Obituary: Alison Barbara Madeira Leitao, 84, of Sun City, Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully on 13, 2015 surrounded by her family. Alison was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on 21, 1930 to Aurelius and Margaret Cramond (MacKenzie) Kincaid-Smith. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in South Africa with her older siblings Elizabeth, Jane, and Ken who all preceded her in death. She was a very proud St. Annes Diocesan girl. She loved children and became a dedicated kindergarten teacher. Alison met the love of her life,,Jose Manuel Madeira Leitao, from Mozambique who was attending college in South Africa. were married at the St. Annes Chapel on 28, 1959. the wedding they lived in Mozambique where she became proficient in Portuguese in less than six months. had three beautiful children; Margarida, Leonor, and Carlos. In 1977 the Leitao family immigrated to Austin, Texas where they lived for 20 years and raised their children. Alison would say she was born South African, became Portuguese by marriage and American by choice. When her husband retired in 1996 they moved to Florida for eight years before returning to Texas (Sun City, Georgetown) to be closer to their children. In Sun City she greatly enjoyed the stained glass club and the many friends and wonderful neighbors she had there. Alison was an avid gardener who especially loved her roses and she was a great baker known for her chocolate mousse that was always requested at every family gathering. Alison had a wonderful extended family and friends in South Africa, Portugal, and the US. Alison is survived by her husband Jose, daughter Margarida married to George W. Birge and their two beautiful children George C. (married to Kara) and Katherine, son Carlos who also gave her two beautiful granddaughters, Jordan and Laine. Alison was preceded in death by her much loved daughter, Leonor, in 2005. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Scott & White, especially her primary care physician, Dr. Jennifer L. Clark and the doctors and staff at St. Davids Rehab Georgetown. Obituary: Longtime Victoria resident, Leon Leita passed away peacefully at his home on 19, 2014 as a result of cancer, which he had been fighting for two years. He was 74 years old. Leon was born on 22, 1939 in Victoria. He graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1957. He was part of the final graduating class at Patti Welder and the initial class of Victoria High School. Upon graduating high school, Leon entered in to the United States Navy at age 17 where he moved to Southern California and proudly served his country. In the Navy, he was a naval aviation electronics technician. One of his greatest memories was working aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown. Named after the Battle of Yorktown in the American Revolutionary War, the Yorktown was part of numerous battles including the Battle of Midway. Leons ship was recommissioned in 1952 and was reclassified as an antisubmarine war aircraft carrier. He traveled to numerous parts of the world including Pearl Harbor, the South Pacific, and a trip across the equator. Upon completion of his military service, Leon returned to Texas in 1961, moving to Dallas where he worked for Texas Instruments. He and Helen married shortly thereafter. A year later, they returned to Victoria where he worked for DuPont for 36 years until he retired in 1999. All the DuPonters simply knew him as Tiger". Leon enjoyed hunting, playing dominos at Ruddocks Grocery and the American Legion as well as telling stories about his family history and days on the farm. He also enjoyed attending Texas Tech football games, his big brown recliner with his dog Skippy and riding he mule with his grandchildren. He was more than just a husband, father and grandfather. He influenced the lives of everyone he touched and will forever be on the hearts and minds of all that knew him. Leon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen Raska Leita, daughter Lynnis McCartney Leita of Victoria, and son Mark Leita and his wife Wendy of New Braunfels. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Nathan McCartney, Brittney McCartney, Madyson Leita, Karsyn Leita, and Kolby Leita, and his great grandchild, Kyle Graf. He is also survived by sister, Mildred Leita Bradley, and brother David Leita. He was loved by his numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Angelina Leita, and brother, Ervin Benjamin Leita. A viewing and rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. , 22, 2014, at Colonial . services will be conducted at St. Marys Catholic Church at 10:00 on , 22, 2014. Burial will follow at Wood Hi under the direction of Colonial . Pallbearers will be Nathan McCartney, Brian Tolle, Steve Bradley, Jack Leita, Pat Bradley, and Martin Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Leon Leita, parents Peter and Mary Annie Raska, and brother Herman Raska. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1962. graduation, she moved to Dallas with her husband Leon. returned a year later to Victoria. She spent many years working for Victoria Independent School District as a Cafeteria Manager at Guadalupe Elementary, Hopkins Elementary, and Stroman High School. Returning to her roots, she and her mother Annie began growing vegetables in a small garden. There, many people began purchasing their produce and ultimately Leita Farms was born. That farm grew to over 20 acres, selling to a broader public including Dicks Food Store. Helen enjoyed traveling, playing bunco, polka music, raising chickens, gardening, crossword puzzles, her cats and dog Beau, and even a few clogging classes. Pallbearers will be Martin Smith, Dwayne Raska, Dennis Raska, Brian Tolle, Steve Bradley, and Dale Willie. Memorials in Helens honor may be made to the American Diabetes Association. |

Obituary: On , 1, 2014 Hattie Orsak Leita, 95 of Inez (Wood-Hi) peacefully left this life to be with Our Lord in Heaven. Hattie was born in Dubina on 21, 1919 to the late Cyril J. and Frances Bolf Orsak. On May 12, 1937 she married the love of her life, Bruno J. Leita. worked hard on their farm in the Wood-Hi Community and raised nine children. Hattie was a great cook and the aroma of homemade bread baking brings back fond memories of her. When company came to the house she would serve her apple strudel, pigs in the blanket, or kolaches with a pot of coffee and a friendly game of dominoes. If you left her table hungry, it was your own fault for not making yourself at home. Hattie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inez. She was awarded Mother of the Year while a member of the Altar Society. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters Court #2475, St. Joseph Protector of Mary and the Christian Mothers. When the Nuns taught CCD at William A. Wood School, Hattie volunteered to help the children learn their prayers. She was active in the community by serving or volunteering in the 4-H Club as a leader, member of the Demonstration Club and Friendship Club in Telferner. Hattie is preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Jeanette Schumann, her brothers, C.J., Otto, Eddie, Jerry and George Orsak; her sisters, Rosie Cerny, Irene Prasek; grandsons, Bruno Roy Chippy Leita, Mark Nack and great granddaughter, Haley Singer. Survivors include her daughters, Claudine (Dwain) Franz of Weimar, Barbara Ann (David) Mitscherling, Mary Nell (David) Murray both of Victoria, Karen (Buddy) Franz of Inez; sons, B. J. Leita, Dennis (Terri) Leita, Jerry (Rhonda) Leita all of Inez, James Leita of Victoria and son-in-law, Tony Schumann of Fannin. She left behind a great legacy with twenty-six grandchildren, fifty great- grandchildren and ten great great-grandchildren. Mama was loved by us all and will be truly missed. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on , 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 17 Church Street in Inez with a rosary to be recited at 6 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Bentil officiating. Mrs. Leita will be laid to rest beside her husband, Bruno and daughter, Jeanette in St. Joseph Catholic .
