Obituary: Richard John Klug, aged 77, beloved father, partner, mentor and friend, passed peacefully into eternal life on the evening of 12, 2017. He was surrounded by his family, who are bereft at his loss, but humbled and blessed by the tremendous gift he was to their lives. Dick was born to Harold and Marcella (nee Konzal) Klug on 12, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was the second of six children. A mischievous boy, his zest for life and his own personal brand of fun made him the bane of many a nuns existence at Christ King Catholic Parish School. However, his gregarious spirit and the twinkle in his eye that came with it earned him the affection of many wonderful friends, who remained so all the days of his life. Dicks work ethic manifested early, beginning with his first job at the Shell Station on 116th and Bluemound. Following the completion of his high school studies, he enlisted in the Marine Corps as a Reservist. At the conclusion of his Service commitment, Dick earned an apprenticeship at the International Harvester s Tool and Die Division, an experience which paid dividends for many, many years to come. Because of the opportunity at Harvester, he was contracted to the Kimberly Clark Corporation among others, and in the process, relocated to Rochester, Minnesota. Ultimately, Dick transferred to Appleton, Wisconsin, which he called home for the rest of his days. As hard as Dick worked, he played just as well, both in his youth and his adulthood. Whether wreaking havoc with the usual suspects on his home turf, or raising the roof at the rental house on Pewaukee Lake, Dick lived every moment of life to the fullest. Those escapades produced stories aplenty, which he told with his trademark grin and colloquialisms, much to the enjoyment of his audiences. He continued to make lasting memories throughout his life with family and friends, and could often be found on the course at Butte des Morts Country Club, tackling runs at one of many ski hills in the UP and beyond, or enjoying the sights and sounds of the Northwoods during his frequent trips to Manitowish Waters. In of 1972, Dick married Lorene Wheaton (Murphy), formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Kristen in 1974 and Scott in 1977. Believing wholeheartedly that education was the key to success, Dick was devoted to his childrens academic efforts, and spent countless evenings shepherding them through the hree Rs, as well as imparting to them the importance of integrity and discipline in all things. Though at the time, his children may have viewed him as something of a taskmaster, the lessons he passed along to them became the foundation on which they built their lives. Dick prepared them so well for so much. For that they are and will remain eternally grateful. Dicks influence in the lives of his children extended far beyond the serious; his impish demeanor as a boy remained intact as a man. This trait shone through as he opened his heart and home to so many of Kris and Scotts friends throughout the years. In this way, he had a profound effect on all who entered there; he was generous with his time, his stories, his counsel. He routinely carted carloads of kids wherever they wished to go, music blaring in his wake. He taught them to play cards, and then promptly beat them at the game to remind them why hed been nicknamed Hoyle. He played them at pool and won of course, but then refused their money. He listened to their tales of foolery, and then one-upped them with his. He treated many of them as his own and followed their lives, their trials and their successes long after they last crossed his threshold. In 1991, Dicks independent spirit manifested in the establishment of Fox Cities Crane & Fab., Inc. From humble beginnings, this business flourished under his direction, with his reputation for innovation, honesty and integrity as the cornerstone of its success. Dick forged and cultivated strong professional relationships, earning the respect of those with and for whom he worked. In more than 25 years of operation, Dick never wavered in his business ideals, nor did he lose sight of his most important asset; his staff. The men and women who worked alongside Dick for so many years were, in his view, the key to longevity and achievement in his industry. He cared for them as family, and they reciprocated that sentiment, always doing their very best, in no small part in an effort to make him proud. He was grateful for their contribution, as well as their friendship. Because his business, affectionately referred to as his true love, gave him such joy and pride, he invited his children to share in his efforts in the hopes that they would perpetuate his legacy for many years to come. Having the benefit of the very best of teachers, his children are honored to carry that legacy forward, always keeping the lessons he taught them at the forefront. Dicks life was blessed in so many ways, by those he loved and those who loved him in return. He shared his time and his heart with his long-time partner Ann (DiCastri), with whom he made so many memories. And through Ann, he was graced with the opportunity to know and love her family, including her sons Mike and Frank and their wives Maggie and Iva. Anns grandchildren became something of his own, each of whom brought a new dimension and unending joy to Dicks days. These were among the most treasured bonds of his life. Dicks spirit will live on in the many lives of those he touched. He is survived by his adoring daughter Kristen, her husband Bill Jabas, his devoted son Scott and his partner Mathilda (Park), his partner Ann (DiCastri) and her family, his brothers James and Donald, his sisters Kathleen (Michael) Quirk, continued...
