Obituary: Marvin Raymond Klingele, 77, formerly of Wapato, Washington, was surrounded by family and friends when he passed away at Highgate Senior Living , 12, 2015, after an extended struggle with Alzheimers.

Marvin was born 7, 1938, in Yakima, Washington, to Vincent and Leah (St. George) Klingele. He grew up in Yakima along with his two brothers, Ron and Jerry. The three of them worked hard from a young age to help the family. Marvin had paper routes, worked at a Spud nut shop making donuts and breakfasts, and in stores as a box boy, stocker, and cashier. During his younger years he also sometimes worked in his Uncle Jims orchard. This planted the dream Marvin had of farming his own land. Marvin graduated from Yakima High School. He married Barbara Jean Hawkins on 12, 1956. Together they raised a family of five children: Debra, William, Christopher, Shawn and Tyler. During this time Marvin began driving truck for Associated Grocers, delivering groceries to stores from Yakima to Walla Walla. This career was to last 44 years until his retirement in 2004. Marvin moved the family to a farm in the west Wapato area in 1974 after building their home with the help of his good friends, Max Gabbard, Dave Stahl and his family. On this acreage Marvin was able to fulfill his dream of farming by growing apricots, pears, and apples. He enjoyed working with his family in the orchards doing pruning, picking and all the other tasks associated with farming. Marvin spent many years driving truck in the early morning hours to late afternoon only to return home to work late in the evenings in his orchards. He was always enthusiastic about the coming crops and enjoyed having Barbara and the kids involved in the orchard work. A man of many talents, he was good at carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing, concrete finishing, and of course, farm equipment repair. Marvin was most content while working hard. He instilled a strong work ethic into his children, teaching them to work hard at anything they tried to do.

Whenever Marvins children could drag him off the farm, he enjoyed going camping, waterskiing, snow skiing, and snowmobiling. As a young man he was taught to fly by Charlie McAllister, who signed Marvins pilot license. Later on he purchased his own plane and passed the flying bug onto his sons, Chris and Shawn. Recently two of his grandchildren, Beth and Jared Klingele, continued the love of flying by earning their licenses. He also liked to challenge his sons and grandkids to running foot races - positive that even though he was much older, he could still give them a run for their money!

Marvin was a giving man, always ready to offer help to anyone who was in need of it, often giving up what little time or sleep he allowed himself. Although he was a strong man, the deaths of his sons - Tyler in 2003, and Bill in 2005 - seemed to be more than he could withstand. A few years after those loses, Marvin began to develop signs of dementia and Alzheimers. Even as the disease progressed you could tell he cherished the time he spent with his family and would light up whenever they were around. In 2013, Marvin moved into Highgate Senior Living where he could receive the safety and care that he required.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Klingele of Yakima; his children: Debbie (Marvin) Stamper, of Yakima, Chris (Ann) Klingele, of Wapato, and Shawn (Jackie) Klingele, of Wapato; his grandchildren: Megan (Mike) Swenson, Ben (Summer) Stamper, Nick (Nora) Stamper, Amanda Stamper, Chere Klingele, Beth Klingele, Jared Klingele, Katie Klingele, Justin Klingele, and Caitlin Klingele; and 7 great grandchildren (one of which was born the day before Marvin died). He is also survived by his two brothers, Jerry Klingele, of Yakima, and Ron Klingele, of Prosser, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marvin was preceded in death by his sons, Bill and Tyler; and his parents, Vincent and Leah Klingele.

The family would like to thank the staff at Highgate Senior living for all their hard work and care they gave to Marvin during his time there. would also like to thank the nurses from Yakima Regional and Hospice for their care and concern during the end of Marvins life.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., , 19, 2015 at Langevin El Paraiso . A funeral service will also be held at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m., , 20, 2015. Interment will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. To share a memory of Marvin, please visit www.lepfuneralhome.com.

Obituary: Barbara Jean (Hawkins) Klingele, formerly of Wapato, Washington, passed away , May 1, 2017, at Cottage in the Meadow.

