Obituary: AUBURN: Maurice Normand Laroche, 84, of Lewiston died peacefully , 13, 2016 at the Hospice House following a courageous nine month battle with liver cancer. His family was by his side every step of the way. He was born 3, 1932 in Lewiston to Joseph Laroche and Bernadette Laroche (Beaudoin). Maurice attended St. Peters school through 8th grade after which he began working at Panther Shoe in Lewiston to help provide for his family. He was proud of his father, Petit Joe Laroches boxing career. He spent many days while growing up at the boxing gym with his father. Maurice loved being social, being around his friends and family, hockey, the Boston Bruins, and his weekly outings to Gippers. He also had a great love for his dogs, Molly, Cleo, and Moxie. For 25 years, Maurice was employed by the Auburn Water & Sewer District. He was a foreman, who happily worked side by side with the men he was in charge of. Upon retirement, Maurice worked part time as a courier for various local banks and cared for his in-laws, Conrad and Cecile Lebel. Maurice was proud of his service in the National Guard and was also a Third Degree of the Knights of Columbus. On 5, 1973 he married Jeannette Lebel. Together they raised a beautiful blended family. He is loved by his wife of 43 years, Jeannette, of Lewiston; their children: Jennifer Laroche-Albert and her husband, Kevin of Lewiston; Marie Herrick and her husband Daniel of Auburn, Michael Frechette and his wife Donna of Venice, FLA., Catherine Lin and her husband, Michael of Tampa, FLA., nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nephews and a niece. He is predeceased by his father, Joseph, mother, Bernadette, father in-law, Conrad, mother in-law, Cecile, brother, Roland, and sister, Anita. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life at Gippers Sports Grill, 120 Street, Auburn on , 20, 2016 from 6-9PM. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Peters in Lewiston. Obituary: Anne Liarakos La Rocca, age 94, a resident of St. Marys dYouville Pavilion in Lewiston, passed away peacefully on 8, 2017. She was born in Lewiston, Maine, on 26, 1922, to Stella and John Liarakos. Anne attended local schools and graduated from Lewiston high School in 1940. She was active in many school activities, and was an honor student, and a member of the National Honor Society. She was also a graduate of the Auburn, Maine, School of Commerce. Anne took the Civil Service Exam and worked in a for the federal Office of Price Administration during World War II for three years. She also volunteered in the area as a hostess at Camp Keyes. She resigned in 1945 in order to attend Paine Hall School in New York City. This college offered Medical Assistant Courses for which New York University gave credit. Anne was always an avid reader and spent much time at the public library. While attending school, she worked part-time at St. Vincent Hospitals Records Room in New York City. And while living in New York City, she also attended Hunter and took evening courses. Anne graduated from Paine Hall School in , 1946, and on graduation day, she was hired by a group of surgeons connected with the Brooklyn and Lutheran Hospitals. She was salutatorian of her class, and she gave the graduation address at the ceremony, which was held at the Marble Collegiate Church, while standing at Dr. Norman Vincent Peales podium. For six years, she worked with these surgeons as an office nurse-assistant and enjoyed and loved her work, as she learned much from this great group of medical professionals. On 22, 1951, Anne married Daniel A. La Rocca, a pre-med student at New York University who later worked many years for Schering Pharmaceutical. He predeceased her in 1984. Through a former classmate, Anne was contacted about a job in New York City with Dr. Jerome P. Webster, Chief of Plastic Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Since two of the surgeons were now deceased, she accepted this position. This was a wonderful opportunity, as Dr. Webster was noted for his work with war veterans who were sent to him from the Greek government. Anne worked there until about six weeks before the birth of her first child, Lynda Anne, on 14, 1953. Now, as planned, she became a full-time, at-home mother. She did not remain idle, but did medical records for various groups from her home. On 27, 1956, she gave birth to her son, Nicholas Dante, and for the next few years enjoyed the time she could spend with her two children-my greatest two accomplishments . . . my pride and joy . . . This time spent with her children, as they went through all their growing phases, was very enjoyable. did much traveling, and went into New York City often to visit various museums and zoos. The family also enjoyed traveling during school vacations and covered many spots of interest in the United States, Jamaica, and Greece, where they visited relatives. Anne enjoyed many day trips with the loves of her life, Lynda and Dante, and the time was filled with much love, respect, and tremendous pleasure as they all saw, and learned, much about this world. Once her children were both in school, Anne became active there, too, serving as a class mother, planning school trips, being a den mother to a group of Cub Scouts, and helping with many other school duties. During this period, Anne also joined, and became active in, the Wayne, New Jersey, Womens Club and the Wayne, New Jersey, chapter of the Professional Secretaries International. She held various positions with these groups and served in many different capacities. In 1982, Anne became a Certified Professional Secretary and in 1983, she was named Secretary of the Year by Professional Secretaries International. Anne chaired an annual fashion show which raised funds for local scholarships. She was also chosen by Bambergers for its Gallery for Distinguished Women of New Jersey because of her many civic activities. Anne took various courses at Paterson State , and obtained her N.J. State Real Estate License. In 1973, Anne returned to work full-time and secured a position as secretary to the administrator of the local Visiting Service. This organization was in the process of enlarging and was in need of an assistant to the administrator. It had one of the first hospice units in the area, held many Fairs, and had a superior staff of nurses, home health aides, and various therapists, all very dedicated. This was a very rewarding experience, and it was a pleasure to work with so many dedicated individuals. Retirement came in 1987, and Anne bought a condo and moved to Maine. Again, she became very active. The first group she joined was a nursing-home visitation group. Once a week, she visited an assigned patient who had no close relatives living nearby. She also volunteered at the Longley School reading program, where she was assigned a student and spent mornings helping her student learn to enjoy books. Anne was a member of the Womans Literary Union, and a Corporator at CMMC Hospital; she also joined the local AARP Chapter where she held many offices and was awarded the Belle Rush Award for services above and beyond the call of duty. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Lewiston, where she worked on bake sales, the annual festival, and other fund-raisers. She also gathered signatures for the Cardiac Unit being planned for CCMC Hospital in Lewiston, which is now a reality. Anne was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Steve and Charles Liarakos; a sister, Cecile DAmour; and brothers-in-law Joe DAmour, Pete Ramsey, Tony Hildreth, and Harry Liaros.
