Obituary: LANDRY Sister Margaret Mary Landry, O.Carm, a Sister of Mount Carmel and teacher, returned to God on , 30, 2010 at Eastridge . She was 96 years old and in the 77th year of her religious profession. Sister Margaret Mary was born Genevieve Adea Landry, on Jan. 23, 1914 in Rayne, LA to Adonis Landry of Jeanerette, LA and Virginia Schexneyder Landry of Rayne, LA. She entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Sept. 5, 1930, made her first profession on Aug. 2, 1933 and pronounced perpetual vows Aug. 3, 1936. Sister Margaret Mary graduated from Mount Carmel in New Iberia, LA in 1929. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in French and a minor in Latin and History from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA and earned a Masters degree in Theology from Notre Dame in South Bend, IN in 1956. She also received a Masters degree in English from Catholic University in Washington, DC in 1967. Sister Mary Margaret taught from 1933 to 1971 at Mount Carmel schools in Paincourtville, ncro, New Iberia, Thibodaux, Rayne, St. Dominic, St. James Major and Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans, Abbeville and Lafayette. From 1976 - 1987 she served as coordinator and director of religious education in New Iberia, Lafayette and for St. Ann Parish in Houma, LA. From 1987-2000 Sister Margaret Mary taught children at Cub Corner and adult scripture classes in St. Dominic parish and at the Motherhouse. She received the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" honor from the Lafayette Parish Council, awarded the Degree of Paladin Leader and the Devoted Oxnard Teacher award. She resided at Our Lady of Wisdom care from 2001 until Hurricane Katrina when she re-located to the Golden Age of Welsh, Welsh, LA and later moved to Eastridge , Abbeville, LA where she remained until her death. Sister Margaret Mary, the fourth of nine children was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Mr. Louis O. Landry and four sisters: Mrs. Edes Mier, Mrs. Zena Hamilton, Mrs. Virginia Morris, and Monica Patricia Landry. She is survived by one brother: Mr. Dennis Paul Landry of Crowley, LA and two sisters: Mrs. Delta Morris of Pasadena, TX and Mrs. Delia (Dee) Orlopp of Caldwell, TX. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Motherhouse, 420 Robert E.
