Obituary: Our dearly loved Steven R. Larson passed away 30, 2010. He was born May 19, 1947, in Provo, Utah, to goodly parents, E. Dixon and Shirley Simmons Larson. He grew up in Orem, a graduate of Orem High School and Brigham Young University. He served in the National Guard. Steve simply made the world a better place with his friendly and gentle ways. How can we adequately pay tribute to this great man in a few lines? He is survived by his wife and best friend, Cheryl Jones Larson, and his two sons, Jace Steven and Jess E. Larson (no father could be prouder!). He was a devoted son to his dear mother, Shirley Larson. He was the best big brother to his sister, Michelle Larson Crawford, who happened to marry Steves best friend, R. Kim Crawford. Many other family members mourn his passing. Steve has successfully operated his own land surveying business since 1974. His business associates would describe him as a man of intelligence and integrity. Steve took great pride in doing his work accurately and completely. Steve loved cars (although he never had time to put that Corvette back together!), hiking, photography, drawing, fishing, puttering and constructing, discussing politics, and especially the game of basketball. In fact, the last thing he did, was play a game of basketball with his son, Jace. He was so proud that his son Jess played on the Mountain View High School basketball team. But mostly, Steve was a caretaker, always giving selfless service to his family and others. He was a true and honest friend. He was a man of simple tastes (his favorite food was watermelon) and was most comfortable wearing a t-shirt and jeans. Steve was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For many years Steve served in the Cherry Hill Third Ward as a scout leader, where he influenced many boys, including his sons. He made the best bird houses ever! We will love you forever and a day! A viewing will be held at the Walker Sanderson , 646 E 800 N, Orem, , 3, from 6-8 p.m. services will be , 4, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Cherry Hill Third Ward, 1650 South 200 East, Orem. Obituary: Shirley Mary Simmons Larson Our dearly loved mother and grandmother peacefully passed away 7, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was born May 26, 1923, in Richfield, Utah, to Edgar Woolley Simmons and Florence Whistance Fisher Simmons. Two years later the family moved to St. George where her father managed a lumber company. She attended school there, and grew up with her siblings Edward “Ted†Simmons (Margaret), James Arthur Simmons (LaJoy) and Carma Jean Simmons Tabor Clark. She later moved to the Beehive House in Salt Lake City, while she attended the LDS Business . With the opening of Geneva Steel Works, she was employed by UMP as a secretary, and that is where she met a dashing mechanical engineer. E. Dixon Larson, who became the love of her life. were married 7, 1943 in Orem, Utah, later sealed in the Timpanogos LDS Temple on 26, 2004. are the parents of Steven R. Larson (deceased 30, 2010) (Cheryl), and Michelle Leone Larson Crawford (Kim). Their grandchildren are Haley Marrissa Ellis Hayes (Mark), Chelsea Michelle Ellis, McKeon Larson Crawford, Jace Steven Larson, and Jess E. Larson. Great-grandchildren are Lily Michelle and Stryder Jonathan Hayes. Dix and Shirley were active in civic affairs and the Orem Jaycees. She was historian for the Utah Women’s Legislative Council and President of the Olesea Literary Club. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as the Primary Secretary/Historian for 15 years. She was a faithful Visiting Teacher. Her interests were vast: dancing, vacationing, collecting antiques, fishing, scrap booking, gardening, genealogy, golfing, art, interior decorating, oil painting, the PTA, and she was a wonderful hostess. Dix made sure Shirley had a classy car to drive - her favorite being her Cadillac. She had a sense of style and grace. She was a beautiful woman inside and out - always the picture of femininity. She loved and enjoyed her family. Her thoughtful gifts, decorations and delicious food made every holiday and birthday special. We especially loved to eat her scones - they were devoured as quickly as she cooked them. She took great delight in inviting the grandchildren over for lunch, sleepovers, games or a tea party. She was very supportive in their activities whether it was a mission, basketball, lacrosse, soccer games, cheerleading or a dance concert. There was no prouder grandmother than she. Words cannot express the love and devotion we have for our dear, sweet, beautiful mother, grandma and friend. The memories we have of her will always be an inspiration and example for each of us to follow. She has forever blessed and enriched our lives. Her “Charity never Failethâ€. Shirley was gracious and kind to the end of her life on earth. Her family expresses appreciation to the staff at The Charleston in Cedar Hills, Dr. Marc Udall and Envision Hospice for helping to make “Miss Shirley’s†final days comfortable and pleasant. Her funeral services will be held , 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Sharon First Ward Chapel, 641 South 400 East, Orem. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Church.
