Obituary: Edward S. Lane, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 13, 2015. He was born on 3, 1938, in a, Georgia, to the late Edward S. Lane, Sr. and Dorothy Green Lane. He met the love of his life, formerly Karen Veronica Metz, over fifty years ago when she was attending Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, and he was a USAF second lieutenant at a nearby B-52 base. Following high school Mr. Lane was selected as a USAF Aviation Cadet and received his wings and commission at Harlingen AFB, Texas. During his Air Force career he held numerous squadron, wing and headquarters positions as a senior staff officer, squadron commander and instructor in B-52 and FB-111 aircraft. While on active duty he completed BS and MBA degrees. He also completed intermediate and senior officer service colleges at the Air University, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. During the Vietnam War, he served as operations staff officer at U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand. Mr. Lane retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel at age forty and began his second career with Lockheed-Martin as an advanced systems engineer on special operations, C-130 aircraft. He then worked for Northrop-Grumman on the B-2, Stealth Bomber program as a lead engineer in the advanced systems avionics division. He later returned to and retired from Lockheed-Martin as an engineering program manager. He subsequently worked as a Merrill Lynch stockbroker and bank officer. Following his retirement and his wife Karen's retirement, as a public school teacher after 31 years of service, they moved from California to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2006, to be nearer their close and extended families in the region. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Karen Metz Lane; their children: Sunny Lane Walters along with her husband, Mark Donald Walters, of Wake Forest, North Carolina; Daniel Edward Lane of Raleigh, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Danielle and Kylan; his brother Jeffrey Victor Lane of Yakima, Washington; and many relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Mitchell , Raleigh, NC on , May 21, 2015 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm with services beginning at 2:00pm and interment following at Raleigh Memorial Park. wards the family will receive relatives and friends for refreshments back at Mitchell . Obituary: Edward Buck Lane, 81, died on , May 22, 2011. Born in Hertford, NC, the son of John and Elsie (Jordan) Lane, he was a longtime resident of Cary, NC. Ed is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betsy Miller Lane of Cary, NC; four children, Dawn Lane Evans (Craig) of Exton, PA, Faith Lane Johnson (John) of Etowah, NC, Brent Lane (Deborah Watts) of Holly Springs, NC, and Hope Lane of Rockville, MD; daughter-in-law Robin G. Lane of Morrisville, NC; grandchildren, Sarah, Molly, Ali, Alexandria, Aubrie, Ben, Walker and Ad; and great-grandson, Landon. serving in the Army stationed in Germany, Ed returned with his young family to North Carolina in 1955. That year he began his 31 year career as an educator and coach first at Spring Hope High School and then in 1956 at Cary Senior High School. coaching the Imps to many winning seasons in several sports, Ed had the opportunity to educate a younger audience, serving as the first Principal at the newly-built Henry Adams Elementary School from its opening in 1969 until his retirement in 1987. An avid fisherman, Ed explored any waterway he encountered, usually while spending countless hours patiently untangling the wayward fishing lines of his children. During his 20+ years of retirement he and his sweet Betsy traveled the continent from Costa Rica to Alaska, wintering over many years camping in Florida. His prolific gardening provided the ideal backdrop for playing with his grandchildren. Ed and Betsy continued to enjoy living at their Cary home until his death with the loving help of their great friends Erica Wise and Patricia Saroury. Ed finished his "last season" strongly, teaching by his gentle example to the final bell. He is being fondly remembered by the many friends and students he influenced, proving that he truly lived his motto: "Better than the Best". Please join his family and friends in a celebration of Eds life to be held at 3 p.m. on , 2nd at the First Baptist Church of Cary at 218 South Academy Street.
