Obituary: Penny Lord was born Pauline Eve Macaluso on 23, 1928. Her father said she brought about the Depression.
She grew up in a faith-filled Italian home in Brooklyn, New York. Her Father was a civil servant. Her mother worked on a sewing machine in one of the many clothing factories in New York. She had two brothers who were both older than she. both considered her the brat of the family. Not true; not true.
She attended a local public school in Brooklyn, and when the family moved to Richmond Hills in Queens , she went to Richmond Hills High School. She excelled in that school, was a member of the Arista Society, which were all the brains, an honor she took very seriously all her life. When she graduated, she received as many awards possible for one student that year.
She had plans to attend a University in Chicago to study law, but because she graduated in mid-year, , she went to Davis and Elkins in Elkins, West Virginia for six months.
She met Bob Lord on her birthday, 23. She has always said it was her best birthday present. were both in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She was playing a role made famous by Penny Singleton. Our Penny liked the name, and took it as her own. fill in love, married, and were best friends and lovers for the rest of their lives.
The suffered the death of their son in 1971, from an overdose of drugs. were both angry with God for letting this happen. all, they were good Catholics; they all went to Church on . He went to a good Jesuit High School. had embraced a group of juvenile delinquents in the Malibu Hills of California, who may have introduced their son to drugs. left the Church after his death for four years. On 1, 1975, Feast of the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Spirit inspired Bob to go back to Church. Penny was still angry with Jesus, but she went back with Bob because thats what they always did, follow each other. On May 23, 1975, they went on a Marriage Encounter weekend in Santa Barbara, California, thats when their lives changed forever. Penny reconciled with Jesus. Bob and Penny found a new way of life through the Church.
As a part of their newfound love for the Church, the Lord directed them to take a pilgrimage the Holy Land and Europe. It was more like a tour of holy places, but put in their hearts a great desire to seek out and venerate the various shrines of the Catholic Church, especially ones that had to do with Miracles of the Eucharist.
started bringing their own pilgrimages overseas; it was very successful. Penny provided the love and Bob was the eternal tour guide. It was very successful until terrorism broke out in the Middle guide. People stayed away from the pilgrimage places, especially the Holy Land. had invested all their savings into a Travel Agency, Catalogs, and advertising. Things looked bad.
Penny said the Lord told them not to worry. had a treasure. Bob responded with Will you ask him what the treasure is? We can make our mortgage payment. She insisted they had a treasure. Shortly thereafter, she told him the Lord wanted Bob to write a book on the Miracles of the Eucharist. had never written or published anything before. Penny locked Bob in a cubby hole in their office and told him to write. He could only come out for meals and potty breaks. She and their daughter Luz Elena fought off the bill collectors with one hand, and sought out potential publishers for the book they were writing. She became the editor from Hell!
The book was very successful, but it never would have happened without Penny. So in effect, she began her writing career with that first book that they really co-wrote. that, they co-wrote 25 books on the Catholic Faith over a period of 26years. It was that first book that brought them to the attention of Catholic Television through Mother Angelica and the Eternal Word Television Network in Birmingham, Alabama. had their first interview with Mother Angelica in of 1986, and the following year began making television series on their books. have been on the network 5 days a week for the last 26 years, and continued to be shown, the closing message We Love You came from Penny.
During her career, she co-hosted over 200 television programs which are shown on EWTN to this day. It has been said that on their programs and lectures, Penny said all things of the heart. Bob was always involved in the facts of a program of subject. This carried out throughout their entire career as authors, lecturers and television hosts. That was the way she was. Bob always considered Penny his showcase.
In the year 2000, the Lord inspired her to build Holy Family Mission in Morrilton, Arkansas, on 83 acres of land donated by Marie and William Freyaldenhoven. have added a replica of the Holy House of Loreto and a Retreat on the property.
Penny always wanted to write books about meaningful subjects, their life together in the early days of their writing, in We Came Back to Jesus and The Journey and the Dream, and their last book together, Heroes- Popes in Hard Times, which dealt with enemies like Napoleon, Hitler, Mussolini and the like. These books were very important to Penny. dealt with her life with her husband Bob, and the heart of our Church.
In 2004, Penny and Bob were inducted into Whos Who in America. Penny and Bob were given the prestigious Poverello Award, the highest award given by Franciscan University at Steubenville, in , 2001. were also given a special award by the Polish Film Festival for a documentary they did on St. Maxmillian Kolbe.
Penny is continued...

