Obituary: Jim McClain Mr. James Ivan Jim McClain, age 89 of Toccoa, GA, passed away, 22, 2016 at his home. Born 18, 1927 in Red Hill, Ga, he was a son of the late Isaac Horton and Alivia Lillie Mullinax McClain, and the husband of Katherine Louise Stonecypher McClain. Mr. McClain worked for his father on the family farm in Franklin before joining the U. S. Army in of 1950. serving his country with distinction in the Korean War, he returned to Franklin to work in the family business. Jim and Katherine married on 2, 1957 and moved to Toccoa, Ga where he ran a roofing business until his retirement in 1990. Jim McClain was a Christian believer from an early age and a long-time member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served as deacon, School teacher, and in many other capacities. His family remembers him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, always generous and always encouraging. He inspired those close to him in their spiritual growth and was ever available for help and encouragement. He enthusiastically endorsed and provided generously for the educational goals of all of his family. His prayers of thanksgiving at holiday times and family gatherings are remembered for thanking and praising God for the blessing of his family. His family will always remember the enormous blessings that he bestowed on them in every way over the course of his long and happy life. Family members include his wife of 59 years, Katherine Stonecypher McClain of the home; his four children, Dale and Ruth McClain of Atlanta, Roy and Sharon McClain of Gainesville, Joyce and Derek Miller of Buford, and Ellen and Judson Shelnutt of Athens; grandchildren, Evan and Julie McClain, Stephen McClain, Tyler McClain, Ashley McClain, Cory McClain, Ryan Miller, Anna and Alec Hall, Forrest McClain, Abigail McClain, Zachary Miller, Jonathan Shelnutt, Claire Shelnutt, Camille Shelnutt, Hope Shelnutt, and Devin Long; sister, Janie McGahee; brothers, Pruitt McClain and Joe McClain; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Smith; brothers, Solon McClain, Hoke McClain, Pete McClain, George McClain, and Roy McClain (in childhood). services will be held at three oclock , 26, 2016 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Dr. Roddy Turner and Dr. Bill Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Georgia National Guard. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The Honorary Pallbearers will be the Mens School Class of Ebenezer Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 2-4 and 6-8 , 25, 2016. Flowers are optional. Those desiring may make memorial donations to Amedisys Hospice, 53 Rock Drive, Toccoa, GA 30577. The McClain Family would like to extend a very special Thank You to Amedisys Hospice, to caregivers Annette Boling and Johnnie Jarrard and to Dr. Marc Coan for taking exceptional care of their husband, father, and grandfather.
