Obituary: Margaret Heyman May, 63, passed away peacefully from cancer on , 12, 2016 at her home in Baton Rouge. A native of Toledo, OH, she was a graduate of Bowsher High School, University of Toledo, as well as LSU. She was a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church. Margaret was a devoted member of her community, leading with her 30+ years of service as a teacher in the Livingston Parish Schools. She also was a volunteer of the American Red Cross, and marshal at BREC Web Park City Golf Course, a former President and Queen of the Krewe of Denham Springs. She was also an avid motorcyclist and loved traveling, camping and cooking. Most of all, she was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend with an enthusiasm for life that was infectious. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her. Visitation will be at Seale , Denham Springs, on , 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will resume , 18, from 9:30 a.m. until memorial service at 10:30 a.m. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, P. Dodd May; son, Powell May; brother, John (Chris) Heyman; sister, Jane (Donna) Braun; mother-in-law, Olga May; sister-in-law, Marla May; as well as many other relatives, past students and friends. She finished High School at South Choctaw High School in Silas, Alabama and graduated from Draughon’s Business in Jackson, Mississippi. graduation she worked as Probate Clerk in Butler, Alabama. She married Edwin May and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was stationed in the Navy. lived there for three years during World War II.While in Corpus Christi, Margaret worked for the Naval Air Station, the largest in the world at that time. the war, they moved back to Jackson and she devoted her time to her family, her church, and her community. Margaret volunteered at the elementary school, served as a Boy Scout Leader, President of WMU at Calvary Baptist Church, President of the District WMU, lead a conference on prayer for many years at Camp Garaway, and taught a School class for 55 years, at Calvary and Broadmoor Baptist Church. She was also a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. Margaret was a member of the Luncheon Club, Twin Pines Garden Club, Auxiliary to the Registered Engineer’s Club, and served as president of all three. For many years she was a member of Dr. Byron Barksdale’s Monitored Cardiac Class.She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed May; her parents; siblings, Sybil Jordan and Alton Jordan. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Oglesby and husband, Walter of Sulphur, Louisiana; and son, Lamar May and wife, Cathey of Cropwell, Alabama. She is also survived by grandchildren, Stephanie Mikesell and husband Paul, Lane Oglesby, Lynn Luster and husband Mike, and David May and wife, Lisa. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. & Mabel Simmons, her husband Lee May, one daughter, one son, one granddaughter, one sister, two brothers, and a special brother-in-law Bill Dykes. Obituary: Lela Mae May, age 87 Oak Grove, Louisiana Cox Oak Grove, Louisiana A memorial service will be held 12PM, , 7, 2015 at Cox with Brother Mike Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 10AM until time of service at Cox . Family has requested a private interment following the service. Mrs. Lela May, a life-long Oak Grove resident, joyfully entered the Gates of Heaven on 8, 2015. Born on 6, 1927, Lela was 87 years old. She died peacefully of natural causes in the Marymount near St. Louis, Mo., where she has lived the last year near her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Stu Pugh. Lela and her family had a year of laughter and love, spending hours each day together enjoying life. Lela was feted as the kindest and sweetest lady in the nursing home and it was a real pleasure to see the humble but beautiful smile on her face. Prior to her last year, Lela lived in the Haven in Colombia, Louisiana, where her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cindy May loved her and cared for her for five years and where she made many friends among residents and staff. Her always strong faith continued to grow and influence others. She stated in recent weeks that she was ready to go home to Jesus. Lela was a 50-plus year member of Green Baptist Church in Oak Grove and taught School as well as participated in ladies groups. She truly loved her friends there and thought of them and prayed for them often in her later years. Her service for many years was praying for all those in need, especially for her children. She taught us all what a true Christian was and how patience and love could heal. Lela was born in Ruleville, Miss. to William and Helen Hammond who preceded her in death. She moved as a child to Louisiana where she married Willie L. May in 1947. He preceded her in death in 2009. Lela is also preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Lynn Gunter of Oak Grove and by an infant daughter, Billie Sue May, a grandson, Scott Ingram as well as one sister Georgia Williamson and three brothers, Bill Hammond, Henry Hammond and Ambrose Hammond. Lela left behind her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Stu Pugh of St. Louis, Mo., daughter, Charlotte Chaney of Meridian, Miss., and son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cindy May of Gilbert, La. Surviving grandchildren are, Dennis Byargeon of Fulshear, Texas, Samuel Ingram of Md., Travis Gunter of Oak Grove, Stacy Gunter Miller of Oak Grove, Dustin Gunter of Magalia, Calif., Robin May Thomas of Gilbert, La. and Nicole Blake of Farmerville, La. There are numerous and beloved great grandchildren. Lela is also survived by her brother, A.J. Hammond of High Wycombe, England, her sisters, Cora Lee Hammond Silowsky of Angola, Ind. and Alice Hammond Kilgore of Monroe, La.. Lela is going to be missed by all that knew and loved her.
