Obituary: David P. Lorms of Lake Jackson passed away peacefully on 18 at the age of 77. David was born on 11, 1939 to Ellsworth and Alice Lorms. He was preceded in death by his wonderful parents, whom he loved deeply and admired greatly, and his brother John (Jack) Lorms. David grew up in San Antonio and was active in a variety of activities in his early years. He was a member of the 1952 YMCA Little League baseball team (Union 694) that won the tri-state championship. He was the First Chair Violinist in the San Antonio Junior Symphony in 1953. He built cars and raced in the soap box derby two years. David played on the Jefferson High School football team and was a charter member of a car club, ROAD ACES. He also worked at a grocery store and was active in his church (Grace Lutheran), where he was an Acolyte. David was in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M and a member of the championship softball and handball intramural teams. He graduated with his undergraduate degree in 1962 and his Masters degree in 1963. Davids professional career was active and extensive. He taught industrial arts in BISD (mostly Brazoswood High School) for nearly 40 years and was selected Brazoswood Teacher of The Year in 1989. Under his guidance, Davids students won many awards in drafting competitions. He served as the president of both the Gulf Coast Industrial Arts Association and Texas Industrial Arts Association and the vice president of the National Industrial Arts Association. He was voted regional and state Teacher of the Year. The State Industrial Arts Association honored David with both the Distinguished Teaching award and the Hall of Honor Award. David was voted into the Iota Lambda Sigma Fraternity. Locally, David served as the president of the Classroom Teachers Association. A diligent worker in his church, he served as president of the council of St. Paul Lutheran in Freeport and as the Junior Warden of St. Timothys Episcopal Church in Lake Jackson in later years. In addition to his high school teaching career, David was a part-time drafting instructor at Brazosport for 20 years. He also co-owned and operated a roofing business, PAL Roofing, and taught drivers education training. He was very proud of the Brazoswood Tennis Camp that he created and operated for 15 years. David was also very active in the Jaycees, American Cancer Society, Lake Jackson Beautification Committee, Brazosport Planning Commission, Little Dribblers, and the A&M club (scholarship and muster chairman) and he was named KBRZ Citizen of the day in 1976. David is survived by his son David of Houston, Texas, daughter Carol Pruitt of Ben Lomond, California, daughter Susan (Gene) Harrison, grandchildren Ethan and Kathryn of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his special friend Helen Miller, of Freeport, Texas, and many friends. David dearly loved his family, friends, church, Texas A&M, his Aggie buddies, golf, tennis, and working in his shop. His years of dedication to teaching, mentoring and volunteering touched many lives. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Thompson, John Pitts, Craig Werling, Bill Hutchinson, Wilson Waldrop, Tom Borchers, Jim Cutshall, Lenny Coffee, and Davids Aggie classmates. A memorial service will be held on , 23 at 2pm at St. Timothys Episcopal Church in Lake Jackson. In lieu of flowers, David asked that contributions be made to St. Timothys. |

Obituary: Betty McWilliams Lormand (81) went to be with her faithful Lord and Savior on , 27, 2015. Betty passed peacefully, holding her beloved husbands hand, and surrounded by her children and family at home in Sound. Betty was an ovarian cancer survivor and was battling leukemia for eighteen months but always maintained her beautiful smile and strong spirit to fight her illness. She was born on 13, 1933, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and was the only child of Ruth and Amos Howell. the death of her father, Betty and her mother Ruth moved with her grandparents to Springhill, Louisiana. Betty was raised in an exceptionally loving Christian home with her Mother, Aunt Bert, and her Grandparents, Mama and Papa. Betty had many wonderful childhood memories, but her favorite times were her summers going to church camp in Mandeville, Louisiana on Lake Ponchatrain. While attending Southern Arkansas University (formerly Southern State) in Magnolia she met and married Morris McWilliams (Mac) of Macedonia, Arkansas. In 1954 Morris joined the US Army and was sent to Frankfurt, Germany. Betty joined him there where their first child, Robert Michael was born. the tour in Germany they moved to Station so Morris could finish his degree in Petroleum Engineering. In 1956 their second child, Rebecca, was born in Bryan. graduation they moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where their third child, Carol was born. returned to Texas A&M for Morris to get his Masters degree in Petroleum Engineering. Soon their fourth child Mark was born in Bryan, Texas. She was a proud Aggie and thrilled three of her grandchildren, and a niece carried on the tradition. Betty and Morris were married twenty two years and moved more than twenty times following the oil industry. Betty was the consummate, beautiful Christian mother with a tremendous faith and she was the glue of our family. In 1974 Betty started a career as a secretary working for The Houston Post; Farm & Savings, Gulf Oil Chemicals, Way Engineering and finally The Houston Chronicle. In 1975 she was blessed to meet Leroy Lormand, the love of her life, at a sing along for Parents With-Out Partners in Houston. each had four children and they married in 1976, blending their families together. Leroy enjoyed spoiling Betty and they traveled extensively throughout the United States and many of Mexicos resorts. always had a project going and shared many things together; cooking, boating, a weekend home on Lake Conroe, and finally having a home built in Sound. Betty loved Sound Church, her Bible Study, and all her church activities. She cherished family gatherings at her home. Until recently, Betty always enjoyed keeping an immaculate, beautifully decorated home, preparing daily delicious meals and desserts for her family. She delighted in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Betty had a deep faith in God all her life. She was known in the family to always be mailing little articles of spiritual value or just funny things that she wanted to share with them. It meant a lot to her when someone would say What you sent was just what I needed to hear today. She will always be remembered for her strong faith and grace. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Ruth Howell, her grandparents, Lee and Elizabeth Johnson, her first husband, Morris McWilliams, her aunts, Bertha Johnson and Geraldine Coker, her cousins Elizabeth Owens and Laura Olejnik, her son Mike McWilliams, her daughter Rebecca Wheeler, step-daughters Renee Mashue and Linda Brown and grand-daughter Angela Pearson. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Leroy Lormand, daughter and son-in-law Carol and Steve Jordan, son Mark McWilliams, daughter-in-law Ginny McWilliams, step daughter Melanie Campbell and step daughter Marilyn and Chuck Brown, her grandchildren Shane and Natalie McAfee, Kristen McAfee Wheeler, Meryl McWilliams, Chris and Callie Jordan, Michael and Bri Jordan, Sam Jordan, Brett and Shari Campbell, Blake and Selam Campbell, Brittany Campbell, Autumn Mashue, James and Jennifer Whatley, Kristi Pearson, Justin Pearson, Tiffany Pearson, Abigale Pearson and Jason Murdock. She was also blessed with 16 precious great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held , 4th at Metcalf Directors, Conroe, Texas from 5-7 pm. The funeral will be , 5th at Sound Church, Montgomery, Texas at 1:00 pm. |
