Obituary: Mildred Lucille Beaver Lindhout, a lifelong member of the Church of Christ (West University in Houston and later in Kingwood) and devout follower of Christ, died , 6, 2015. She was born on 1, 1920 in Petrolia, Texas. five brothers, Mildred was the first daughter of the ten children born to Joe and Beulah Beaver. She spent much of her childhood picking cotton and caring for younger siblings. graduating from high school at 16, she later went on to receive her BSN in Fort Worth and then her MBA at Sacred Heart Dominican in Houston. Mildred continued her lifes mantra of hard work and caring for others. She started her professional career working for Hermann Hospital and Methodist Hospital where she was the assistant director of surgical nursing and worked with both Dr. Denton Cooley and Dr. Michael DeBakey. She also worked for Bellaire General Hospital and for Kelsey Seybold Clinic. However, when she retired from nursing, she did not retire from helping and caring for others. Mildred and husband Charles spent countless hours supporting and volunteering at The Cullen for Special Needs Individuals and with Special Olympics swimming until after 25 years of service, Mildreds health prevented it. She was an active member in the West University Church of Christ for 45 years. During those many years she and Charles opened their Bellaire, TX home to families in need of close access to the medical center. Mildred and Charles also transported people to doctors appointments as well as helped them to navigate the medical system. While they lived in Westbrae Court Retirement Community in Houston, Mildred continued caring for others through her nursing skills, cards, letters, phone calls and any help she could offer those in need. When her husband, Charles Lindhout, was mistakenly diagnosed with tuberculosis and was sent to a tuberculosis sanitarium for months, Mildred cared not only for her two daughters, Donna and Jane, but also for Charless daughter, Barbara and son, Charles (Bill) while she worked full time. Later, Charles and Mildred were blessed with another child, Lisa Jo Lindhout. Rearing 5 children, working and earning her MBA kept her quite busy. When her beloved husband of 48 years, Charles, became bedridden with cancer, she nursed and cared for him in their home for two years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Beulah Beaver and her husband John Carter Wilson, daughter Donna Jean Katzman, her husband Charles Stolp Lindhout and eight of her nine siblings. Mildred suffered the death of her father and her first husband within 3 months of one another. This devastating loss coupled with her faith in God, forged a strength and determination in her that helped her to face and overcome the many difficult and challenging situations in her life. Mildred is survived by her sister, Margaret Inez Nicholls of Beaumont, TX. Mildred is survived by her children, Barbara Dickinson of Conroe, TX, Charles W. Lindhout (Camille) of Roman Forest, TX, Jane Lindhout (Carrie Whitney) of Cedar Hills, UT and Lisa Lindhout of Willis, TX. Mildreds surviving grandchildren include Laurance Dickinson (Shawn) of Conroe, TX, Todd Dickinson of Spring, TX, Carrie Thomasson of Belton, TX, Dr. Brett Katzman (Laura) of Alpharetta, Ga, Jeffery Katzman of Atlanta, GA, Scott Katzman (Annissa) of Dallas, GA, Dr. Rebecca Trump (Jesse) of Timonium, MD, Trevor Lindhout (Valene) of Houston, TX, Cara Heiman (David) of The Woodlands, TX, and Hallee Whitney-Lindhout of Cedar Hills, UT. Mildreds great-grandchildren include Brittany Dickinson, Davey Dickinson, Cameron Dickinson, Julia Potts (Michael) and Morgan Thomasson, Tristan Katzman, Spencer Katzman, Ryan Katzman, Jack Trump, Bethany Lindhout, Ryker Lindhout, Luke Heiman and Annye Heiman. Mildreds great-great- granddaughter is Amelia Dickinson. These descendants are left to carry on her legacy of love and service. Mildred was a woman who loved God and her family and spent her life serving God, her family, her friends and others who needed her. She also loved to camp, to fish, to eat homemade ice cream, to attend family reunions and to play dominoes whether it was while teaching the children how to count with games of straight dominoes, or with competitive games of 42 or 84. She was loved and will be missed. Mildred was tenderly cared for in her final years by her children and grandchildren, Plantation Estate Assisted Living Staff, Houston Hospice and Tricare Hospice in Kingwood. A visitation time will precede the funeral service celebrating Mildreds life at 2:30 pm at the Kingwood , 22800 US-59, Kingwood, TX 77339 on , 13, 2015. The funeral will begin at 3:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on , 15, 2015 at 12:30 pm in Burkburnett, Texas at the Burkburnett Memorial where she will be laid to rest in the Beaver family plot next to her first husband and her parents. In lieu of flowers, Mildred requested that donations be made to New Danville for Special Needs Individuals in Willis, TX. The website is www.newdanville.org. |
