Obituary: Portland- Doris Ann (Schumacher) Lyons, 78, of Portland, ME died unexpectedly on 24, 2014. She was born in Portland on 2, 1935 to the late Harold S. Schumacher and Isabelle F. Marston Schumacher. A lifelong resident of Portland, Doris graduated from Portland High School in 1953. She worked for Verizon Telephone for 28 years before retiring in 1994. Doris was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America-Jasper N. Keller Chapter No. 33. She then began a second career at L.L.Bean, working at the Northport Call , where she worked for another 20 years. Doris was also a 28-year breast cancer survivor and a strong advocate for the cause. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime communicant of St. Pius X Church in Portland, and to the great honor of her family, became a Eucharistic Minister. Her devotion to her faith and the church was her source of strength, and she was a guiding light to her family. Doris devoted her life to her family with unconditional love and support. She became the matriarch of her family, always ready to support her two daughters and their families. Lovingly referred to as Grammy Lyons, her five grandchildren and three great grandchildren were continually blessed with her presence. She took great joy in traveling throughout the state and the country sharing each milestone in their lives. Extended family members also played a significant role in her life. Her cousins, aunts, and uncles all found a special place in her heart. She held dear the fun memories of yearly trips to Samoset. Doris was a loyal friend to many throughout the years. She found great delight in these strong, lifelong bonds. She enjoyed bus trips, plays, dinners, and the tremendous gift that comes from a lifetime of caring relationships. Doris is survived by her two daughters: Susan A. and husband Michael Curato of Cumberland, and Sally A. and husband Donald Prokey of East Waterboro, five grandchildren: Dr. John J. Lowery, Jr. and wife, Alexandra, Dr. Jennifer L. Guerriero and husband Jason, Nicholas J. Curato and wife Christina, Emily Curato, and Matthew Prokey, and three great grandchildren: Madeline Lowery, Annalise Lowery, and Gabriella Guerriero. She is also survived by several cousins. Per Doris request, there will be no funeral home visiting hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Susan and Michael Curato on , 29th from 4-7p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on , 30, 2014 at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland. Interment will follow at Forest City in South Portland. are by Jones, Rich & Hutchins , Portland. Obituary: Rumford - Rose Elizabeth Lyon, age 92, of Pine Street in Rumford, passed away on 10, 2015 at Norway Rehab. She was born in Rochester, NY on 23, 1923. Rose was raised by her grandparents Frank and Elizabeth Godish on their farm in Peru, and she had many fond memories of her time there. She attended Peru Grammar school and was a graduate of Dixfield High School Class of 1942. Rose was employed in the lab at Oxford Paper for many years, and then was Store Manager for Montgomery Ward in Rumford. She loved all animals, especially her dog Sarah, who predeceased her. Rose is survived by her good friends, Olga Richardson of Peru, Linda Dubois and Richard Pickett, both of Dixfield, and David and Louise Austin of Rumford. |

Obituary: Auburn - Ida M. Lyon, 91 of 49 Pine Point Road, Scarborough, died , 15, 2010 after a brief illness, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, Maine. She was born in Rumford, 7, 1918 the daughter of the late Albert and Denise Melanson. She was educated in Rumford schools including Stephens High School. In 1939 she married Henry R. Lyon who predeceased her in 2003 after 64 years of marriage. In her younger years she enjoyed cross country skiing and snow shoeing. She and her husband enjoyed outdoor camping at various settings throughout New England and she cherished their frequent trips to Quebec, the setting of their nuptials. She was a great homemaker, decorator, cook, and gardener. She loved to shop for a great bargain and could negotiate the best transaction. She was loved by many and is survived by a daughter, Janice Boulay and husband Lionel "Nel" of Naples; three sons, Dr. David Lyon and wife C. Leah Holmes of Rhode Island, Gregory Lyon and wife Constance of Amherst, N.H. and Henry Lyon Jr. and wife Trudy of Windham; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary "Mariette" Patrick of New York; three brothers, Leo Melanson of Rumford, Richard Melanson of Dixfield and Albert Melanson of Germany. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kelly Jane Boulay in 2003; a great grandson, Greyden Anctil in 2007; 2 sisters, Bella Stone and Viola Arsenault and 3 brothers, Omer, George and Alcide Melanson. Visitation at Fortin/Auburn from 9:00 AM till 10:30 AM at which time a service will be held at the funeral home. Committal to follow at Maine Veterans Memorial , Mt. Vernon Road, a.
