Obituary: Betty Jean Langston, age 83, of Winder, passed away , 13, 2014. She was a member of Old Silver Creek Baptist Church. She graduated from Monticello High School, in Monticello, MS, where she was in the marching band and a honor baritone player. She loved to crochet, was an excellent cook, and was a loving mother. She also loved her Ole Miss Rebels. The family would like to give a special thanks to Tender Personal and Agape Hospice for their loving care and compassion. Mrs. Langston was preceded in death by her parents, William Herman and Alma Peevey Nelson; her husband, James Edward Langston; her brother, W. C. Dub Nelson; her sister, Beatrice Wilson. She is survived by a son, Jim Langston (Brenda) of Suwanee; two daughters, Sandra Bethune (Robert) of Lawrenceville and Lynda Hall (Rodney) of Winder; ten grandchildren, Jennifer Golf (Jim), Jay Langston (Lauren), Brandi Wilson (Josh), Lisa Williams (Jeff), J. R. Barden (Marcy), Glen Perkins, Nikki Milner (Reade), Tyler Bethune, Katie Hall and Macayla Hall; eleven great-grandchildren, Meredith, Samuel, Wyatt, Grant, Quorra, Austin, Autumn, Landon, Ella, Jonathan and Betty. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, , 19, 2014, at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church in Dacula, with Pastor Dave Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time. Donations may be made to Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church Growing Together Building Fund in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Langston. |

Obituary: William Wesley Langley, age 85, of 5th Avenue , passed away at a local hospital 14, 2011. Mr. Langley was born in Floyd 2, 1925. He was the son of the late Wheeler Langley and Marguerite Rush Langley. He was also preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Doris Collier Langley whom he married on 25, 1950, and a brother Henley Langley. Mr. Langley grew up in Rome and attended Rome High School. He then joined the Merchant Marines and served in WWII from 1943 to 1945. While in the Merchant Marines he served as an officer in the engine room. returning to Rome from the war he worked for Butler Shoes on Broad St. It was mentioned that the Butler Shoe Co. on Broad St. had the first air conditioned business on the street. He later went to work for the Brown Shoe as a salesman, and he retired with the Nina Shoe Co. He is survived by one son David Langley, a daughter; Debbie Brock and her husband Frank of Rome, four grandchildren; Stephanie Grant and her husband Justin of Winder, Joey Brock of Newnan, Hailee Jones and her husband Brandon of Ackworth and Christopher Jenkins and his wife Sarah of Washington, D.C., three great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, one brother; Sammy Langley and his wife Micki of Rome, and a sister Lynn Carroll and her husband, Jim of Rome also survive. A graveside Service for Mr. Langley was conducted , 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Billy Fricks officiating. The family received friends at Daniels from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Those serving as pallbearers are Brad Langley and Aaron Carroll. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association P.O. Box 840692 Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or to the charity of your choice. Daniels has charge of the funeral arrangements. |

Obituary: Ralph Kermit Langley, age 86 of Winder, passed away , 16, 2016. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon. Ralph proudly served his country in the US Army during The Korean Conflict, where he earned two bronze stars. He was a Mason and a 50 + year member of Winder Lodge #333. Ralph worked many jobs over the years including Aurora Aircraft, Barrow Schools and he operated his own lawn service thru this past summer. Ralph has worked part-time in funeral service in Barrow for nearly 20 years serving fourteen of those with Smith , where he was a trusted friend and a valuable employee. We at Smith love Ralph and his family very much and he will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Bertie Gearin Langley; his first wife, Sarah Austin Langley; a brother, Cleteus Langley and a step-son, James Odell Strickland. He is survived by his wife, Sybil Kiser Langley of Winder; three step-sons, Danny Strickland (Mickie) of Winder, Thomas Strickland (Janet) of Duluth and Randy Strickland (Pam) of Cornelia; a step-daughter, Patti Burns (Ken) of Hoschton; his adopted family, Tony and Nancy Harris of Winder and a step-daughter-in-law, Debbie Strickland.
