburn Seniors. Lou is survived by his son, Larry, a sister Stella of Falmouth, and his very special family Julie Gomez and Steve Elwell. He also leaves behind his granddaughters Bobbie Marcoux and Sarah Elwell along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jeannette in 1986, his son Bob, his brother Pete and his sister Adrienne.
