Obituary: Solveig Mable Lambert Solveig was born in Molde Norway on 19th 1921. Molde is on the Rumsdal peninsula in southeastern Norway. It is surrounded by the Fannefjord and the Moldefjord. Its original Viking name Veoya and was settled about 1000 A.D. Molde means Fertile soil. Norway is a beautiful place, but in the early 20th century its economy was very poor. Her father (Nils Julnes) and mother (Marie Julnes) felt they would have a better life in America and like so many others immigrated to the United States. Marie already had relatives living in the Northwest and felt the move would be a safe one. Solveig grew up in the Seattle school system where she excelled as a good student. She was the oldest of four children. She had three brothers, Norval, Erl and Ralph who she had a big hand in raising. All her brothers have preceded her in death. high school, she took training in secretarial sciences. Solveig once said "When I was growing up women had four choices: motherhood, being a nurse, being a teacher or being a secretary." She wasn't interested in nursing or teaching so she opted to take work as a secretary. Upon receiving her certification, she went to work for the Washington State Department of Employment Security housed at the Smith Tower in downtown Seattle. It took two bus transfers from Ballard on her daily commute. Solveig worked several years at the Smith Tower, but Seattle was getting too big for her and she was looking for a change. She applied for a transfer to her agency's Olympia office. Once she received that transfer she made the big move. Solveig was an outgoing person and made some good friends. One of those friends introduced her to a very special man named Zane Lambert. Zane was still in the Navy and his aircraft carrier the Hollandia was docked at the Port of Olympia. fell in love and were married in 1946. Zane had fallen for the Northwest's beauty and didn't want to return to the dirt brown Texas panhandle life. The couple made their first home in the capital neighborhood near Lincoln school. then bought a large two story house near Tenth and Franklin streets in downtown Olympia where they lived for 48 years. Solveig's most harrowing experience was when she almost drowned while swimming in the Clackamas River in Oregon. Once she relaxed, she was able to breathe and swim back to shore. Her most enjoyable moments were getting married, raising her children and learning new things. Solveig enjoyed baking, painting, knitting, crocheting, going to craft fairs, volunteering at church and being with friends. Solveig and Zane had three children: sons Paul, Dave and daughter Christine (McNamara). have a large extended family with spouses Tanna, Maggie, and Brian respectively. In addition, there are 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
