Obituary: SHREVEPORT, LA - Ora Gene Giddens Matheny went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 2, 2015. Left behind to cherish her precious memory are sons, Richard, Michael, Dennis, David, and John, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family. Gene, as she preferred to be called, was born in Ringgold, LA on 24, 1926 to loving parents, Isaac Earold Giddens and Mary Avie McGinty Giddens, who raised her to be a Christian in every sense of the word. She grew up in the country with three brothers who aggravated her, two sisters who took up for her, and she loved attending school-except for the times when she got in trouble for talking in class. She loved singing and playing the piano, playing basketball with her schoolmates and helping her mother in the kitchen. graduation, she moved to Shreveport and began work as a telephone operator. Towards the end of WWII, Gene met the love of her life, a US Navy man by the name of Bob C. Matheny. He had served in the Navy for 4 years, surviving the vicious attack on Pearl Harbor by the cowardly forces of Imperial Japan. Bob was home on leave and had made a date with Genes roommate, but upon arriving learned she had appendicitis. She suggested Bob take Gene instead-they both agreed, and off they went to the State Fair of Louisiana, where they rode the rides, ate the food, and laughed and laughed. fell in love and were married on 21, 1945 and remained devoted to each other until Bobs passing in May of this year. Gene saw this great country by traveling to meet Bob whenever and wherever his next orders sent him. Nearly every son was born in a different state, and no matter where Bob was stationed she would faithfully follow with kids in tow, to be by his side. Throughout their marriage, there was unconditional love not only for each other, but for their sons as well. were both proud to have raised five boys and were loving, kind parents. Gene passed three months to the day after Bob, and a more fitting end to their storybook romance there could not be. The family wishes to thank St. Joseph Hospice, her wonderful caregivers, and all the friends and family who were there with words of encouragement and prayers. services will be held at 2:00 p.m., , 6, 2015, at Hill Crest Memorial , conducted by Rev.
