Obituary: Leslie Charles Lee went to meet his friend Jesus on 8, 2015, after making each and every day count following a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in of 2014. He played the hand he was dealt with courage and a positive attitude. His journey taught us that life goes by in the blink of an eye and we must appreciate the moments. Les was born to Clarence Sr. and Sena Lee on 29th, 1949, in the town of Deerfield, Wisconsin. He lived on Ridge Road for nine years, before his family moved to Marshall, Wisconsin, where he attended school. Participating in varsity sports (football, basketball, and baseball) was the start of many lasting friendships. Les was most proud to be named captain of the 1966 undefeated football team, and enjoyed reunions with Coach and his teammates throughout the years. Following high school, Les proudly served four years in the US Navy. He spent two years on the USS Raleigh and two years at the naval base in Norfolk, VA on special duty. He met another lifelong friend, Rodger, while stationed there. Les returned home from serving his country and met his future wife, Bonnie. married on 3rd, 1973. Together, they raised three amazing children and loved their two grandchildren (and grand puppy) unconditionally. opened their hearts and home to four foreign exchange students, who became a part of their family. also traveled most of the United States together, as well as other parts of the world. Weekend trips around Wisconsin to play video games with family made him happy, as well as spending weekends at the cabin up north. Working as a wash plant operator for 42 years, and coaching youth basketball, were passions in his life. He worked for Madison Sand and Gravel, along with his father, father-in-law and two brothers. He worked many long hours, often seven days a week, until his illness forced him to retire. He always joked about graduating from Deansville Tech, School of Rockology. Les coached for the East Madison YMCA, and several Marshall teams, throughout the years. He was proud of the boys he coached, respected them, and appreciated their hard work; especially, his own son Jon. There are two places that made Les truly happy…his shed underneath the wash plant and the sidelines of the basketball court. He also coached youth bowling, advised the church youth group and led a Boy Scout troop. Les was proud to be a 45 year American Legion member in Marshall. He served the post for many years as Adjutant or Commander. Walking in parades as part of the honor guard and speaking to students on Veterans Day were important to him. He also was part of the committee that envisioned and constructed the Veterans Memorial Park in Marshall. Until they meet again, Les leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss his laughter and smile. Wife, Bonnie Jean (Burke) Lee of Marshall. Daughter, Michelle Leslie Lee-Kuhlow (Dan) of Whitewater. Daughter, Marci Lynn Conway of Marshall. Son, Jonathan Jerome Lee of Marshall. Grandchildren, Mikaela Jordan Conway and Jake Daniel Kuhlow. Grand puppy, Cane. Daughters, Andrea Grijalva, Marianela Grijalva, Ana Grijalva of Ecuador. Son, Roque Echeverria of Mexico. Sister, Dinah (Bernie) Galston of Marshall. Brother-in-Law, Waldamar Vick of Columbus. Sister, Darlene (Roger) Haerterich of Sun Prairie. Brother, Clarence Jr Bud (Janice) Lee of Pardeeville. Sister, Linda Lee of Sun Prairie. Brother-in-Law, Dale (Joan) Burke of Fitchburg and their children Austin (Jessica) and Deana. Aunt, Meta Weihert of Fall River. Many nieces and nephews (along with their extended families) who he enjoyed spending time with and laughing with at holidays and family reunions. He holds a special place in his heart for his Queen Sue. Les will be welcomed to heaven by family members who have already arrived. His grandparents, Charles and Hermine Weihert and John and Lillian Lee. His parents, Clarence Sr. and Sena Lee. His sister, Donna Vick. His brother, Larry (Ozzie) Lee. His niece, Sheila Lee. We hope Donna bakes him one of her desserts, Ozzie takes him to watch a baseball game, Sheila laughs at one of his dirty jokes, and he joins them all at a table of sheepshead…like it always was. Throughout life and his months living with cancer, Les never lost his love and devotion for his savior, Jesus Christ. The things that mattered most to him in life always included the love and respect he felt being associated with his belief in the Heavenly Father. A heartfelt thank you to the Columbus Oncology Department, Dr. Frontiera and Dr. Motl, for guiding Les during his diagnosis and treatments. Agrace Hospice for making Les comfortable when he was getting tired and ready to say goodbye. Pastor Rick for sharing words of faith and helping plan what will be a beautiful memorial service. Dennis Stransky for being a true friend, teammate and best man. Tom Waddell for making it a priority to call or visit Les daily. Bob Purdy for letting Les feel like he was still helping him by calling with questions about the wash plant…please take good care of Less second home for him. Lorre from Bristol Lutheran Church for contacting Bonnie to make sure she was doing well. So many more family and friends, near and far, who reached out in small ways to Les and his family throughout his illness…our family thanks you. A celebration of his life will take place at the Marshall Senior High School, Marshall, WI, on , 14, 2015. Visitation will be from 9am-11am, a memorial service at 11am, followed by a luncheon. Les liked to dress up, but he also enjoyed watching Wisconsin sports. Please feel free to wear your Badger, Brewer, Marshall or Packer attire…or your favorite three-piece suit! In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the family. The family asks that you please bring a photo to gift to them that holds a special memory of Les.
