Obituary: Edward Joseph Lewandowski, 85, of Charlotte, formerly of Buffalo, New York, died , 4, 2011, at Carolinas Medical -University. Born in Sloan, NY, he was the son of Walter and Stella Lewandowski. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Lewandowski entered the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving with the 7th Air Force as Navigator on B29 airplanes in Hawaii, during World War II. the War, he served with the 20th Air-Sea Rescue in Guam, Saipan and Tinian, dropping supplies to U.S. prisoners in Japanese P.O.W. camps. Mr. Lewandowski retired from Westinghouse in Buffalo, NY, where he worked for 35 years as an Electrical Engineer. He and his wife, Frieda, relocated to Charlotte in 1984, where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer with Powertron/Baldor for 10 years. He loved the challenge to repair all sorts of electrical and mechanical objects, or to make things easier for his family. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Alfreda; daughters, Patricia (William Chapman) Lewandowski of Alden, NY, and Elaine (Kenneth) Mills of Lawrenceville, NJ; and son, Paul (David) Lawrence of Atlanta, GA; and grandsons, Kendall and Kyle Mills. Ed is also survived by his sister, Ann (Richard) Rogalski of Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews in New York, Texas, Ohio and Washington. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Francis and Henry, and sister, Marie. Visitation will be , 7, from 7-9 pm, McEwen Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC. A Mass will be celebrated , 8, at 2:00 pm, St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Rd., Charlotte, NC. A light reception will follow at the Church. Additional service and burial will be in Lancaster, NY. Memorials may be made to the Holy Angels, 6600 Wilkinson Blvd., P.O. Box 710, Belmont, NC 28012. Obituary: Eva Hughes Lewallen, 90, of Thomasville, passed away May 4, 2010. She was born 6, 1920 in Randolph to the late Walter Reid and Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Parrish Hughes. She attended Trinity School and was a member of the Fairgrove Demonstration Club and the Trinity Grange. She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir for many years and also a member of the United Ladies School Class. She retired from Belk in Thomasville. She was married to the late Reginald Fred Lewallen on 25, 1947 in Asheville, NC where they spent many family vacations with their children and grandchildren. had two children, a son, the late Kenneth Reid Lewallen and wife Leona, and a daughter, Martha Marti L. Anderson and husband Frank. In addition to her parents, husband and son, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Hughes and Max Hughes; two sisters, Lois Hughes and Fay Loflin. Surviving are her grandchildren; Norm Anderson and wife Gail, Sandy Lackey and husband Brad, Beth Kennedy and husband Michael, Karen DePolo and husband Mike; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Anderson, Emory Anderson, Lucas Kennedy, Eva Claire Anderson, Byerly Kennedy, Carter Anderson and Layla DePolo. Special friends that meant a lot to Eva were Frances Miller Rash, Carolyn Miller Plaxco, Susan Miller Medlin and Henry Miller. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She spent most of her life creating wonderful memories for her family through her cooking, sewing, and travels. The family will receive friends , May 6, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Thomasville . A Service will be held at 10:00 AM , May 7 at Liberty Baptist Church in Thomasville with Reverend David Bowman officiating, followed with Interment at Westfield Baptist Church in Trinity.
