Obituary: Edward R. Leibe, 87, of Mercerville, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home on , May 26, 2017. Ed was born on 5, 1930 to Edward and Catherine Leibe in Irvington, NJ and was educated in the public schools. He was a veteran of four years in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home from Korea, he entered the New Jersey State Police Academy in 1952. It was during the summer of 52 that he met Barbara Lee Newbauer. The couple married in 1953 and began their married life in West Orange, NJ, and permanently moved to Mercerville, NJ, in 1967, where they raised their four children, Linda Kregloski, Lauren Adams Hooker, Lisa Ryerson, and Eddie Leibe. On 30, 1953, Ed graduated from the New Jersey State Police Academy and became a Trooper, assigned to Troop B (North Jersey) and Troop E (Parkway). Ed was selected to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he graduated from the Traffic Institute Police Administration Program in 1967. He returned to Division Headquarters and was assigned to the Planning Bureau and then the Traffic Bureau as a non-commissioned officer, where he was instrumental in initiating and implementing the helicopter program. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1968 and Sergeant First Class in 1971. In 1971, he was detached for service and assigned to the Division of Motor Vehicles where he served until 1975. During that time, he was promoted to Lieutenant, responsible for the development and administration of federally funded traffic safety programs for New Jersey Police Departments through the Office of Highway Safety. In 1975, he became the first Supervisor of the Divisions new Promotional Systems Unit. Three years later he became Captain and was named Assistant Administrative Officer and served as Budget Officer responsible for the Divisions fiscal procedures. In 1981, Ed was promoted to the rank of Major and was detached from the NJSP when Colonel Clinton Pagano assigned him to the Division of Motor Vehicles as the Assistant Director of the Office of Internal Audit and Fraud Control. The unit was formed in 1981 and designed to ensure fiscal control and audit integrity. In 1985, he retired from the New Jersey State Police and took a position as Director of the NJ Parole Board. Ed was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who welcomed with great joy each of his 13 grandchildren, Christopher Kregloski, Emily Krutsch, Bridget, Rachel, and Eddie Adams, Christine, Maggie, Nicole, and Genna Ryerson, Giacomo, Bronwen, Nora and Oscar Leibe; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Caleb Krutsch. Eds beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Barbara, passed away on 19, 2017. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at the New Jersey State Police Museum Memorial Garden at Division Headquarters, West Trenton, NJ, at a later date.
