Meadows, age 97, resident of Columbus, died on , 3, 2010 at Vista Hospice of Franciscan Woods, Columbus. services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on , 6, 2010, 11 a.m. with Reverend John Meadows and Reverend Tim Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill . The family will receive friends at the funeral home on , 5, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. Mr. Meadows, son of the late Silas M. Meadows and Alabama Ketchum Meadows, was born 2, 1912. He was retired from Swift Mills where he served faithfully for 38 years. Mr. Meadows was a member of the Britt David Baptist Church and 50 years member of Rose Hill Masonic Lodge, # 464. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa Cherry Meadows and also a sister, Lucille Hall. He is survived by one daughter, Shirley Arnold Fuller of Monticello, GA; two granddaughters, Pam Arnold of Columbus and Nancy Arnold Wood and her husband John W. Wood of Monticello, GA; one grandson, James C. Arnold, Jr and his wife Debbie Arnold of Waycross, GA; four great-grandchildren, Delaney Wood, John C. Wood, Christillie Wood, and Caitlyn Arnold; other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Vista Hospice, 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904 or Britt David Baptist Church, 2801 W. Born in Cochran, Georgia, he was the son of Warren Terrell and Lena Mae Purser Meadows. Mr. Meadows was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was a retired auditor with the Georgia Department of Revenue. Survivors include his wife, Martha of Macon, Georgia; son Lionel Meadows and his wife Kathryn who have two children, Aspen and Liesl of Clarksville, Georgia; and daughter, Crystal Meadows Hughes and her two children, Taylor and Tori of Jefferson, Georgia; two sisters Sue Statham of Macon, Georgia; and Jean Tucker of Lizella, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. A private burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Parkhill . Mr. Meadows was born 21, 1921 in Columbus, GA son of the late Robert Meadows and Ethel Simerly Meadows. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eva Parks Meadows. Mr. Meadows was a retired foreman with Southern Bell, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a graduate of Jordan High School a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army Aircorp veteran of World War II. Survivors include his daughter, Pauline Ledford and her husband Walt of Columbus, his son, James g. Meadows and his wife Sue of Huntsville, AL, 4 grandchildren, Joseph Ledford, Zack Ledford, Malinda Cagle, Chris Meadows, 5 great grandchildren and 3 sisters-in-law.
