Obituary: Mildred Phyllis Christensen Link, age 81, passed away on , May 1, 2014. Mildred was born on 10, 1932 in Norge, Virginia and became a lifelong Hampton resident after her marriage to James Harris Link 17, 1953. Mildred graduated from Toano High School in 1950. She graduated from Mary Immaculate School of in 1953 (Elizabeth Buxton Hospital). She served as a nurse in the surgical unit at Mary Immaculate Hospital and retired in 1975. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hampton, taught school and was a member of the United Methodist Womens Circle 1. While her children were young, Mildred was a leader in the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) and was a Den Mother in the Boy Scouts of America organization. Her hobbies included travel, camping, crocheting, cooking and gardening. Preceding her in rest are her parents, Jens Carl and Emma Rowland Christensen; sisters, Effie C. Peterson, Edna Catrine Christensen and Virginia Elizabeth Chandler; and brother, Carl Raymond Christensen. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James Jimmy H. Link; two sons, James Raymond Link and wife, Patricia S., and William Michael Link and wife, Sharon M.; niece, Karen Lynette Link; grandchildren, Jessica Nicole and husband, Jay Bakley, Autumn Marie and husband, Rufus Rhodes, and Tiffany and husband Kevin Miller; great-grandson, Gavin Allen. The family will receive friends on evening, May 5, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 at Parklawn-Wood . A service celebrating Mildreds life will be held , May 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Hampton, VA followed by interment at Parklawn Memorial Park. Refreshments and fellowship will follow services at First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Queen Street, Hampton, VA.
