Obituary: Donald Scott Lyons, 40, of Cajahs Mountain, passed away unexpectedly May 11, 2021 while working in Baxley, Georgia. Mr. Lyons was born on 2, 1980 in Burke to Linda Branch Adams and husband Clyde; and Donald Lee Burns (Dad). He worked in construction for Reid Fabrications. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Aeriana Elizabeth Lyons. Surviving in addition to his parents are four brothers, Michael Lyons and wife Donna, Adam Lyons and wife Rebecca, Paul Lyons and Nathan Burns; his step father Allen Lyons and wife Sandra; his step siblings, Melissa Adams Marcus, Rebecca Adams Cleckner and Joshua Allen Adams, Connie Anderson , Donnie Anderson; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and his canine companion Zeus. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. May 17, 2021 in the Chapel of Heritage Service, with Rev. Danny Honeycutt and Rev. Kevin Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Memorial Gardens in Connelly Springs. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Heritage Service in Valdese. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven of Rest Ministries, P.O. Box 314 Hudson, NC 28638. |

Obituary: Lt Col Clarence Jay Lyons, Jr (USAF-ret), 88 died 26th JUN at the North Carolina Veterans in Black Mountain, NC. Jay was the son of Clarence Jay (a former Mayor of Childress) and Marcella Agnes Blalack Lyons, Sr, and was born 22 JAN 1928 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Moving to Childress in 1939, Jay became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Childress High school in 1945 and joined the Navy CB's at the close of WWII where he spent almost 2 years stationed on Adak in the Aleutian Islands. Returning to Texas Jay entered John Tarleton in 1948, transferring to the Agricultural & Mechanical of Texas with a degree in Wildlife Management and graduating in 1951. That year he was commissioned a 2nd Lt, beginning a 20 year career in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1971 a Lt Colonel. Jay then worked for the Texas Aeronautics commission, Texas Department of Aviation, Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1993. Jay married Mildred Modena Morris on 03 OCT 1953 in Childress, Texas they have four children, Mark Reed (and Arlene) of Kuwait, Kirk David (and Brenna) of Black Mountain, NC, Matthew Jay of Los Angeles, CA & Karol Kimmayne of Black Mountain, NC 11 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren. Modena died in 1997, Jay spent his retirement years as an active volunteer docent at the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry, a vestryman at Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, and a member of the George Washington Littlefield Camp #59, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Austin Civil war Round Table. Jay moved to Black Mountain with his daughter, Karol, in 2011. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held 29 JUN 2016 at Lakey Gap Presbyterian Church at 11AM. Memorial donations may be made to the Southern Legal Resource at www.slrc-csa.org. A memorial service will also be conducted in Austin, his home for 40 years, place and time to be announced.
