Obituary: Cleo Jenean Black McNamee 15, 1937- 17, 2015 Cleo was born to Goldie Booke Black and Franklin Maxwell Black on the Ides of , as she always liked to note, in Washington, D.C., just across the river from her girlhood home of McLean, Virginia. She loved reading, animals, and playing with her many cousins, of whom she had more than fifty. She was the oldest of five siblings, with sisters Bonita and Ruth and brothers Franklin and Richard. Cleo graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia, in 1955. She worked as a secretary at the Pentagon after graduation. In 1954, on a blind date, she met a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy, Martin McNamee, who graduated from West Point in 1955 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Cleo and Marty married in Langley, Virginia, on 20, 1955. Their lives in the next twenty-one years took them to Georgia, Kentucky, Germany (twice), Texas (three times), Oklahoma, and Kansas before returning them to Virginia. Cleo and Marty had three children, Gregory (1957), Valerie (1962), and Scott (1963). When Marty retired from the Army in 1976, they retired and moved to Tucson. joined the congregation of St Pius X Church, which Cleo served as a member of a team working with catechumens and later as secretary to Msgr. Charles Bast. Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Cleo passed away after a long struggle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Marty; her son, Gregory, and his wife Marianne; her daughter, Valerie, and her husband Mike Earl and daughter Brianna Earl; siblings Bonnie Edwards, Ruth Luke, and Rick Black and their families; many nieces and nephews and, now, a rising generation of grand-nieces and grand-nephews stretching into the future. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank, and her son Scott. Her family expects that shes beating them all at cards in Heaven even as we mourn her passing here on Earth. Cleo loved dogs, and especially her big yellow Lab, Baronbell; vacationing with her family at Oceanside, California; music; bridge; crafts, especially quilting and sewing; and all things Winnie the Pooh, especially Tigger.
