Obituary: David Todd Lewis, 49 of New Bern, passed away on , 26, 2015 at CarolinaEast Medical . Todd is survived by his parents, George and Lila Lewis, two beautiful daughters; Olivia Lewis and Abbi Morgan, and one sister Lisa L. Kirkhart (Kevin,) all of New Bern. Todd was employed at Hatteras Yachts. He was a fun loving beach goer, who enjoyed about anything to do with the water. He was a great father, son, brother and friend who will be truly missed. Obituary: David McLeod Lewis, 68, joined his Lord and Savior on , 3, 2015 after a courageous 5-month battle with brain cancer. He was born 1, 1947 in Raleigh to the late Dorothy Dillon McLeod and David Graham McLeod. his fathers passing and his mothers remarriage, he was adopted by the late Hubert Red Murry Lewis of Durham. David was pre-deceased by his first wife, Linda Kelly Lewis. David is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Candice Horton Lewis; daughter, Catherine Lewis Walsh, and husband Jason of Fuquay; and son, Cameron Murry Lewis, and wife Katie, with grandchildren, Cameron, Daniel and Lydia of Asheville. He leaves his sister, Annie Lee Hansen, and husband Gary, and nephews, David and Gary; his father-in-law, Willis Benjamin Horton, and mother-in-law, Pauline Young Horton; and special family member, Carolyn Upchurch, all of Raleigh. David was Vice-President of the family business, Dillon Supply , where he started working at the age of fourteen. He also owned and operated a franchise of Voice-Tel in Charleston, South Carolina. For the past 13 years, David and Candy have enjoyed selling real estate together for York Simpson & Underwood. David was a lifelong Duke fan and Iron Dukes member. He has served on many boards, some of which include the Tammy Lynn , Camp Oak Hill and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. David served in the US Army Reserves, was a member of the Terpsichorean Club and was an avid member of the YMCA. An opportunity that brought him great joy was donating bone marrow, blood and platelets. David played basketball for Durham High School when his team played in the State Championships in 1965. His claim to fame was holding Pete Maravich to 36 points when Durham played Broughton (Pete was averaging 50-55 points a game!). high school, David attended and played basketball at Methodist in Fayetteville. He was also an accomplished runner and golfer. An active member of the Carolina Country Club, he was the Mens Golf Champion in 1977, 1988, and 1989. Not only did David love sports but he also enjoyed all flavors of ice cream and had a great fondness for animals, especially their family dog and cat. David loved his family. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father and father-in-law, and loving and caring grandfather. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and the brothers and sisters he came to know through shared faith. David found great joy in his involvement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. For over thirty years, he found great purpose and satisfaction as a group leader in Bible Study Fellowship and in Johnny Evans Night Bible study. He loved praising the Lord and sharing the gospel and Gods Word with others. David was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and taught youth School. Many years ago, he started a daily e-mail devotional for a small Bible study group which has grown into a ministry touching the hearts of thousands. He had a genuine love for people and loved helping others work through their challenges. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on , 10, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608 with visitation to follow in the Jane Bell Gathering Space. For those unable to attend the service, internet streaming is available at www.whitememorial.org. A private graveside service for the family will precede the memorial service. The family would like to thank the staff at Transitions Life for their gentle and loving care of David the last two weeks of his life as well as family and friends who have come alongside them throughout this difficult journey.
