Obituary: Florence Luella LeMaster, 83, of Yakima, passed away , 15, 2012 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Florence was born 23, 1928, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Vigo and Amy Johansen. When she was young, her family including her eight brothers and sisters, moved to Denver and a few years later, to Yakima. She graduated from Yakima High School in 1946 ½. Her proud high school accomplishments were being in the Honor Society, working in the cafeteria and designing the cover of the Lolomi. Mom fell in love and married her sweetheart Glen LeMaster in 1948. were due to celebrate 64 years together in . A lifetime of sharing and caring made them inseparable. were often seen quietly together holding hands. Mom and Dad were definitely good role models for marriage. Mom loved to cook and bake. She made our home a place for everyone to gather. No one was ever turned away from her door. made bread, cinnamon rolls and her special peach cobbler were just some of the wonderful tastes and smells that came from her kitchen. Mom served many meals to all their friends and relatives. Everyone that had been blessed to enjoy a meal with her knew they would never leave the table hungry. Walking through her door required you to eat and drink something that she prepared. Mom definitely knew the meaning of the word hospitality! Florence became a Mom involved for a cause in 1988 after the death of her son Raymond of AIDS. She was a member of PFLAG and CAREBEARERS. Mom would get up and tell her story to educate other parents. She cooked and delivered many meals, including the often requested hamburger gravy and mashed potatoes to AIDS patients that were alone and needed a friend. Mom and Dad became Hospice volunteers so they could help more. Together they offered comfort and support to other families. We were proud of her outreach and accomplishments. Everyone that knew Mom also knew that she was the Queen of Correspondence! Mom sent cards, notes and letters for all occasions. She loved sending and receiving cards. We know that we will all miss that special touch from her. She made everyone feel loved and cared for. Her way of sending hugs through the mail. Mom and Dad loved to go to the ocean together. Many of their camping trips were to the Washington and Oregon coast. enjoyed the company of friends during those trips, playing cards and beach combing. Mom was a member of the Yakima First Baptist Church, Martha Circle and the National Letter Carriers Womens Auxiliary. Florence is survived by her husband Glen; two children, Alice (Jack) Tobey of Lynden and Beth (Kim) Richardson of Yakima; two grandchildren, Maria (Jeff) Wynne of Lynden and Daniel Tobey & partner Luis Lepe of New York City; two great grandchildren, Landon Wynne and Gavin Wynne of Lynden; and our dear and special friend, Jerry McNamara of Kirkland. Florence was preceded in death by her son Raymond Glen; parents, Vigo and Amy; brothers, Wilfred, Ivan, Lloyd, Earl and Virgil and sisters, Wilma, Lavada and Ruby. Mom, we will miss your loving arms that always held us near and made us feel so protected. Your kind, caring and compassionate spirit will live in our hearts forever. You were an Angel on earth and now an Angel in heaven looking over us. We love you. Softly the leaves of memory fall Gently we gather and treasure them all. Unseen, unheard she is always near Still loved, still missed, still very dear Visitation will be held at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel on and from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. services will be held at 11:00 a.m. , 23, 2012, at Keith and Keith Terrace Heights Chapel. Burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the Chapel. Memorials to be made to the favorite charity of the donor in memory of Florence. |
