Obituary: Charles Benjamin Laughlin, age 83, passed unto the Lords Hands on , 12, 2010 in Helotes, Texas. Charles was born on 29, 1926 in Phoenix, Arizona, to parents, Charles Haworth Laughlin and Poncia Savage Laughlin. He was proud of his Native American heritage as a member of the Shawnee Tribe. He served in World War II in the Army of the United States; with the 80th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, the 82nd Airborn Division, B 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, he received the decoration of World War II Victory Medal. He married in 1948 to the love of his life LaVerne Ballard Laughlin. Charles graduated with honors from the Oklahoma Agriculture and Mechanical with a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1952. He had a career as an International Landscape Architect for 42 years. He then joined his son Steven Laughlin for a second career as owner Operator of the World Famous John T. Floor Country Store in Helotes, Texas, until they sold the family business in 2002. Charles then retired to the Life with Family, Neighbors and Friends. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-one years LaVerne Ballard Laughlin; daughter, Karen L. Easton; son, Steven R. Laughlin; 7 grandsons, Michael Calta, Ryan Easton, Aaron Easton, Kristopher Easton, Johsua Easton, Jacob Laughlin, Nicolaus Laughlin; and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Peggy Matalon; brother, Wallace Laughlin; sister, Priscilla Bouic and a number of nieces and nephews. Obituary: Betty Jean Laughlin was born in Dallas, TX on 27, 1922. The Lord called her home on 3, 2013. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and wonderful friend. Betty Jean loved to golf and was a longtime member of Glen Lakes Country Club. She loved traveling, taking long walks, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with friends and family! She always said, "I lived a great life and would not change a thing!" She is preceded in death by her father, Paul Love; her mom, Sally Chenault; her husband of 55 years, Sidney Laughlin; son, Scott Laughlin and her brother, Paul Love. Betty is survived by her son, Craig Laughlin and daughter in-law, Melinda James Laughlin; grandchildren, Tracey Gonzales, Sid Gonzales and Barry Laughlin; and her great-grandchildren, Isabelle Gonzales, Avery Laughlin, Matthew Gillespie and Daniel Gillespie. Obituary: Carol J. Laughhunn, 63, passed away 6, 2017. Carol was born 5, 1954 in Victoria to the late Andrew L. Speakerman and Margie Nitschmann Cummings. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a lifelong writer. Carol wrote and published the Crain school newspaper when she was in junior high. She also had a degree in journalism from the University of Texas, and was on the magazine and newspaper staff there. She was a writer for the Victoria Advocate from 1979-81. Even though health problems slowed her down in her last years, she kept writing for as long as possible. She wrote thousands of letters over the years to family and friends. It also meant a lot to her to help with housework as much as she could. She had a lifelong desire to serve and encourage others. Carol truly loved everyone she came into contact with. We know today she is in heaven, serving others. Carol is survived by her husband, Dan Laughhunn; sons, Isaac Laughhunn of Victoria, Rick Laughhunn of Sugarland; daughter, Jennifer Guerrero of Kyle; sister, Elizabeth Speakerman-Flores of Conroe; brother, Andy Speakerman of Rockport; grandchildren, Joseph, Josiah, Jennifer and JaeLynn Guerrero, Hannah Gomez and D.J. Hirsh-Laughhunn. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Dave Laughhunn. Visitation will be , 8, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Rosewood Chapels. services will be , 9, 2017 at 10 am at Faith Family Church. Burial will immediately follow at Memory Gardens . Obituary: The $2.00 Bill Man, James Howard Laugherty, passed away at the age of 94 on 23, 2015. Born 2, 1920 in Knoxville Tennessee where he later joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. (CCC) and helped build a road and a park in the Great Smokey Mountains in which he took great pride. