Obituary: Larry Orman Littleton, 73, of Dallas, died peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on 27, 2015, going to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a brief but courageous battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. Larry was born in Dallas on 24, 1941, to Dorothy Rutherford and Orman Emerson Littleton, and he always enjoyed his combined Christmas Eve-birthday celebrations with his family. He attended Highland Park schools and kept close friendships with the Class of 1959 throughout his life, including by attending their 50th Reunion and the recent HPHS 100th Anniversary Celebration. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi; he remained close to his fraternity brothers for more than 50 years via phone, email, and numerous reunion events in Austin. He then graduated from The University of Texas School of Law, where he was a Chancellor and editor of the Texas Law Review. Larry began his distinguished legal career at Fulbright & Jaworski, but soon chose to put that career on hold to join the military. He proudly served his country as an enlisted man in the Army and Texas National Guard, and then as a commissioned officer in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps of the Navy Reserve. Along with some of his UT Law classmates, he subsequently helped found the law firm Stalcup, Johnson, Meyers & Miller (since merged with Jones Day), before later joining Coke & Coke; Johnson, Bromberg & Leeds; and Hutcheson & Grundy. Larry spent the final years of his legal career as a solo practitioner. Outside the office, Larry enjoyed fishing, reading, and spending time with his gym buddies at Telos Fitness . Most of all, Larry loved Jesus, his family, and his church. Thirty-six years ago, he was a charter member of Prestonwood Baptist Church, where he later served in many leadership capacities, including two terms as Chairman of the Deacons. He was a man of integrity and a rock for our family, his friends, and his clients, as well as a great source of wisdom who always just knew things-including how to do the right thing no matter what. And he was a joyful man, who loved with his whole heart and brought smiles and laughter to everyones lives. For all of that, we will miss him very much. Larry is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jeffre Ann Owen Littleton; his children, Nancey Margaret Littleton Hernandez and husband Michael; Mary Frances Littleton Progar and husband Brian; Judson Owen Littleton and fiancée Caroline Sheetz Edsall; and Abby Ann Littleton; his grandchildren, Molly McCall Progar and Elizabeth Marie Progar; his brother, Robert Keys Littleton and wife Debbie, and their sons, Brian and Matthew; and a beloved extended family. Following a private burial service, a memorial service celebrating Larrys life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on , 6, 2015, at Faith Chapel, Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, officiated by Dr. Jack Graham and Rev. Neal Jeffrey. Visitation will take place on , 5, 2015, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Grove Hill in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Larrys memory to the Baylor System Foundation (Designation: Cancer Research) https://give.baylorhealth.com/how-to-donate/donate-online; to Prestonwood Baptist Church Broadcast Missions; or to Prestonwoods Music Ministry. The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Scott Paulson, Dr. Jennifer Wells, and the nursing staff of 6th Floor Roberts and 5th Floor Pickens at Baylor University Medical for their compassionate, respectful, and tender care for Larry during his illness. |
