Obituary: Garnetta J. Link, 88, passed away , 1, 2014 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born May 15, 1926 to William (Shorty) and Mollie Marsee in Lakeland, FL. Garnetta loved LDS Girls camp, and nature. She was a member of Ladies Around the Lake in Keystone Heights, FL. Garnetta owned and operated school buses in Duval for 30 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Herman G. Link Jr. and 4 sisters. Garnetta is survived by her son J.B. (Karen) Williams, daughter Misty (Sal) Pace, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. under the care of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country , 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Obituary: Born 2, 1926 in Baltimore MD to Frank A. Link and Annie Blair Link. He grew up in Baltimore. As a young boy Frank enjoyed being a Boy Scout and excelled in swimming at the YMCA where he swam competitions. grade school, he was selected based on his academics to attend Baltimore Polytechnic High School. There he attained the equivalent of an engineering degree. Frank was drafted in 1944 into the Navy. Navy assessments qualified him for appointment to the Naval training program for electrical engineering at Texas A &M University. Upon graduation, he was stationed at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station as a aviation electronic technician 3rd class mate. He serviced radios, transmitters and radar equipment. He was discharged in 1947. That same year he met Marie Trzeciak and they were married on , 29, 1947 against the wishes of Maries father that his oldest daughter should be married first. Once they started their family, they kept on going. Nine children were born in Baltimore: Linda, Francis, Jr. , Laura(stillborn), William, Laura, John, Doris, Joseph(deceased), and Joann. Starting his career after exiting the Navy, Frank worked at Western Electric in their quality division. As his next and long term employment, The Martin Co. hired Frank to work on the Missile Master, the first transistorized system for missile air defense against enemy aircraft. Frank appreciated a chance to meet the owner of Martin Co., Glen L Martin, on a plane. In 1959, at the age of 33, he transferred to a new position with Martin Co in Orlando, FL, and settled in Winter Park. The Winter Park home still remains with the family to this day (Ed Link).There the family grew adding 6 more children: Mary, Edward, Gloria Jean, Richard(deceased), Daniel and Michael. Franks motto was No sense in paying someone when you can do it yourself. So he taught himself car repair including full engine rebuilding, home construction, refrigeration and appliance repair, among many other things to keep the house and cars functional for his big family. Frank was a very dedicated husband to Marie(deceased) and later to Fran, his second wife. He was a devoted father, always offering direction and support and encouraging the hard work that it takes to accomplish anything in life. Frank is survived by his second wife, Fran, his children : Linda Helmick (Sonny,deceased) , Frank, Jr. (Nadine), Bill(Jadie), Laura Himes(Mark), John( Sherry), Doris Gump, Joann Vazquez(Bill, deceased), Mary McDonald, Ed(Nora), Jean(Jannell), Dan(Christi) and Mike, his stepson, Charlie Peterson(Tracy,deceased). Also, by his grandchildren: Erin Bryant(Wyn), Dr. Christopher Link, Will Link, Esq.(Andrea), Stephen Link(Brooke), Himes, Monica Himes, Judith Gump(deceased), Jonathan Vazquez, Gregory Vazquez, Erica Mackey(Timmy), Jessica Carter(Garry), Richard McDonald(Chelsea), Jennifer Link, Joseph Link, Ryan Link, Brittany Link, Bradley Link and John Link. Step grandchildren: Jennifer Bush(Kalen),Brianna and Kameron Peterson and ten great grandchildren. May he rest in peace. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association. |
