Obituary: COLUMBIA - A Graveside service for Roy T. Loyd, 88, formerly of Union and Columbia, will be held , 1, 2015 at 2 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Dunbar , Devine Street Chapel, Columbia. Mr. Loyd died , 25, 2015. Born in Cowpens, he was the son of the late Barney S. Loyd and Jettie Pegram Brown. A veteran of World War II, he graduated from Furman University and received his masters degree from Florida State University. He retired from the SC Department of Social Services. He attended the First Baptist Church of Union and was a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church in Columbia. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Beth Loyd of Ringgold, Ga.; grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Loyd, both of Ringgold, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, John and Brenda Brown of Union, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Barney S. Loyd and a sister, Nellie Levan. |

She was a faithful member of St. Peters Catholic Church. Mrs. Loyd was retired from Mansours Department Store, were she worked for thirty plus years in the shoe department and was often referred to by the moniker "shoe lady." In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Major Gilbert M. Loyd; brother, Alton Gordon; sister, Nancy Jackie Cooper; brother, David Pete Gordon and nephew, David Cooper. Survivors include her daughters, Katherine Katha Loyd of LaGrange, GA; Samantha Loyd of Charleston, SC; son, Michael Loyd of Fairbanks, AK; nephew, Terry Cooper of LaGrange, GA; extended family includes Stephanie Phillips-Hardy, Vanessa Roberts, Karen Hodnett and family, Elizabeth, Denise, and Camryn Willingham, Tina, Mark and Asher Smith, Althena Timmons, Michael Shirley, and Kim Bills; as well as her beloved, Potter. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., at Snows Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Mark Grinstead will officiate. The family will meet friends from 4 - 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Those who wish are asked to make contributions to the Alzheimers Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201. Mr. Loyd was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Bell Elliott Loyd, and sisters, Julia Riner and Frances Mason. He was born in Johnson , the son of the late Albert L. Loyd and Jessie Alma Townsend Loyd. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict, and retired from Keebler, as a supervisor, after more than thirty-six years of service. Mr. Loyd was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed travelling, camping, and entertaining others with his harmonica. He is survived by his beloved family, daughters, Beverly (Wally) Glaze and Paula Reeves, both of Byron, Sharon (Jimmy) Peavey of Twiggs and Ramona (Bert) Diaz of Houston, TX; son, Waylon (Amy) Loyd of Macon; fifteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; brother, Ernest Loyd of Macon; sisters, Betty Jean Lord and Susan (Harold) Turner, all of Macon; and nieces and nephews.
