Obituary: Lewis Edwin Loftis, Sr. (4/27/26 - 2/2/10) Ed Loftis was born at home on 27, 1926 in Bloomington Springs, Tennessee. At age 9, the Loftis family moved to Crossville, Tennessee, becoming one of 251 families granted land as part of the Cumberland stead community. Ed spent the rest of his youth on the stead in Crossville and attended the stead High School. graduating from high school, Ed moved to Nashville and married the love of his life, Lucy Marie (Bunny) Beasley on 16, 1944. Two short weeks later, on 3, 1944 he was inducted into the army and soon saw combat duty in the Rhineland Theatre as part of the 1st Platoon, H , 345th Infantry Division of General George Pattons army. He received the following citations and decorations upon his honorable discharge from the army on 24, 1946, American Theatre Service Medal, EAME Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Ed owned and operated Loftis Tire and Supply as a Gulf Oil Corporation Jobber and successor companies for 50 years. He retired in 1991. Ed was a founding member of the West Nashville Civitan Club. He was an active member of the West End Church of Christ for more than 55 years, serving as a deacon and elder for 17 of those years. The fellowship and Christian community of the West End Church of Christ was a source of great strength and inspiration for Ed and Bunny. Ed founded the Music City Cloggers during the 80s and enjoyed many years of clogging and square dancing. He also enjoyed a variety of sports, participated and medaled in the Sr. Olympics. He was a long-time judge at the annual Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree in Dekalb . More recently, he enjoyed working out and taking guitar lessons at the East Nashville Community . Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Lola Fox Loftis and Nathan Barlett Loftis, loving wife of 62 years Lucy Marie Beasley Loftis, and sister Clarada Sherrill. He is survived by his sister, Wanda Barker; sons, Ronald Edwin Loftis (Anne), Robert Lloyd Loftis (Linda), Thomas Nathan Loftis, Sr. (Babs Freeman-Loftis), Lewis Edwin Loftis, Jr.; grandchildren: Russel Loftis, Jeffrey Robinson (Marie), Scott Robinson (Elizabeth), Beckie Stokes (Stuart), Sara Saeger, Eric Merriman , Nathan Loftis, Matthew Loftis, Maggie Loftis, Alexandria Biggs (Jeffrey), Amanda Loftis, Ashley Loftis, Randy Loftis; great-grandchildren Calab Saeger, Becca Sager, Ian Merriman , Joshuah Robinson, Zachariah Robinson and Josephine Biggs; and adoring pet, Honey Bunny. The family would like to thank his caregiver Edie Sweeney for her loving kindness, and his many friends from the West End Church of Christ, especially Dot Chitwood. Obituary: Miss Richard Kinnard Loftin, 108, former longtime resident of Fourth Avenue, died , 3, 2015 at McKendree . services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Frank Smith and Reverend Chip Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill . Family and friends will visit from 1:30 – 2:30 P.M. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury native was the daughter and youngest of eight children of the late Wesley Walker Loftin and Mary Ophelia Kinnard Loftin. She was an honor graduate of the 1928 Class of Columbia Central High School and attended Columbia Business . Miss Loftin was a retired banker, having been the third female bank officer in Nashville. During her career she was listed in Marquis Whos Who of American Women in Business and also Whos Who of Southern Women in Business. During World War II, she was employed by the Selective Service System as Chief Clerk of Maury Board No. 1. moving to McKendree Manor in Nashville several years ago, she still retained her membership in First United Methodist Church in Columbia, having joined 1, 1923. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, Ayers Whitney School Class, and was very active with church services at McKendree Manor while living there. She is survived by one niece, Ann Loftin Phoenix of Columbia; great nephew, Robert Walker Loftin of Atlanta, Georgia; and very devoted caregiver, Linda Murphy. She was preceded in death by sisters, Harriet Loftin, Ethel Loftin Gipson, Mary Louise Loftin, Sarah Lee Loftin, Margaret Loftin; brothers, Harry Walker Loftin and John Wesley Loftin; very devoted niece, Mary Harding Loftin Wilson; nephew, Dr. Marion Walker Loftin; and great niece, Anita Loftin Ward. |

Obituary: LOFTIN, Edna, age 100, passed away on 28, 2012. She is predeceased by her husband Tinsla Loftin. Survived by her son Jerry Loftin and numerous nieces and nephews. Edna was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She enjoyed teaching children’s School and volunteering at all of the church functions. Obituary: JAMES RICHARD LOFT, 82, of Bartlett passed away , 20, 2015 at Methodist Hospital Germantown. He was retired from Grace Chemical and from Arcadian Corporation in Memphis. He was a member of Bartlett Hills Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by sisters, Melba Payne and Alma Long. He is survived by daughter Lisa Payne (Barry) of Arlington, sons Mark Loft (Greta) of Memphis, and Bruce Loft (Lee) of Bartlett; sisters Mary Childress of Millington, Bettye Court of Bartlett, and Pat Pittman of Horn Lake; brothers Lowrey Loft of Millington and Phil Loft of Friendship; and seven grandchildren.
