Obituary: Joseph Kwasniewski East Lyme- Joseph J. Kwasniewski, 86, of Walnut Hill Road, died , 13, 2009 at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
Joseph was born 27, 1922 in Ledyard, the youngest son of Polish immigrants Paul and Teophlia Kwasniewski. Soon after his birth, the family moved to New London where Joseph attended grammar school. He was a member of the first graduating class at Old Lyme High School. graduation, he worked for Babcock Printing in New London, then became self employed as a carpenter.
Joseph enlisted into the United States Army on 4, 1943 training in West Virginia and New Jersey. his basic training, he was deployed to Europe and was assigned to the 188th Engineer Combat Battalion, supervising the construction of bridges, roads, and buildings and instructing new personnel. At this point, Joseph had reached the rank of Corporal; Joseph went on to fight in battles in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe. There he saw considerable action with the first and the third armies. For his actions, he received a Bronze Star for the Battle of Metz in the Belgium Bulge. Following the Battle of the Bulge, he went on to Saarbrucken, where he and his unit went into action building floating pontoon bridges across the Moselle River, and the Rhine River where General Patton and three armies crossed. He also served as a Polish translator.
In of 2004, Rep. Robert Simmons presented Joseph with medals that he had accumulated during the war but was never formally given: Gold Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal and quadruple Bronze Star attachment, World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII and a Sharpshooter Badge and Rifle Bar.
Joseph was honorable discharge on 16, 1945 and return home to his wife Aurile Brown Kwasniewski, where together they raised four children.
A well known building contractor in the area, he was involved in the construction of many well known projects, including the I-95 Highway project, Pfizer Corporation in Groton, all three Millstone Power Plants and various neighborhood developments in East Lyme.
Joseph had a deep love for his beloved East Lyme and was deeply involved and well known throughout the community. In 1953, he was one of the founding members of the Niantic Little League and served for many years as a coach. A community watchdog, e was a member of the East Lyme Tax Payers Association; the East Lyme Town Building Committee; the East Lyme Republican Town Committee; A life member of the Niantic VFW, the Niantic American Legion and the Carpenter Local 30, where he served as a union Stewart.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dorothy Mae (Perdue) Kwasniewski; four children, Eric Kaswniewski of Niantic, Paul Kaswniewski of Old Saybrook, Joan Bengtson of East Lyme and Madeline Kaswniewski of Niantic; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on , at 11 AM at St. Matthias Church, Chesterfield Road, East Lyme. Burial with Military Honors will be in East Lyme .

Ms. Kwasniewski was born on 11, 1915 in Norwich, CT the daughter of Paul and Teophilia Kwasniewski. She and her sister owned and operated the Old Lyme Beauty Shop for over 40 years. She devoted her life to her church and her family. She was an active member of Christ the King Church in Old Lyme as a member of the Ladies Guild. Also a 70 year member of the Old Lyme Grange. She deeply loved her family, extended family and all of her friends.

Ms. Kwasniewski is survived by her many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her two brothers and three sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on , 22, 2015 at 10:30am in Christ the King Church, Old Lyme. Interment will follow in Duck River .

Obituary: Marian Kwas passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Hartford Hospital on 4, 2015. Marian was born on 30, 1925 in Staniewice, Poland to Adam and Agnieszka (Gawior) Kwas. In school he liked to play soccer and play violin with his friends and he even made his own violin. In 1941 at the age of 16, he was taken away to a labor camp in Germany where he remained until the liberation in 1945. He immigrated to the USA in 1950. Marians first job was in the tobacco fields in Windsor, CT. the contract ended, and through his new Polish network of friends, he was hired at the Holo-Krome in West Hartford where he worked for 40 years until retirement. While working full time at Holo-Krome, he went to A. I. Prince Technical School and at the same time to an evening English school where he met his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Erika (Mootz) two sons, Ronald Kwas and his wife Wendy, of West Hartford, Michael Kwas of Farmington, his grandson Nikolaus Kwas, and his close family friends, Michael Michnowski of Collinsville and Elizabeth Pezda of West Hartford. Marian was a resident of West Hartford since 1960 and has been a long time member of the Hartford Sängerbund in Newington. Special thanks to the Hartford Hospital Emergency Room, ICU and LIFE STAR personnel for the efforts. A funeral service will be held at Noon on , 13, 2015 at Taylor & Modeen , 136 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT. Burial will be private. Obituary: Maude G. (Goff) Kwak, 91, of South Windsor, passed away , 25, 2014 peacefully at home. Born in Cornwallville, NY, daughter of the late Eugene W. Goff and Laura M. White. She was predeceased by her brothers, Reginald, Victor and Emery Goff. She leaves her loving husband of 48 years, Konyong J. Kwak, and her beloved poodle, Buddy Boy; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She received her Associates in Arts from Pfeiffer Junior , in 1947, her Bachelor of Arts degree from McMurry , in 1949 and her Master of Arts degree from Scarritt for Christian Workers in 1953. She was a missionary in South Korea for the United Methodist Church in 1949 until the Korean War caused her to evacuate to Kobe, Japan, where she was a high school English teacher for three years. the war she returned to Korea and continued her mission as the Director and social worker for the United Methodist Mission. She met her husband in Korea and married in 1966. Maude returned to Connecticut, where she worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services until retirement. She was a dedicated member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a Lay Leader and the President of the Methodist Women. Relatives and friends may call on , 27th (TONIGHT) from 4 to 7 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon , 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. Obituary: Konyong Joseph Kwak, 80, of South Windsor, husband of Young (Suk) Kwak, passed away at his home on , 12, 2016. Born in Inchon, South Korea, the second born son of the late Chul Shin Kwak and Soh Chaebong Kwak, he grew up in Inchon and he served in the Korean Army. serving in the army, he worked in the Inchon Christian Service before coming to the United States in 1966. He lived in East Hartford before moving to South Windsor almost 40 years ago. Prior to his retirement, Konyong had a manager position with Hartford Steam Boiler in Hartford for many years. his retirement, he was the bureau chief in Connecticut for The Korean Times, and he also worked part-time at Mr. Sparkle Car Wash as an accountant. He was an active longtime member and retired church elder at the Hartford Korean United Methodist Church. He loved to sing and he sang in the church choir for many years and he became the choir director. He liked to play golf and was an avid Red Sox fan. Mr. Kwak was very active in the Korean community and he was the recipient of several awards, such as being honored by the National Unification Advisory Council as Korean of the Year in 2011, and recognized by Governor Dannel P. Malloy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Chae Kun Kwak of Glastonbury. He was predeceased by his first wife, Maude (Goff) Kwak and his brother, Kiyoung Kwak.
