Obituary: I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course. Born 7, 1934 in Holland Virginia to James Arthur Lawrence and Martha Lawrence-Hunter, James Eldridge “Bubba” Lawrence was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and uncle. James accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mount Sinai Baptist church, where he was active in school, the Young Adult Choir and several other ministries. James’ formal education began at Nansmond Training school. graduating from high school, he enrolled at St. Paul’s in Lawrenceville, Va. He later joined the US Army’s 1st HOW BN 10th ARTY APO 139, where he served primarily in Bamberg Germany. During his military service years, James received numerous awards, acknowledgements and an Honorable Discharge from active duty in 1959. He then continued his military service as a Reservist assigned to TRANS USAR XXI US ARMY CORPS until 1963. his military career, James moved to Newark, New Jersey where he worked for Western Electric and was especially proud to be a member of The National Negro Baseball League’s Newark Eagles. In 1963 he married Anne-Marie Delatouriere and three daughters were born out of their union. As a valued employee of Western Electric, James and his family transferred to Mesquite, Texas in 1983. While in Mesquite, he joined Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church, where he was an active member in many ministries including Evangelism, Missions, Senior Adult Ministry, Men of Integrity, Media/Publications, Congregational Support and a valued member of the Men’s Choir and Board of Trustees. Among Bubba’s many hobbies were fishing, cooking, traveling, sports and photography. Bubba was preceded in death by his wife Marie Lawrence and daughter Sherry Lawrence-Phillip. He leaves to cherish his memories: Children: Kim Lawrence (Mesquite, TX), Cathy Lawrence (Randallstown, MD), Regina Charles (Somerset, NJ) and Lamont Saunders (Newark, NJ). Grandchildren: James Eldridge Lawrence II, Carissa Anne-Marie Lawrence, Tianna Denise Rowlett and Bria Tonette-Martha Rowlett. Great-Grandsons: Kamari James Lawrence and Bailan James Lawrence. Siblings: Rev. Wilbert Lee Lawrence, Johnnie Leon Lawrence (Jessie), Raiford Hugo Hunter (Cynthia), Ann Hunter-Malone (Richard), Dr. H Hunter-Boykin (Dwight), and Coolidge Darius Hunter (Brenda). He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that were positively touched by knowing him. Because of his kindness, wisdom and loving ways, he will be missed by all. |
