Obituary: TAY MIN LIU
Devoted Husband, Father, Son, Brother, and Friend

Tay Min Liu left us on the evening of 19, 2009, after fighting a battle with a mysterious ailment that puzzled many doctors for weeks. The people who love him grieve because we may never know why he left us so suddenly, but we are grateful that he finally may rest and have the peace that he has so arduously earned.

Tay Min was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest sister, and his third brother. He is survived by his wife Meihwa Liu of Arlington; son, Lawrence Ren Liu of Arlington; daughter, Alice Liu Cook, and son-in-law, J.B. Cook of Austin; and four brothers and three sisters of Taiwan.

Tay Min was born on 28, 1950, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to a family of ten children. Tay Min attended school in Kaohsiung, where he always remained one of the top students in his class. He attended the prestigious National Taiwan University, where he studied mechanical engineering. Later, he moved to the United States to attend graduate school and earned a Master of Science in computer science and engineering at the University of Texas in Arlington. Academic excellence was a goal that he would later urge his children to achieve.

Tay Min cherished every moment of his life. When he said to us, Life is short, he meant that we should work hard and not waste even a single minute. He lived his philosophy to the fullest. As a child, he devoted his life to his mother and father. He honored his parents by doing his best in school, and working his hardest at home. school, he often rushed to his mothers side to chop firewood to sell at the market-necessary income to help his father, who had so many mouths to feed. As he grew older, he found other ways to support his family, sacrificing his own desires and instead sending every spare dollar home, putting his sister through college, and choosing a career path that he thought would bring wealth to his family. college, he held lucrative corporate positions, first in the cement industry and then in the largest steel company in Taiwan. He represented his company in an international iron and steel conference, where he spoke about his companys cutting-edge research. More importantly, he was a respected leader, especially amongst the workers on the floor. Later, his ambitions led him to the United States, where he fulfilled his dream of being his own boss, managing his own business, and determining his own future.

On a hiking trip in 1972, while he was still a university student in Taipei, Tay Min held a parasol over a pretty and bright young lady named Meihwa Fuh, as they walked the trails side by side. For two years, they strolled in the park together, saw American movies at the theater, and fell more and more in love with each other. During his mandatory military service in the following two years, Tay Min wrote letters to Meihwa and sent her fruit he picked at the military base where he trained. He always picked the ripest, sweetest plums for his darling. She laughed out loud when she received his gifts because by the time the plums reached her in the mail, the once plump and lovely fruit was bruised and rotten. She knew in her heart that this man was very special. When his father passed away while Tay Min was still serving, one of the darkest days in his life, Meihwa was there to comfort him. She understood his grief. She understood that he regretted not having the chance to take care of his father. And she always understood his need to care for his mother.

Tay Min and Meihwa married on 12, 1977, surrounded by hundreds of family and friends. built a life and a family together. supported each other through many career changes. had a daughter and a son. moved to a foreign country and started a new life together. weathered lifes bitter disappointments together. And they basked in many little moments of joy and triumph. Tay Min would dote on his beloved Meihwa for the rest of his life. While he ran one of several successful businesses, he would also prepare three meals a day, take care of the children, and help out their friends. He was a man who always wanted to help his friends and yet never wanted to ask for any favors. He adored his family and sacrificed his life so that they might enjoy more abundance in their lives.

Tay Min was a man who loved poetry and literature. He was a man who loved animals. He was a man who loved nature, good food, and good friends. He was a man who drew fiercely loyal friends. He was a frugal man, yet was known by his friends and family as an extremely generous man. He was a humorous man, and he loved to laugh. He was a man with a gentle soul. He was a man who felt deeply. He was a man who courageously carried the burdens of others.

Tay Min devoted his life to helping the people he loved. Our only regret is that we did not take better care of him while he was still with us. We will always remember how hard he worked in his life. We will always remember his wide smile and exuberant laugh. And we will always remember the peaceful smile he gave us when he was finally able find the rest that he never had a chance to have in life.
