Obituary: Stephen Brian Lien 10, 1966 - 9, 2015 Stephen Brian Lien was born on a bright sunny day in McMinnville, Oregon. He was the first born in the family and was the joy of all as he was growing up. He passed too soon from surgical complications on a recent warm spring morning in Puyallup, Washington. Brian loved to hike, and was passionate about sports - playing and watching. He was a serious fan of the Oakland As and the Seattle Seahawks, and a formidable athlete in his own right winning many honors for baseball and football while in high school. Most of Brians adult life was spent in the business world. He received his MBA from Arizona State University, and worked for several high tech companies over the years, most notably Northrup Grumman. For the last several years Brian was hampered by complications from a devastating car accident that left him disabled, but not disheartened. His family will miss his smile and charm. Brian is survived by his mother, Neala Armstrong and his two children, Anthony and Katherine, all of Mesa, Arizona. He is also survived by his father, Wallace W. Lien, Salem, Oregon and his brother, Wallace W. Lien Jr., of Richland, Washington. |

Obituary: Aloha to all, 9 2016 Sonia Lien Vrooman Kahanamoku is dead. Born 20 1935, Sonia passed away on 9 2016 at Bainbridge Island & Rehab, Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA. Sonia Lien suffered her first years of life from neglect and abuse, as well as bigotry from her birth family. Sonias mother, likewise abandoned by her Southern racist family and with no support community, was unable to help her baby. From early on, Sonia exhibited all the psychopathology of attachment disorder, a condition of which at the time there was little understanding. Music, and playing the role of entertainer, became for Sonia the art of her survival and the creative lifeblood of coping into adulthood. She continued to play, sing, and entertain those around her as she navigated a four year hitch in the Navy Hospital Corps. She received her honorable discharge DD 214 on 1 1958. On 18 1964 Sonia married Stanley Orvis Lien, another step toward healing. Sadly Stanley passed away 18 1995. 15 years later Sonia discovered her Hawaiian roots and heritage, making joyful connection with her ohana in the Islands, and for the first time visiting the grave of her father, Samuel Alapai Kahanamoku. She wrote her story, with coauthor K. D. Kragen, From Alone To Aloha: The Sonia Lien Story, published in 2011 (alohasonia.com). In the final days of her earthly sojourn, Sonia maintained her cheery self. She saw her last moments "as a new beginning," assuring those around her "all is well with my soul." As a survivor, artist, friend, delightful Hawaiian, Sonia amazed us all with her outlook on life, on death, her Aloha, her shalom. "My cancer, living with cancer is a blessing - a joy!" she once noted. "I appreciate the opportunity to visit with and care for others who visit me in my final days in this life." Right to the end she found ways to care about others, her visitors, her roommate in the bed next to her at the hospice. Obituary: Signe (Sally) A. Lien Sally Lien passed away 7, 2015. She was born 11, 1933 in Arlington, WA. She was the sixth child of Andrew and Sigrid Lien, immigrants from Norway. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1951. Sally married Bill Bacon in 1958. later divorced. She studied bookkeeping and accounting and worked her entire adult life up until a few months ago. Sally loved her siblings and their families and always made sure to stay in touch will the whole family, taking an interest in how each one was doing. The family returned this love and will miss her dearly. She was an Eisenhower Republican and served as a precinct committeewoman for many years. She was elected to the Arlington city council in 1995, earning a reputation as a diligent, practical leader over the next 16 years as the city grew and went through many changes. Sally was an infant baptized, childhood confirmed member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Arlington. She was active in church activities and services, including singing in the choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alfred Lien and his wife, Julia, and Conrad Lien; sisters Gertrude, Clara and Agnes and their husbands Olaf Floe, Sigvald Sande and Palmer Molstad; nieces Susan Floe, Phyllis Thoms, Elaine (Bud) Anderson and (Walter) Dellwing; and nephew, Merle Sande. She is survived by special niece Chris (Jim) Cochran; nieces Carri (Jim) Nielsen and Dorothy Ross; nephews Ivan(Marian) Molstad, Andrew (Dottie) Lien, Melvin (Anne) Molstad, Jim (Alice) Brisbin, and Howard (Leona) Brisbin, and niece by marriage, Mary Ann Sande. She also leaves many much loved great and great, great grand nieces and nephews too numerous to list, as well as cousins, extended family, colleagues, neighbors and friends. The family would like to thank the Staff and Administration of the Josephine Sunset for the care, love, and kindness they showered on Sally the past few months. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Saviours Lutheran Church (Arlington) and The Loyal Heights Association, or the charity of your choice. |

Obituary: Norma J. Lien 1936-2015 Norma passed away peacefully in her sleep on 3, 2015. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Archie Lien, as well as her parents, Margaret & Norman Jones, and brother, Raymond Jones. Norma was born in Trenton, NJ, but lived the majority of her years in Poulsbo. Normas rich and full life was spent relaxing at the Lake Quinault cabin, enjoying the company of family and friends, dancing, playing cards, sailing on many Big Band Cruises, and traveling to Norway to visit relatives. Norma devoted 21 years to the Kitsap Regional Library as a bookkeeper. retirement she volunteered many hours supporting the Poulsbo Historical Society, The Friends of the Library, and there are many children in the Kitsap area who learned to read under Normas gentle guidance. Begrudgingly at times, she was a regular at Husky games for over 20 years, supporting Archies long love of football. Lastly, Norma frequently could be found toasting every drink with Archie and many, many friends in the Trolls Den at the Sons of Norway, where she was a member for over 38 years. Norma is survived by her brother, Kenn Jones, children, Lynda (Scott), Michael, Ann (Marylou), step-daughter Sandy (Vince), and beloved grandchildren, Sheena (Kody), Jennifer (Caleb), Brian, Brittany, Jamie (Aaron), Brandee (Brian), Alisha, Natasha, Donald, Vanora-Sue, and 3 great-grandchildren, Emma, Allison, and Lacey, as well as multiple grand-cats. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, beloved mother, loyal friend, and lady bug enthusiast. As Norma was a faithful parishioner, for 50+ years, at Vinland Lutheran Church, a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on , 16th at Vinland Lutheran Church, 2750 NW Finn Hill Road, in Poulsbo. |
