Obituary: Aletha Fay Martin (Doogie) passed away peacefully in her bed at Benton Village in Stockbridge Georgia where she had been in residents for the past 6 years on , 11, 2016. She was 94 years old. Doogie was born on 15, 1922 in Buford, Georgia to her parents, Lewis Clifford Bennett and Argia OFay Bennett. She was the oldest of 4 children. Her younger siblings were Charlotte, Mildred and Clifford Jr. She lived most of her early life in Atlanta Georgia where she met and married her husband of 21 years, Raymond Edward Martin. She was a mother of three. Sandra Fay, Raymond Edward Jr., and Stephen Carl Martin. Doogie worked as homemaker and mother until the death of her husband in 1964. She then went to work at D.C.Heath publishing company which later lead to a secretarial position with DeKalb Board of Education. She retired in 1984 and spent her remaining years loving life and enjoying her family and friends. Doogie had 5 Grandchildren, Marty, Hope, Hannah, Tara and Jenna, 9 Great Grandchildren, Cody, Kaitlyn, Hannah, John, Jared, Luke, , Eli and Trevor, 2 Step Great Grandchildren, Trinity and Grace and 3 Great Great Grandchildren, Brystal, Landyn and Emersyn. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her sisters, Charlotte and Mildred and her Grand daughter Hannah. Doogies services will be held at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. Visitation will be on 13th evening from 6:00 - 8:00pm and on 14th morning from 10:00 - 11:00am. service will be , 14th at 11:00am with a Celebration of Life luncheon afterward for family and close friends. Burial will be at Rest Haven , 2284 Candler Road, Decatur, Georgia 30032 immediately following the luncheon. |

Obituary: Albert Hugh Martin (Mike) Mike passed away to be with his Lord and Savior, on 28, 2014. He was born on 24, 1932, in Brevard, N.C. to Albert Hugh Martin, Sr. and Ruth Aiken Martin. He lived in Savannah most of his life. He retired from Ace Hardware after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1951 during the Korean War. Mike was an active member of Calvary Baptist Temple and was a member of the Finnegan-West School Class. Over the years he was a volunteer in the music library and was a member of the choir. He was a volunteer for the all-Volunteer Security Team at Calvary Day School, a vital ministry for keeping our students and faculty safe during school hours. Also, he was responsible for the live plants in our foyers being kept so beautiful. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by some cousins and several close friends at Calvary Baptist Temple, his School Class and the entire believers at Calvary. He loved his church. God wants me now, He set me free. Obituary: On May 8, 2015 Barbara Anne Martens, of Rome, peacefully went to be with the Lord as she was surrounded by her family and close friends. Mrs. Martens was born in Ashtabula, Ohio 3, 1929. She was the daughter of the late George Rule Castetter and Idella Hazel Yoder Castetter. She graduated from Skidmore in Saratoga Springs, NY before moving to Georgia and ultimately settling in Rome where she has resided since 1954. Mrs. Martens served the community as a registered nurse at Floyd Hospital from 1954 to 1959 and Redmond Regional Hospital from 1974 to 1997. She was very dedicated to her calling of being a nurse. She loved her patients and coworkers. Until her final days Mrs. Martens enjoyed sharing stories, memories, smiles and laughs with the family, caretakers and friends. She enjoyed sports and was quick to have a comment and an opinion about Georgia Football, Wimbleton, and just this spring watched every second of the Masters. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Martens is survived by her three children; John Martens (Dawn) of Stockbridge, GA., Joel Martens (Teresa) of Villa Rica, GA., and Melinda Dennard (Wayne) of Acworth, GA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and cousins; Norma Large of Sturgis, Mi., and Betty Dickison of Goshen, In. The family wishes to thank the staff at Redmond Regional Hospital, Brookdale Senior Living , and Heyman Hospice for their professionalism and loving care. Thank you also to Marty and Jack Vaughn, our mothers friends and caretaker, for all the love and support that you have shown. A graveside service for Mrs. Martens was held May 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens with Dr. Scott Miller, of Summit Church in Acworth, officiating. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to be made to Heyman Hospice P.O. Box 163, Rome, Ga. 30161-0163. Daniel's has charge of arrangements. |
