Obituary: Biography Yu Ying Hsieh was born on May 22, 1930, in Pingtung, Taiwan as the youngest of seven children. Her father, Hsieh Tsai Long, was principal of a renowned middle school in Pingtung, and her mother, Lin Shing Di, was a loving wife and mother. Yu Ying was raised in a family of scholarly educators, and she too embraced academia early on. Though she excelled as well as her brothers did in grade school, traditionally males were given priority in continuing in higher education, and like most of her fellow female classmates, her highest level of education was middle school. Nonetheless, she longed to join her brothers who went to some of the best educational institutions in Taiwan (Taiwan University, Shi Fan University). At the age of 22 Yu Ying married Yun Hsiang Lin and they resided in Miaoli, his hometown, where their four children were born (Lee-Yun, Chong-Ho, Lie-Hwei, and Lee-Fang). Soon after their youngest daughter was born, the family moved to Shulin. She took care of her children full time while her husband worked as an Agriculture Specialist. To help support her family, Yu Ying made clothes and knitted garments for many years. Her exceptional craftsmanship kept her in high demand with many clients, with whom she enjoyed helping customize different clothing styles and yarn colors. Later she worked for several years as Professor Assistant at Taiwan University in the veterinarian department to help support her four children through their university education. In 1980, Yu Ying moved to the United States to look after for her youngest daughter, Lee-Fang, who was attending university in Texas. Yu Ying went on to take care of her newborn grandchildren from Dallas, Houston, to Washington DC. For most years thereafter, she lived with her second daughter, Lie-Hwei, and her family in Houston. She participated in Houston community activities such as chorus, dancing classes, and the Houston Formosan Evergreen Association. A devoted church-goer, Yu Ying insisted on attending church each week and has been a member of Formosan Presbyterian Church in the Greater Houston for nearly two decades. In the thirty years she lived in the US, she made trips back home to Taiwan each year and enjoyed traveling abroad to destinations such as Australia, Japan, China, most of Europe, and major cities in the US. She enrolled in the Houston Taiwan Institute for Senior Citizens with incredible enthusiasm and determination, and was a member for many years. She pursued her education as the most important achievement in life. While she was hospitalized, she was able to attain her lifelong dream of receiving her college diploma for senior citizens with the approval of college president Hsu and committee. Yu Ying passed away peacefully on 15, 2010. Among many attributes, she will be most remembered for her lively spirit, love of singing, and the skills she passes onto her children and grandchildren in crafts and craftsmanship, music, and Taiwanese specialty dishes. Yu Ying has eight grandchildren. Currently some are attending college, some have graduated, and others are attending graduate school. |

Obituary: Sister MengChin Chiang Lin was born on 1, 1928 in the Linsen county of Fujian province. She was born to a traditional big Chinese family. Her father was a cloth merchant with an open mind and insisted that she needed to have some skills to make a living even though it was not common for girls to do so back then. He encouraged his daughter to pursue additional studies. Therefore, she attended a boarding school sponsored by a Christian Church after graduating from junior high school. Through the testimonies of her teachers and fellow students, she drew closer and closer to Christianity and eventually accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Her personality was quiet, well-behaved, not competing, loyal to the Lord, loving towards other people, patient, and kind. Through a matchmaker, she was introduced to Mr. Ching Lin and married him in 1946. She followed her husband and moved to Taiwan in 1949, settling in Keelung (the North Port of Taiwan). She continued her studies in Taipei Normal School and earned a Kindergarten Teaching degree. She then moved with her husband to Taitung (in east Taiwan) as a result of his job transferring. She managed their household well and they lived a frugal and happy family life. In 1960, in order to provide a better educational opportunity for their children, her husband transferred to a job in a bigger city, Taichung (the Central part of retirement. In 1996, they immigrated to the US and settled in Austin, Texas. enjoyed the time there with their grandchildren, and joined Austin Chinese Church where they frequently attended church activities and received many blessings from the Lord. Beginning in 2008, she put all of her efforts into taking care of her husband as he went through the dialysis process. The daily hot lunch she cooked for her husband really drew the attention and admiration of fellow patients as well as the medical staff. He looked the healthiest among the other dialysis patients. It was very difficult for her when her husband went home to Taiwan). She then left her comfortable teaching position and started over again in the new city. She settled for substitute teaching for a few years. She eventually got the teaching position with Taichung Methodist Church Kindergarten, where she dedicated her life to her beloved kindergarten teaching until her the Lord on 18, 2013. In an attempt to deal with her sorrow and move on from her grief, she decided to move to a Dallas Seniors Apartment in 2014 where she could have a great environment and an opportunity to learn English and Painting. Due to a severe lack of potassium and sodium, she had an accidental fall in 2015. The fall damaged her brain with internal bleeding, which caused her to stay in bed ever since. Her health condition worsened and despite some rehabilitation attempts, she did not make much improvement. Instead, the pneumonia and urinary tract infections happened multiple times which resulted in several trips in and out of the hospital. With God's mercy, she survived from these illnesses. Most recently, she went into the hospital for pneumonia and urinary tract infections under emergency care. However, due to weakness in her throat muscles, she was unable to cough out mucus and had difficulty breathing. Her lung failure eventually brought her home to the Lord on 16, 2016 after eighty-eight years of life on this Earth. She and her family appreciate the frequent visits and singing from the church brothers and sisters. These visits brought her comfort and encouragement. She always welcomed them with her biggest smile. Sister MengChin Chiang Lin and her husband raised a Christ-centered family with three sons. The eldest son Frank (Chi-Ming) and his wife Cecily (Cheng Ching) emigrated from Taiwan to Canada years ago and planted churches in the Greater Vancouver area for Evangelical Formosan Church (EFC). Frank went home to the Lord in 1999 after battling with liver cancer. The second son James (Chi-Kao) and his wife Susan (Ron En) live in Dallas, Texas and are actively involved in Dallas Chinese Fellowship Church. The yougest son Morgan (Hsu-Tung) and his wife Yuning live in Austin, Texas. , Texas and serve in Austin Chinese Church. She is also survived by six grandchildren (Pei-Yin, Lily Pei-Shiun, Joseph, Daniel C, Daniel P, and Sarah), two grandson-in-laws (Pei-Yins husband Robet Twigg, Sarahs husband David Ramer), and one great-grandson Myles (son of Pei-Yin). As we look back on her life, we can summarize it by saying she is a person who loved God and loved people. She served with zealousness and spared no effort to help others. She loved to knit sweaters and liked to make Chinese bread buns. She used these products to serve people who were in need or to give to those who helped her as a token of appreciation. Her generosity and kindness has set a good example for the younger generation. Today, she has left the family and friends who loved her dearly, but she is now reunited with her husband and eldest son in front of our gracious Lord. May she enjoy the everlasting joy there. |
