Obituary: Judith (Tracy) Larrabee, 83 Falmouth - Judith T. Larrabee of Falmouth passed away at home after a lengthy illness on 29, 2014 with family at her side. Judy was born 1, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Joseph E. and Julia (Dodge) Tracy. At an early age her family settled in Delmar, NY where she attended local schools and graduated from Bethlehem Central High School. In 1953 she graduated from Mount Holyoke . Judy married Leonard P. Larrabee, Jr. while he was serving as a lieutenant in the US Army. had met while Judy was a senior at Mount Holyoke and he was attending graduate school at Dartmouth. Following her husbands discharge from the service, they settled in his hometown of New Rochelle, NY where they raised their six children and continued the long time Larrabee tradition of summer vacations on Bustins Island, ME. For a number of years following her husbands retirement they divided their time mainly between Seabrook Island, SC and Falmouth, ME until finally settling in Falmouth. While in Falmouth and until Judys illness they spent much of the summer months at their cottage on Bustins Island. Judy was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother and an accomplished water colorist and an avid knitter. Her paintings graced her homes as well as those of her children and her knit wear was principally for her children when young, her grandchildren and gifts to charities. In New Rochelle she was an active church volunteer, as well as an active member of the Mount Holyoke Club of Westchester. Both Judy and her husband were direct descendants of passengers on the Mayflowers initial crossing to North America. Judy was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her dear husband of 59 years and her daughters Judith Hayes and husband William of North Yarmouth, ME, Elizabeth Larrabee and husband John Riley of Walnut Creek, CA, Jacqueline Bohan and husband Thomas of Yonkers, NY and Nancy McCrory and husband Timothy of Tarrytown, NY; sons Leonard III and wife Susan of Armonk, NY and David and wife Kathleen of Keswick, VA; and ten grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Joan Davis of Lake Jackson, TX and her brother Joseph Tracy of Ogdensburg, NY. Judy loved dogs and leaves behind her Welsh terrier, Tucker, of whom she was especially fond. The family is very grateful for the compassionate care provided Judy during the final years of her illness by the nurses and caregivers of Beacon Hospice and the caregivers of tree care. There will be no visiting hours. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Road in Falmouth at 10 AM on , 3. Obituary: Dorothy Elizabeth (Burrill) Larrabee, 93, a resident of Schooner Estates in Auburn,died peacefully evening surrounded by her family. "Dot", as she was known, was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on 24, 1922, the daughter of Pauline and Charles Burrill. A 1940 graduate of Brockton High School, she received her bachelor's degree from RPI of William and Mary in Richmond, Virginia in 1944. She received a Master's Degree in Social Work from Simmons in Boston in 1946. She met her husband, Franklin Larrabee of Lewiston, at a USO dance in Richmond, Virginia while he was stationed there during WW2. were married on 6, 1946 in Brockton and established their home in Lewiston. She began her social work career working in Auburn for the State of Maine Division of Child Welfare, where she was the first social worker with a Masters Degree in Social Work for the Department. In 1949 she left to raise her children and became an active volunteer at a number of community organizations. She served as a board member and later, the president of the Lewiston-Auburn YWCA. She was an active member of the United Baptist Church in Lewiston, as well as, clerk for the Maine Council of Churches. She was active in the League of Women Voters and moderated a televised gubernatorial debate. She also found the time to be involved in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. In the midst of her community involvement she taught gifted 5th and 6th grade students for two years beginning in 1959 in the Auburn school system. She was then recruited to return to the child welfare field by the state Division of Child Welfare in Lewiston. She continued to work for the Department until 1974 in a variety of roles including foster care and adoption. Recognizing that childrens psychological needs are better served in a family setting, she was instrumental in developing state licensing standards for foster homes, which led to the Department's much larger use of foster care and the eventual closing of many orphanages. During her career she served as president of the Maine chapter of NASW (National Association of Social Workers), member and later chairperson of the Maine Human Services Council, was a member of the Child Welfare Advisory Committee, and served on the Governor's Task Force on Foster for Children and the Coalition for Maine Children. Remaining active in community service, she was heavily involved in Pathways, a rehabilitation agency, where she was a board member and president in the 1970's and 80's. In 1976 she and other community volunteers formed a group to create New Beginnings which opened its first youth shelter in Greene in 1980. New Beginnings has grown into a multi-faceted organization serving the needs of homeless youth and in crisis in southern Maine. Having served on its board for over 20 years, in of 2015 she was honored by New Beginnings with a lifetime service award at a dinner at the Ann Geiger on Street. Later in her life she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Auburn. She is survived by a son, Owen W., and his wife, Melissa Albertson, of Ardmore, Pa; a daughter, Martha E. Larrabee, and her husband, Gregory Cherneff, of Littleton, Mass; four grandchildren, Katherine and Meredith Larrabee, and Elizabeth and Rebecca Cherneff. Obituary: Ann Larrabee, 96 Yarmouth - Ann K. Larrabee passed away peacefully early morning, 15, 2015. Born in Arlington, MA on 15, 1918, she was the daughter of Andrew Allen and Rachel Tuttle Kimball; she grew up in Arlington and Winchester MA. Ann graduated from Winchester High School in 1936 and from Smith in 1940. She married Kenneth G. Larrabee on 22, 1941, and they raised their two children primarily in Yarmouth where the family relocated in 1949. When their children were well through school, she earned her Masters degree in library science at the University of Maine, the first degree awarded there in that field. She spent twenty years as a professional librarian, her last ten at Falmouth Memorial Library. Active in many community affairs, Ann was particularly proud of her long-time membership in the Fortnightly Club. She faithfully attended the First Universalist Church in Yarmouth and, after her husbands passing, joined a free-style community drumming circle hosted by the church; she loved her drumming experiences. Fishing vacations at Kennebago Lake with her husband, children, and grandchildren were her summer joy, along with excursions to her family summer home in Gloucester MA when her children were young. Her extended family was central to her life, and she provided friendship and guidance to her loving nieces and nephews. She extended this support to younger church members as well. Her impact on people was widespread. She maintained an active social life through her final days, and will be dearly missed by her many friends and family members. She is survived by her children: K. Allen Larrabee and his wife Joan and Ann Jo Jackson and her husband Paul; and by her grandchildren: Lisa S. Larrabee, Michael K. J. Larrabee, Rachel A. Mastrangelo and her husband Gregory, and Susannah B. Jackson. Ann was predeceased by her husband; and by her siblings, Jane Breton OConnor, Rachel (Polly) K. Knowlton, and James E. Kimball, II; and by her niece Judy Knowlton Scott and her nephew Richard Knowlton. The family would like to thank Deb Fox for the care and kindness she demonstrated to Ann over the years; her friendship is greatly appreciated. Services will be held at the First Universalist Church, 97 Main Street, Yarmouth at 11:00 AM on , 22, 2015, the 74th anniversary of her wedding. A reception will follow at the church.
