Obituary: Roy Sidney Long Jr. was born in Brushy, Okla., to Roy Sidney Long Sr. and Carrie (Roberts) Long. He was a 10th generation American; a descendant of Henry Long, a tobacco plantation owner, who immigrated to Virginia from England in the early 1600s. Roy resided at Chehalis West Assisted Living facility for the past five years and was thankful for the excellent care given there. He was a proud World War II veteran, having served as a staff sargent/squad leader with the United States Armys 70th Infantry Division, fighting in France and Germany. Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife,Wanda Evelyn (Brewer) Long; sons, Roy Lee Long and Danny Wayne Long; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his brother, John W. Long and sister, Mary (Long) Evans, both in California; sons, Jim R. (Georgea), David M. (Trina) and Tony S. (Carol), all residing in Onalaska. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Roy worked as a carpenter, general contractor, real estate agent and enjoyed buying and selling merchandise for many years. But, his passion was always in aviation. He owned and flew a vintage 1946 Ercoupe for many years. Other interests included genealogy, reading history, studying art and reading the Bible. He was surprisingly knowledgeable in all these. He had an incredible memory! Roy best defined himself when he wrote the following; I believe in God. And Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost indeed! Collectively, they bear me up, that simply is my creed: SAB. Public viewing is set for , May 8, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Sticklin Chapel, Centralia, Wash. Interment will be at the Tahoma National , Kent, Wash., with military honors, , May 10, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Chehalis Veterans Memorial Museum. |
