Obituary: Marlene McEver Layton, loving wife, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother of White, Georgia, passed away at home, , 18, 2015 at the age of 80 with her husband, Norman C. Layton, Sr., at her side. Mrs. Layton was born 24, 1934, daughter of the late Birdie Pruitt McEver and the late Marvin E. McEver. Mrs. Layton was preceeded in death by her two sisters, Betty Rose McEver Payne and Lola Mae McEver Shinall and her only brother Marvin E. McEver, Jr. She was a life long resident of Bartow . Mrs. Layton is survived by her husband, (Budd) C. Layton and three sons, Norman Carl Layton (Wife Leigh Smith Layton), Rev. Terry Glenn Layton (Wife Lannett Roberson Layton) and Ronald Lamar Layton, eleven grandchildren: Corey Alan Layton (Karina), Christa Lauren Layton Gilmore (Brad), Carrie Layton Chastain (Blaine), Norman Carl (Trey) Layton III (Andrea), Molly and Samuel Schaefer, Spencer, Kathleen, Conner, Karline and Kandace Layton; and 6 great-grandchildren; Mieke, Inara, Abby and Greyson Layton, Kucian Chastain, Alyssa Childers. Mrs. Layton was active in the Cartersville/White communities. She served as lunchroom manager for White Elementary School for 14 years and during her tenure there was names lead nutritionist for the Bartow School system. Mrs. Layton served two terms on the Bartow School Board, from 1993 to 2001, and was elected its first woman chairperson during her second term. Mrs. Layton was a participant with her sons football and wrestling teams as Team Mom. She was a member of Atco Baptist Church and later Oakland Heights Baptist church where she sang in the choir. She also attended white Methodist Church for a short period. Most recently she attended Sutallee Baptist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star and was elected Worthy Matron of her chapter. Mrs. Layton was a member of the Flirty Gerties Red Hat Society of Adairsville.Until recently, Mrs. Layton was active with the Antique Automobile Club of America where she and her husband showed classic cars and traveled around the country, judging cars at nationally ranked car shows. She appointed the first woman chair of the HPOF (Historical Preservation of Original Features) divisions of AACA. Mrs. Layton had learned to fly fixed wing aircraft in the 1970s and attained her pilots license. She enjoyed life, always had a beautiful smile and never met a stranger. Whether it was jewelry or travel she was a gypsy at heart. The family will receive friends at Owen on evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. services will be on at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Owen with Rev. Billy Edmondson officiating with assistance from Rev. Terry Glenn Layton. Interment will take place following the service at Oak Hill in Cartersville. Serving as pallbearers will be Reuben Lowe, Roger Papp, Tony Stalnaker, Greg Kendricks, Roger Kendreicks, Mike Presley and Jimmy Payne. Memorial donations may be made to the Youth Program of the Sutallee Baptist Church, 895 Knox Bridge Road HWY, White, Ga. 30184. Owen , 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements. |

Obituary: Eva V. Layton, 87, of Stockbridge, Georgia passed away 30, 2014. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Craven E. Layton. Mrs. Layton was also preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Rector; and her brother, Al Vermillion. Mrs. Layton is loved and will be remembered by son, Chip Layton and wife Maryanne; granddaughter, Erin Layton; grandson, Mathew Layton and wife Brooklyn; and her sister, Wilma Jean Crabtree.
