Obituary: Dominique Lowell, 1960-2017 The irrepressible and wildly talented Dominique Lowell - actor, poet, author, teacher, performance artist, mother - sometimes called The Janis Joplin of the Spoken Word - will be memorialized at Cranbrook Educational Community, where she was director of the Cranbrook Theatre School. The memorial will be held outdoors at Cranbrooks Greek Amphitheater , 4, at 7 p.m. Dominique had immersed herself in theater - writing, acting, directing and producing --around the U.S. and in Europe for 39 years. She died 10. She is survived by her son MSU student Elijah Lowell, her mother Amy Lowell, her brother Bradford Lowell with wife Melissa Andrade and daughter Sofia , and loving step-family Judy Rose, Christy Rose and Corinne Rose. Her father is the late journalist Jon Lowell. Friends have started a Go Fund Me account toward Elijah Lowells college expenses. https://www.gofundme.com/support-for-eli In Michigan, Dominique performed at Meadowbrook Theatre, the Williamston Theatre, Shakespeare in Detroit, Planet Ant Theatre and the Michigan Shakespeare Festival. At the Jewish Ensemble Theater, she performed a one-woman show as TV personality Dr. Ruth in Becoming Dr. Ruth. With the Magenta Giraffe Theatre, she directed Romeo and Juliet in an all-inmate cast at the Womens Huron Valley Correctional Facility as part of the theaters Shakespeare in Prison Project. In California, she performed her poetry at the Bay Area Book Festival and other such well-known venues as Beyond Baroque, Stories Books and Gorkys. In New York she was featured with the Music Journal Convention and the Bowery Poetry Club. Internationally, she performed at alternative music and literature festivals in Berlin and Heidelberg, Germany, at the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe in Scotland, and events in Amsterdam and London. She was a founding member of the Brecht Ensemble in Ann Arbor. In Los Angeles she was a founding member of Als National Theater. The anthology The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry includes four of her poems, which, its worth noting, is more than Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs or Leonard Cohen. Her published books of poetry include Pile and Noise. Her work is also in the New American Underground Poetry, Vol. I, the CD Compilation LIP, in Revival: Spoken Word From Lollapalooza and SLAM! Loving husband of 66 years to Margaret (Peg), father of Dana (Donna) and Gary (Jane) Proud Grandfather of Garrett, Michele, Shannon, Brett and Matthew (Elizabeth) and Great Grandfather of AnnaBelle Lofquist and Robert Carl Lowell. Carl was born in Portland, Maine on 17, 1928, after graduation from the Hinkley School in Hinkley Maine, he attended Northeastern University during which he proudly served in the Army and was in combat in the Korean War as an infantry man. his honorable discharge from the Army, Carl then graduated from Northeastern University where he received his Bachelors Degree. He was married to Margaret (Peg) on May 12, 1951, they enjoyed 66 years of marriage taking them from Boston, to Dayton, Ohio and then to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Carl worked in sales for NCR and was a member of the Masons in Boston, Massachusetts. He had a passion for golf and wood working and was a Trustee and Usher for St. Paul United Methodist Church. In Lieu of flowers, donation will be accepted for St.Paul United Methodist Church and The Hinkley School. Russell was a veteran of the US Army, and retired from General Motors in 1991 after 26 ½ years of service. He loved fishing and camping. He was very talented with his wood working and did several craft shows. Russell was preceded in death by his son Richard Lowe.