Barbara was born 31, 1940, in Yakima, Washington, to Lawson H. Hawkins and Leona B. (Clifford) Hawkins. She grew up in Yakima with her 3 sisters: Loretta, Shirley, and Nina. When Barbara was 5, she broke her lower back and was in Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle for six months. She had to wear a steel back brace for a year, but thankfully all went well with her recovery.

Barbara attended school at Barge-Lincoln, Washington, and Yakima High School.

When Barbara was in her young pre-teen years, she attended a neighborhood bible study. She enjoyed that, and felt it helped her in her faith all during her life.

In 1954, Barbara met Marvin Klingele, whose uncle lived close to her family. On 12, 1956, Marvin and Barbara were married. were married for 58 years before Marvins death in 2015. Together Barbara and Marvin raised a family of five children: Debbie, Bill, Chris, Shawn, and Tyler.

The family moved from their home on Cornell Avenue to the Wapato area in 1974. Barbara was a hard worker and helped Marvin fulfill his dream to farm. As they were building their house, she even helped with the roofing - although she drew the line at roofing in the dark with lights aimed at the roof! grew apricots, pears and apples in their orchards, with Barbara picking fruit, running crews of pickers (often kids and cousins), and doing the bookkeeping. Barbara also spent many years working in the cannery at Del Monte.

Barbara had many talents. One of those was that of being a great cook. On a moments notice she could whip up a pot of soup or make a sandwich out of most anything. She made many tasty sandwiches for Marvins lunchbox over the years and also for her children and their friends. Barbara was well known for cooking too much food for get-togethers, but everyone loved her cooking! She enjoyed the holidays when her home overflowed with family. She was also a wonderful artist and her grandkids loved spending time drawing pictures with her. When a grandchilds drawing was uined because of an unintended mark, Barbara would look at it and come up with a way to disguise the flaw and make a beautiful picture out of it.

Barbara loved her children. She helped Bill and Debbie attend Boy Scout and Campfire meetings and do projects. She taught Debbie to sew and enjoyed decorating the house with her. Chris and Shawn were also taught how to use a sewing machine in order to recover car and boat seats. And, of course, she taught them to cook!

In of 1989, Barbara and her son, Tyler, went to England to visit her daughter, Debbie, and her family. stayed for a few months, living in a village in Northampton. She enjoyed visiting London, Yorkshire, and many other sites while there. During the time that Debbie was overseas, she and Barbara would write many letters to each other.

Barbara and Marvin moved from their home to Highgate Senior Living in 2013 so that Marvin could receive care for Alzheimers. Barb enjoyed participating in the various activities provided there. Shortly after moving to Highgate, she drew a picture that was used as their Christmas card that year.

Barbara is survived by her children: Debbie (Marvin) Stamper of Yakima, Chris (Ann) Klingele of Wapato, Shawn (Jackie) Klingele of Wapato; her grandchildren: Megan (Mike) Swenson, Ben (Summer) Stamper, Nick (Nora) Stamper, Amanda (Richard) Parker, Chere (Jose Meza) Klingele, Beth Klingele, Jared Klingele, Katie Klingele, Justin Klingele, and Caitlin Klingele; and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her 2 sisters: Shirley (Norm) England of Yakima, and Nina (Dean) Gottschalk of Selah, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sons Bill and Tyler; her parents, Lawson and Leona Hawkins; and her sister and brother-in-law Loretta (Richard) Underwood; and nephews Roger Underwood and Robert Underwood.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cottage in the Meadow for the extraordinary care they showed Barbara and her family during the brief time she was there. Thank you also to the staff at Highgate who made her time there enjoyable, especially Angie and Mike.

There will be a visitation at 4:00-8:00 p.m. , May 12, 2017 at Keith and Keith with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Service will be at 9:00 a.m. , May 13, 2017, at Keith and Keith followed by a Graveside Service at 11:00 a.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A reception will follow the services.
