Obituary: Mary Louise Aday Layton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on 8, 2013. She spent her life dedicated in love to her husband and he to her and both were dedicated to their two sons. Mary was born in Whitesboro, TX, on 12, 1931to Dean L. and Vera Aday. She graduated from Denison High School. In 1949 and married the love of her life, James (Jim) Layton of Denison (class of 1944) on 28, 1950 at Trinity Methodist Church by Rev. W.O. Bucy. resided in Denison where their two sons, Steve and David, were born. Mary was very proud of the fact that in her early marriage she had the opportunity to work as a nurse for Dr. R. G. Gerald for several years. In 1962, they moved to Borger, TX, where Jimmy accepted the position of City Tax Assessor and Collector for the City of Borger and during his career he held the positions of Manger of Administration of Water and Data Processing Departments, Municipal Court Judge, Assistant City Manager, and ultimately appointed as City Manager retiring in 1991. Mary began her career in Borger with First National Bank retiring in 1991 as Head Teller. While in Borger Mary and Jim enjoyed social activities at the Borger Country Club and the Borger Elks Lodge and she had fond memories of the wonderful dances and parties that she and Jim enjoyed as members of the Fantasia Dance Club. Especially enjoyed, were weekend with friends, Chuck and Margaret Bogan, in Red River, New Mexico. Upon both of their retirements in 1991, they returned to Denison to be closer to family and again established themselves within the community among many friends and family. Mary loved to cook and found great joy in retirement sitting in her favorite chair reading cookbooks and finding new cake recipes that she would cook and share with family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved flowers and each Spring and Fall all her flower beds would be full of beautiful and colorful flowers. She was a gracious lady to the end. She started each day with her make up meticulously applied, her hair beautifully coifed, and always adorned to her appearance was evident even when she was busy in her kitchen. This past year when at times she was very ill she always made sure she presented herself as a true lady. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband Jim; her two sons, Steve and fiancé Karen Robertson, of Dallas, David and wife Pam of Borger; her granddaughter Kimberly of Tucson, AZ; her loving and caring sister-in-law ZoAnn Aday of Denison; her loving and caring brother-in-law Howard Minor of Broken Bow, OK; and nephews: Jeff Aday, Travis Aday, Larry Dean Minor, Lynn Minor, John Aday, Terry Aday , and Mike Aday and a host of friends. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Leroy Aday and Allen Aday and sister JoAnn Aday Minor. services will be held , 11, 2013 at 11:00 A.M., at Bratcher Chapel with burial at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Horace Groff officiating. Visitation will be , 11, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Pallbearers will be Jeff Aday, Travis Aday, Larry Dean Minor, Lynn Minor, Howard Minor, Paden Minor, Brian Powell and Dean Thompson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Guardian Hospice, The Denison Alumni Association or the charity of choice. The family gratefully acknowledges, the wonderful and tender care provided to Mary over this past year by the nurses of TMC and Guardian Hospice. |

Obituary: L.M. Layton, 96 of Dallas, Texas passed away in Rockwall, Texas on 28, 2016. He was born to William Albert Layton and Ora Irene Ainsworth Layton who precede him in death. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife Naomi; his son Larry Layton; his sister and brother-in-law Teen & Charles Barrett and his brother and sister-in-law J.H. & Elma Layton. L.M. was a long haul truck driver for many years. He enjoyed his travels and loved to take his nieces and nephew with him on the road so they could see the country. He loved to watch car racing. He was a fan of NASCAR but he especially love to watch INDY car racing. He would regularly travel to Indianapolis just to watch the races. L.M. loved family gatherings at his house. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was very patriotic. He proudly and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Left to cherish his memory is his sister Ruby Williams, brother Jack Layton & wife Jean and numerous nieces, nephews and other family loved ones and beloved friends. The family will receive guest at a visitation 6-8pm 31, 2016 at Roselawn , Seagoville, Texas. Service will be 2:00pm 1, 2016 at Roselawn . Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Seagoville, Texas. L.M. will be laid to rest beside his loving wife Naomi in the Garden of Scriptures. Military Honors will be rendered. Bro. Obituary: At age 92, James Grant Layton, went to be with our Lord when he passed away 26, 2016 in Dallas, TX. “Red” as he was known by his friends, was born in Roxton, TX, 9, 1924. He was an active member at St. John’s Episcopal Church as an usher and involved in the men’s groups and other activities for many years.He was an avid sports enthusiast and received an offer to play Major League Baseball; however WWII interrupted his dream and he joined the Navy.He was assigned to the USS Helena in early 1942 at the age of 17.The Helena participated in the naval battles around Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands.The ship was sunk in 1943, and Red with other survivors (referred as the Kula Gulf Swim Club) spent 3 days in the ocean and 10 days on an enemy held island, before being rescued. He was the only medic with the survivors and for his heroism was awarded: Asiatic Pacific campaign ribbon with 3 bronze stars, Naval Unit Commendation, Navy and Marine Corps Medal… Red is the last of his shipmates to go be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He married Helen Dorothy Layton and was married for 70 years.Dorothy and Jim moved to Dallas, TX in 1945, where he worked with the VA Hospital.He primarily focused on plastic surgery maxi facial prosthetics for wounded soldiers from the Vietnam War era. retiring he went on to apply his skills, primarily with children, at the major Dallas hospitals for more than a decade.He never forgot his love for baseball and coached little league baseball for about 25 years. He was a moral compass influencing hundreds of young men. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents Willie and Non Johnson, andsisters Angie Mundy and Othella Ross.He is survived by 3 children:James G Layton, Jr. (Vicki), Mark T Layton (Beth), and Constance B Layton. Obituary: Frances Louise Layton, 87, of Arlington received her angel wings on , the fifteenth of , 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in 1924 in Fannin , Texas to Luther and Clarice Patterson. In 1941 she met and married a handsome young soldier named William Thomas Layton. Throughout her life, Frances was able to travel extensively and their family also grew with one child born in Tyler, Texas, another born in Biloxi, Mississippi, 2 born in Aurora, Colorado, and their 5th child born in Japan. Mrs. Layton dabbled in many hobbies during her life and loved working and playing with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She knitted, sewed, quilted, painted, volunteered as both Camp Fire and Cub Scout leader, fished, slotting, traveling, gardening and finally her crossword puzzles. She is survived by Marguerite and Greg Chapman of Morrilton, Arkansas, James Howard of Cedar Hill, Rebel and Tim Long of San Angelo, Texas, William and Sue Layton of Arlington and Steven and Janet Layton of Kilgore, Texas. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, 8 siblings, her husband, William Thomas Layton, Sr and 1 daughter, Susan Marie Howard. The Captains Lady has gone home. |