Obituary: Bob Lord, of Morrilton, Arkansas, was born on 9, 1935 at the Hunts Point Hospital in the Bronx, New York. He went to St. Athanasius School in the Bronx, and Cardinal Hayes High School, also in the Bronx. high school, Bob was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He served for two years, after which he was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in 1956. He attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York in the fall of 1956. On 23, 1957, his life changed when he met Pauline Macaluso (who became Penny Lord) at a birthday party given her by friends from the Academy at Bobs apartment. When their eyes met, they were both doomed (joke). never took their eyes off each other from that time on. Bob and Penny married in , 1958. gave up their dreams to be actors to build a home and a family. Penny had two children from a previous marriage whom Bob adopted. created a paper party goods company, which, while very stylish and popular, couldn make it financially.

During this time, their son Richard developed a serious case of Asthma. The area they were living in, Merrick, Long Island, was not good for his condition. Once, while Bob and Penny were both in Chicago for a trade show, Richard had such a bad attack, he had to be hospitalized and put in an oxygen tank. Penny rushed back to New York and asked the doctor where would be a place to live where they could control his asthma. The doctor mentioned two places in the world that would be good for Richards asthma. One was in Africa; the other was in Santa Monica, California. Guess where they went? On 26, 1967, their daughter Clares birthday, they packed up their meager belongings, left family and friends behind, and moved to Santa Monica, California to start a new life. Clare pouted that she didn have a birthday party that year. But the truth be known, by this time she was married and had a gorgeous baby. So they didn take her too seriously. closed their manufacturing company, and began working as Manufacturers Reps in Southern California. Their reputation as great sales people, (especially Penny and Clare) preceded them. were able to build a good following and their business thrived. Penny received an annulment on her first marriage and Bob and Penny were married in Our Lady of Malibu church by Monsignor John Sheridan on 29, 1969. It was the beginning of their lives as full members of the Church. Things were not going as good on the home front. On 23, 1971, their son Richard died of a drug overdose. Bob and Penny grieved a great deal, separately. had always done everything in their lives together. Now, they were separated. left the Church, and just went through the motions of life. Four years later, on New Years Eve, 1975, Bob received a word from the Lord. It was time to go back to church. This little couple, who had always done everything together except grieve for their son, reunited as a couple and went back to Church. On May 23, 1975, they experienced a Marriage Encounter Weekend, which changed their lives. came out of it not only a strong and committed couple, but determined to turn their lives over to Jesus. brought Jesus everywhere with them. At first, their accounts, which had not been used to this part of them, were taken back, but very shortly, they realized that this couple was committed to God. That year, 1975, the Marriage Encounter community got together, and 2000 couples traveled to Lourdes, France, and to Rome Italy in pilgrimage. It only cost $500 per person, but Bob and Penny could not afford to go. When they came back and shared their experiences to those who stayed behind, Bob and Penny vowed that the next year, 1976, they would go on a pilgrimage, no matter what. Financially, 1976 was not great. But the age of credit cards was coming into existence, so they financed their first pilgrimage to Europe and the Holy Land on credit. were like children in a fairy land. visited Lourdes, St. Anthony in Padua, and Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, Rome, the Holy Land, Fatima and Paris. As they were traveling, they found that there were so many more shrines they didn get to see. were so excited by all they had experienced; they decided they would go on pilgrimage every year.

For the next four years, this was their plan. would work hard all year long. would pay up last years pilgrimage so they could go on next years pilgrimage. would study about the shrines they didn get to see yet, and map out an itinerary which would bring them to these shrines. rented a car, and brought their daughter Clare and their grandson Rob with them. Not knowing it, this was the beginning of Journeys of Faith, their pilgrimage ministry, and the beginning of their book and television ministry. just wanted to marvel at the glory of our Church. In 1986, the Lord called Penny to have Bob write a book on the Miracles of the Eucharist. Most Americans had never heard of these Miracles. it was published, it was an immediate success. In the fall of 1986, Mother Angelica of the Eternal Word Television Network in Birmingham, Alabama, invited them on her program to talk about their book. She was so excited by them, she asked them to make a television series on it. This was very successful. produced many other television series which continue to be aired on EWTN. continued to write books. In 1988, a foundation in the Netherlands, asked them to make a TV program on some of the Miracles in Italy. This was a tremendous hit immediately. wanted to continued...
