Obituary: Lois Catherine (Hieber) Luyk 24, 1929 - 24, 2016 Lois Catherine Hieber was born in Ann Arbor Michigan to Salvationist parents Albert and Mabel Hieber on 24, 1929. She was their second born but became the eldest of three (Constance & Ronald) when Betty Jean died in infancy. Her teenage years were spent living on a small farm on Joy Road to which she often referred in remembering her early years. She grew up attending The Salvation Army where her father, the Corps Sergeant Major, taught School as did her mother. She also participated in Guard, Corps Cadets, and band. graduating from High School she worked at Ann Arbor Bank where even then she showed a talent for volunteering. She met her lifelong partner, Kenn, at a memorial service for her grandmother where he was booked to sing. Their first date was a Memorial Day picnic of the University of Michigan Bands. a brief courtship, they were married on 20, 1952. Kenn completed his graduate schooling at the University of Michigan, they moved to New Kensington, PA where Ken took a position with Alcoa Laboratories and Lois worked in a real estate office until the family started to arrive. Being 2nd generation Salvationists, they quickly found the local Salvation Army corps and became active. Lois supported the work of Kenn developing banding programs there, herself playing 2nd baritone. She was active as a School teacher and with Divisional League Commission. She was honored by the Division in 1986 as Woman of the Year and by the New Kensington Corps as Volunteer of the Year. She also spent countless hours volunteering for the local hospital auxiliary - enough to be awarded a housand hour pin, as well as being an active member of Toastmasters International. In1993, after serving 39 years in New Kensington, Kenn & Lois retired to Sanford, NC. However the word retire was not in their vocabulary and they soon became active at the Raleigh, NC Corps. were also instrumental in developing the local Salvation Army Service Unit in Sanford establishing and managing a thrift store where they began conducting weekly Bible Studies. This led to the eventual opening of the Sanford Corps. While attending the Raleigh Corps, Lois was honored for 50 years of faithful Salvation Army Service as a soldier. Once more Kenn & Lois tried to retire when in 2006 they moved to their home at Park Springs in Stone Mountain, GA. Here too, Lois took an active role in volunteering with the Cornerstone Fellowship (weekly worship service), singing in the Park Springs Chorus and actively serving on the Cobblestone Committee. Up until her hospitalization, she could be found transporting wheelchair bound residents to the weekly Cornerstone meetings as well as assisting with the annual Park Springs sale. also began to attend the Lawrenceville Corps where Lois faithfully performed League of Mercy service through her support of the residents in her Park Springs community. While spending countless hours volunteering in various communities and for the Army, Lois remained a devoted wife and mother. She was always available to support her husband, children and grandchildren in their endeavors putting them above her own interests. Today we honor the legacy of her faithful Christian life and service. She will be greatly missed by many, especially her husband Kenneth, and five children, Lt. Colonel Ken (Dawn) Luyk, Lt. Colonel Lynn (Dennis) Gensler, Jil Marie Luyk, Adrian (Debbie) Luyk and Derek (Lori) Luyk as well as ten grandchildren and one great grandson. |

Obituary: Diane was born on 10, 1958 at White Memorial Hospital. In Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Manuel and Pauline Galvez. Diane was raised in Alhambra, California. Always at the ready with a good joke, she grew up to be quite a humorous person. While some who knew Diane might describe her as an idealist, her friends and family understood well that Diane was always in pursuit of lifes endless possibilities and opportunities available to her. Diane was raised with Three siblings. She had older sister Deborah and two younger brothers Manny and Paul. Diane was very accepting and supportive of her family. As a young girl, Diane was able to empathize and identify with a vast array of people and personality types. This quality drew her into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. Diane was intelligent and had little trouble getting along with her peers. She was almost always the first to jump in when it came to playing games or participating in other childhood activities. She was a member of the girl scouts, drill team, cheerleading team and talent shows. In her spare time she liked playing guitar, singing and drawing. Diane had the ability to find amusement with almost any activity she and the many childhood friends she shared might discover. During her high school years, Diane responded enthusiastically to any new project and was regularly in search of one adventure after another. She graduated from Alahambra High School. In 1976. Diane was a very good student, and generally did well in her courses. Diane absorbed as much as she could from all of her teachers and was consistently able to tackle conceptual and abstract problems, using her imagination to master her assignments. For Diane, school often became just an extension of playtime, thanks to her ability to turn just about anything into a game. Classmates considered Diane a good listener, knowing that when necessary, they could go to her to discuss just about anything. Her favorite class in high school was music and art. She had two years of junior college and trade school. Diane was very adaptable, a quality that helped her make the transition from high school to college with little difficulty. As a result, Dianes problem solving skills and thirst for new knowledge almost guaranteed that she enjoyed virtually every class she took. Diane was always in quest of new things to learn and experience With a talent for making acquaintances easily which in turn brought her an endless stream of friends, Diane was very sociable and could blend without effort into any social group. Assertive and outgoing, Diane was easy to know and demonstrated a deep concern for others. She always seemed aware of what was going on with people around her and throughout her life she made many, many friends. While growing up, some of her best friends were Becky Renteria Salazar and Lucy Mitchum. Later in life, she became friends with Olga Rainy and Margaret Hunt. Dianes skill at understanding her childrens feelings, her sensitivity to their needs, and her gift for gentle persuasion enabled her to find novel solutions to any problem or situation that might crop up. Diane was blessed with Five: Michelle,Joshua, Danielle,Gabriel and Patrick. were also blessed with one grandchild., Jeremy. Diane was uplifted by new ideas and was excited by lifes possibilities, traits that made her an exceptional worker. Her primary occupation was hairstylist. She was employed as a hairstylist for 25 plus years. Diane was enterprising, inventive and working against deadlines seemed to energize her. Diane had the uncanny ability to identify a win/win solution to just about any problem, possibly because of her gift for insight. Dianes fellow workers saw her as a supporter and a mentor. Because Diane loved to have a broad variety of activities in her life, she took advantage of the opportunity to pursue numerous hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were art, playing guitar and singing. Diane had a knack for being able to multi-task in order to create time for all of her favorite pastimes. However, Dianes ever-present concern for others always took precedent. Dianes love of improvising in her daily life was a perfect fit for her enjoyment of traveling. Her favorite vacations were ones that were not planned. Traveling in a casual manor fit her personality well. Excited about seeing changing scenery and constantly looking for the enjoyment life could offer, Diane took her vacations seriously, well, as seriously as she possibly could. Favorite vacations included sailing with her parents on Dana Point, Ca and Hawaii. Diane was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Buster and Timmy Desert Tortoise., was a best friend for Buster four years and Timmy six years. Diane Lutz passed away on 1, 2011 at Canton, Georgia. She is survived by children Michelle, Joshua, Danielle, Gabriel, and Patrick. Grandchild Jeremy. Sister Deborah, brothers Manny and Paul and parents, Manuel and Pauline Galvez. Services were held at Woodstock , Woodstock, Georgia. Dianes ashes were scrattered at sea on Dana Point, Calfornia. |
