Obituary: Helen Loraine Lay, age 84 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on ( 2, 2015) after an extended illness. Helen was born to the late Bert & Eulah Alvis on 9, 1931 in Hawkins , Tennessee. Helen worked at Holston Valley Medical in the lab for many years, and Northeast State, later retiring after 20 years of service. Helen was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for many years. Helen was a member of Beulah Baptist Church for the past 40 years, where she served many of those years as Choir Director. Helen loved her Lord, her family, and her church with all of her heart. In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by two brothers, Sonny (Bert Jr.) Alvis and Sheryl Alvis. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Jake David (J.D.) Lay, Jr.; son, Steve L. Lay & wife Rita; grandson, Matthew S. Lay & wife Stephanie; granddaughter, Jessica L. Brickey & husband Jason; four great-grandchildren, Caleb Lay, Hannah Lay, Straley Brickey, and Isabelle Brickey; special pet, Annie; and a host of friends. The family will greet guests and share memories on , ( 5, 2015) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn . services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn with Pastor Al South officiating. Entombment will be on , ( 6, 2015) at 10:30 a.m. in the Mausoleum II at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Lay, Jason Brickey, Toby Lett, Josh Olinger, David Jessee, Andy Coffman, and Caleb Lay. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at NHC care of Kingsport; and a special thank you to Peggy McKnight. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Beulah Baptist Church (c/o building fund) 491 Beulah Church Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.
