Obituary: Brig. Gen. Gustav E. Lundquist, age 88, died on , 5, 2008. As a veteran engineer/pilot, he had been involved in aviation his entire life. Commissioned in 1941, he became one of the leading USAF experimental test pilots during WWII and flew the X-1, among others. He flew combat missions in the European theater during WWII and was shot down in 1944 and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner. the war, he returned to Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio to resume experimental flight testing. In 1946, while assigned to the Flight Test Division of Wright Field, he won the Thompson Trophy, flying one of the early F-80 Shooting Stars in the Cleveland Air Races. In 1948, he directed the XS-1 rocket powered research aircraft test program and served as one of its three test pilots. In his 29 years of military service with USAF, General Lundquist served as Chief of the Weapons Projects Section for the Atomic Energy Commission; Director of the USAF Engineering Liaison Office in London; Deputy Director of Air Weapons, Air Research and Development Command; Professor and Head of the Air Force Academy Physics Department; Deputy for Engineering and Technology at the Air Force systems Command Electronics Systems Division; Deputy Commander of the Rome Air Development , Griffiss Air Force Base, NY; Commander of the Systems Engineering Group, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. General Lundquist earned his B.S. degree from the University of Illinois and M.S. degree in nuclear physics from North Carolina State University and completed three years of his study of law. He was a registered professional engineer, a licensed commercial pilot and former Air Force command pilot, member of the Tennessee and National Society of Professional Engineers, former member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, and Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was an Associate Administrator for Engineering and Development as well as executive director for all Federal Aviation Administration FAA research, engineering and development. He was involved in major significant development projects including automation of air traffic control at primary facilities across the nation, new microwave guidance system for all weather approach and landings, aerosatellite applications with automatic communication and surveillance along with short haul aircraft and airport design and operational criteria. From 1970 through 1976, he served as a member of NASAs research and technology advisory counsel. Brig.Gen. Lundquist is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Taliaferro Parrish Tolly Lundquist; son, Eric Lundquist and wife, Leslie Murchy; daughters: Beverly Lundquist, Donna Haro and husband, Richard; grandchildren: Kathryn Lundquist, Averly Lundquist, Chris Nielsen and Erica Nielsen; brothers: Bill Lundquist and wife, Marty; and George Lundquist and wife, Marie. Obituary: Marvin Lloyd Lundgren was born 5, 1927 to Martin Lundgren and Bertha Holmstrom Lundgren in Taylor, Texas. He passed away peacefully at his home on 24, 2016 at 89 years of age. Marvin attended Kimbro grade school and Elgin High School. graduating from high school in 1946, Marvin joined the United States Army, and served until 1948. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home to farm with his father on the family farm in New Sweden, Texas. In 1967, Marvin married Alice Elaine Ogston Winston, and became stepfather to her daughter, Valerie. He and Elaine made their home in Austin, while he continued to farm in New Sweden until a few months before his death. Marvin was a lifelong member of New Sweden Lutheran Church. Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Martin Lundgren, his mother, Bertha Lundgren and his beloved wife of 47 years, Elaine Lundgren. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Valerie Lanford of Austin, his grandson, Lee Lanford and his wife Stephanie of Pflugerville, his granddaughter Stacia Dodgen and her husband, Jason of Horseshoe Bay, and his great grandchildren, Reece Dodgen, Jackson Dodgen, Anna Lanford and Trey Lanford. He also leaves behind his devoted caregivers, Yogi Zapata and Albert Martinez and numerous relatives and friends. Serving Marvin as pallbearers are Harold Lundgren, Warren Lundgren, Garrett Lundgren, John Frias, Danny Fuchs and Jason Dodgen. Memorial donations may be made to the New Sweden Lutheran Church Altar Guild. A visitation will be held on , 28 from 6:00 - 8:00p.m. at Cook-Walden , located at 6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78752. Obituary: a short illness, Alice Elaine Ogston Lundgren peacefully passed away at St. David's Hospital in Austin, Texas on , May 31, 2014. She was 90 years old. Elaine was born on 10, 1923 to David R. and Susie Ogston in the Gonzales community of Dilworth. She was the oldest of three girls, attended school in Dilworth, and graduated from Gonzales High School. She attended Southwest Texas Teachers in San Marcos, Texas, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. Elaine taught Economics for 34 years first in Leander, Texas, then in Austin. retirement, she was actively involved in her church, in several Central Texas miniature groups, and with her family and many friends. Elaine was preceded in death by her father, David R. Ogston, her mother, Susie Ogston, and her two sisters, Catherine Stout and Carolyn Williamson. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Marvin Lundgren of Austin, Texas, her daughter, Valerie Lanford of Austin, Texas, her grandson, Lee Lanford and his wife, Stephanie of Pflugerville, Texas, her granddaughter, Stacia Dodgen and her husband Jason of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and her great grandchildren, Reece Dodgen, Jackson Dodgen, Anna Lanford and Trey Lanford. Obituary: Virgil Vern Lundell was born in Moline, Illinois, third child of Harry A. Lundell and Nina Gilmore Lundell. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Gilmore Lundell in 1996, and his sister, Esther May Lundell Knaack, in 1999. He was married to his wife, Betty, since 6, 1949. Virgil entered into rest on Christmas Day at his home with his family at his side. He received his B.A. from the University of Texas-Austin in 1939; then went on to earn his B.D. from SMU-Perkins School of Theology. furthering his studies at Vanderbuilt and Columbia, he became the founding pastor of St. Lukes Methodist Church of Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1946. From 1950 to 1955, Virgil started his own construction business building many houses and apartment buildings in San Antonio, Texas. In 1956, he joined LundellÂs Inc. as a director and served as Vice President until 2001, when he retired. He was also quite proficient and well known for his skills in photography and cutting and carving gems. He was President of The San Antonio Photography Club and President of The Gem and Mineral Society for several years, where he also served as a national judge. He turned his gem hobby into a successful part-time business while his family and friends received many superb examples of his talent as gifts. He is survived by his wife, Betty Thorn Lundell; son, William Grobe Lundell of Bellevue, Washington; granddaughter, Hilary; nephews, James Denniston, Harvey Knaack and family; Harry Lundell and family; niece, Judith Knaack Johnson and family; and sister-in-law, Margaret Ellen Lundell. He is also remembered by his extended family, Gale and Michael Touzinsky, their children and grandchildren; Neta and Larry Schott, their children and grandchildren; and a host of loving friends. During the years from 1975 to 2002, he and his wife, Betty, enjoyed traveling all over the world, visiting countless countries with his family and his extended family. |
