Obituary: Wallace Wellington "Wally" Langston, age 78, of Vestavia Hills, AL passed away , 26, 2015. He was born and raised in the Birmingham, AL area and lived here most of his life. A U.S. Air Force Veteran, Wally was predeceased by his parents, Frankie and Velma Langston; wife, Karen Langston; two sisters, Doris Bearden and Birdie Strong; and one brother, Ed Langston. Survivors include Wally's three sons, Danny Endress, Butch Langston, and Andy Langston (Cristine); two daughters, Cherri Chase (Stan) and Cynthia Bastida; one sister, Sue Bigham; one brother, Jim Langston; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Obituary: LANGSTON, THOMAS EARL "TOMMY," 89, passed away on 24, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. on , 28, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage in Pelham, immediately followed by the 2 p.m. Celebration of Tommy's Life in Ridout's Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. Rev. Don Campbell will officiate. The private graveside service will be later at Montevallo . Tommy grew up in Centreville, Alabama, and graduated from Bibb High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, spending much of his time in the South Pacific. Following his time in the service, he attended the University of Alabama, where he received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Management. his love for his family, Tommy's real passion was photography. He worked as a photojournalist for The Birmingham Post Herald newspaper for 38 years, during which time he received numerous United Press and Associated Press awards. Tommy's most notable photo was taken in Birmingham during the civil rights movement. On Mother's Day 1961, he captured a picture of more than a dozen unmasked Ku Klux Klansmen, armed with lead pipes and chains, attacking a Freedom Rider at the old Trailways bus station. Realizing that they had just been caught on film, the angry mob turned on Tommy and beat him severely as well. Although his camera was destroyed by the Klansmen, the film had not been exposed and the picture was developed. The photo was published in papers around the world and was later nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Tommy was a member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham. Survivors include Tommy's wife of 54 years, Tommie; one son, Stephen A. Langston of Birmingham; one daughter, Kathy L. Adkins of McCalla; and one grandson, Kevin Adkins of McCalla. Survivors also include three sisters-in-law, Joyce Langston of Mobile, Lola Newsom (Bill) of Calera, and Bobbie Peete of Montevallo; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation for the exceptional care given and kindness shown by Phyllis Starnes and Vitas Hospice . |

Obituary: Richard Rick Thomas Langston - a 46 year-old native and lifelong resident of Mobile passed away on , 7, 2010, at his home. He received a Bachelors Degree in Biochemistry from the University of South Alabama and an M.B.A. from Auburn University. Rick was employed as a chemist and production engineer for Huntsman Corporation for over 20 years. He worked as a high school recruiter, primarily in football and basketball, for 14 years, most notably for Auburn University, the University of Florida, and L.S.U. Rick worked with the National Scouting Report as a recruiting scout for the past seven years. He volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and served as a math tutor for the Alabama Department of Corrections. Rick was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed renovating homes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Betty Langston. Rick is survived by two brothers, Jim Langston and his wife, Anita, of Wendell, NC and Billy Langston of Mobile; nephew, Kenny Langston and family; three nieces, McHaney, Kim Langston, and Jennifer Anderson and their families; other relatives and friends. Obituary: Judy Scott Langston ( 11, 1954 \ 22, 2014) Judy Scott Langston, 60, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and grandmother was called home by the Lord on 22, 2014. She was a life-long resident of Birmingham, AL. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Scott and is survived by her father Harold Scott, both of Alabaster. Judy is also survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Larry Langston, Birmingham; son Scott Langston (Angela), Gardendale; daughter Lisa Langston, Birmingham and two grandchildren Brooks and Grayson Langston. She is also survived by her sister, Gay Lawson (Bob), Douglasville, GA; niece Ashlie Brooks (Andrew), Kennesaw, GA; a great niece Lawson Brooks and a great nephew Drew Brooks. She was loved deeply by her aunt Joyce Runyan of Huntsville. Judy was a graduate of Erwin High School and went on to pursue and graduate from Auburn University with a degree in Accounting. During her time at Auburn she met the love of her life, Larry, and from there they started their lives together. As a mother she was dedicated to all the activities that Scott and Lisa were a part of. From the baseball park to the football field, then to the dance competition and cheerleading events, she never missed a practice, performance or a game. When she wasn running wide open she loved spending time camping, boating, and relaxing in the hammock with a good book in hand and a box fan at her feet. While at the lake she prided herself with her ability to teach Ashlie, Scott, Lisa and Brooks all how to water ski and love it. With her first born grandson Brooks, Judy was at all baseball, football and basketball events just like she was with her children. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Visitation will be held , 24, 2014; at Ridouts Trussville Chapel from 5:30-7:30pm, with the funeral service held , 25, 2014; at Ridouts at 11:00am, along with a graveside service at Forest Crest in Irondale. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Kidney Foundation. |