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he met and married his beloved wife Freda in Egypt while she was serving as a nurse in the South African Army. 20 years of service, he retired from Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX where he worked on the Nike Ajax Missile Systems and where he will receive military internment. He was loved by all who knew him and were recipients of his vast kindness, wisdom, and generosity. He greatly enjoyed giving out $2.00 bills with their history to people of all ages so they could share in his love of collecting coins and currency. He was preceded in death by his wife Freda and son David. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Coberly and son-in-law William Coberly. Grand and Great grandchildren: Sabra, Richard, Heather, Richard, Shane, Angie, Jason, Lawrence, Justin, Alex, Christopher, Daphne, Abby. Close family: Dez, Paul, and Nadine of South Africa. Obituary: On 19, 2015 at the age of 99, Chloe Thorp Laugherty's journey ended here on earth.. She was born on 26, 1916 in Blanket, Texas to Annie and Leonard Bird. Chloe grew up in Blanket, among two brothers and one sister. Tragically another sister Gladys died before Chloe was born. Chloe attended Howard Payne University and received the honor of Best All Around Athlete. She was also a basketball referee for many of the schools around Brownwood. In 1939, Chloe transferred to Texas Womens University where she graduated with a BS in Economics and began her teaching career in Ballinger Texas. In 1940 she married Charles Walker Thorp of Ballinger, Texas. Charles volunteered for the Army and Chloe followed him to Camp Rucker Alabama, and there she became a dietician and then a medical technician. When Charles left for the Pacific Chloe returned home to Blanket to live with her parents and sister and became a lab technician at Brownwood Medical Arts Hospital. When Charles returned from the Pacific he joined Humble Oil. Chloe and Charles raised their family in West Texas. Their daughters, Mikey and Janis attended Jr. High and High School in Abilene Texas. Chloe taught Economics for thirty-five years while in Texas and spent much of her free time playing golf with Charles and attending her daughters band and theater performances. Later in Charles career and after Chloes retirement they transferred to Oklahoma. Chloe filled her time working at a small boutique, and making life-long friends. One of Charles last transfers was when he was on loan from Exxon to Esso in London England. lived in Woking, England for two years. Chloe flew the American flag everyday and introduced the neighborhood kids to the American lunches of peanut and jelly sandwiches. In retirement they lived a full social and energetic life in Runaway Bay golfing community outside of Ft. Worth. Chloe and Charles have two daughters, Mikey and her husband Ret. Col. James D. Herndon of Austin, and Janis and her husband Marshall Durham, Jr., of New Braunfels, grandchildren, Tiffany Durham, Kim Durham and Rob Mendiola, and Trace Durham and his wife Sharon. Chloes true joys in life are her five great-grandchildren Marshall, Braden, and Bennett Durham, and Chloe and Carlos Mendiola all of San Antonio. Chloe also has two step-grandchildren James V. Herndon and his wife Junnette, and Blake and his wife Cindy Herndon. Chloe moved to Austin after losing Charles to Leukemia in 1990. had been married three months shy of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. She was later married to Loyd Laugherty and they have resided in Austin and traveled the world. Chloe was a volunteer for Ronald McDonald House for fifteen years. She was a member of Riverbend Church and could be seen wearing a hat to services. Chloe was always the best dressed and accessorized person in every room. To stay active she attended Water Aerobics at the YMCA, continued to sew-making curtains for her granddaughters home and even challenged herself to learn to play the auto harp. She is preceded in death by husband Charles Walker Thorp, brothers T.C. Bird and his wife Helen, Roy Bird and his wife Mary, and sisters Gladys, and Maurine and her husband W. C. Underwood, and parents Annie and Leonard Bird. Chloe leaves a legacy of always caring for her neighbors and would host British Tea Parties to the neighborhood girls. Chloe was the first one to care for friends and loved ones in their times of need. Being a friend was what she did best and she never failed to make a stranger her friend. Chloe could get a persons whole life story in one elevator ride. She has lived a wonderful life and left people she meets always wanting to be her friend whether they are young or old.
